I had it twice when I was younger. It sucks pretty bad, but I don't think it's highly contagious because I still went to school when I had it and only 1 other kid in my class had it. I remember I had to stay out of the sun and was extremely exhausted all the time.
I had it as a kid. It knocked my brothers and me on our asses for about a week. I think we were like 10, 8 and 6. If I remember it was a rash and a fever and flu like symptoms. I don't remember throwing up or anything.
My parents were exposed obviously but it never affected them. My sister who was an infant at the time also did not get it.
I work in a school, so I've been exposed while pregnant before, but haven't contracted it. My understanding (from my doctor when I called) is that it's generally not a problem, particularly in the later part of pregnancy and the rare issues that occur are usually related to exposure in the first tri. Quite a few people are immune anyway because they had it as children and just were never officially diagnosed so there's a decent chance you already have immunity. It scared me in my first pregnancy but ended up not being a huge issue. Considering how much I get exposed to as kids sneeze, cough, spit, bite and touch me all day with their (unwashed) little hands, it's a wonder that I'm not either dead or immune to everything on earth but so far, nothing has affected my pregnancies specifically.
I work with kids too and they post it when there is a case so anyone pregnant can get tested. It happened once since I've been pregnant..the doctor will just do a blood test and tell you if you have it or if you have in the past. It's good if you have in the past bc then you are immune. I didn't have it but I'm not immune..so I try to keep my distance from kids who seem sick and use a tone of Hand sanitizer
