TTC After a Loss

Yoga During TWW?

I'm wondering if I should continue doing yoga during my TTW? My doctor seems to think it's fine and I love yoga...but I'm also concerned about implantation issues. I do a really intensive form of yoga that includes like 40 push-ups and hour and a lot of sweating and high heart rates. Am I being too paranoid about my concerns? I just really want to do what's best. Any advice?

Re: Yoga During TWW?

  • I would do anything you have been doing. Just don't start anything new. If you're body is use to it I believe it is fine. I was doing HIIT training and running prior to finding out I was expecting. Maybe just dial it down a notch if you're paranoid and make sure you drink lots and lots of water.

  • @MooFish2364 I agree with @crazypt2285 - as long as your practice isn't new, then keep it up. I practice Baptiste (power) yoga and did until my BFP. I made the personal decision to take time off after that simply because of my history, but I still suffered another loss. I had planned to start practicing again after I made it through first tri, but I likely would have modified my practice somewhat - I am not sure if I would have kept up the hot practice.

  • I would stay away from hot yoga but agree with pps that you can typically continue what you've been doing. I would keep an eye on your heart rate and body temp and just listen to your body.

  • I see your concern. Be extra in tune with your body and just take it a little bit easier. I try and keep in mind that if I act pregnant for half the month every month, I waste too much time.
  • Hot yoga? If so, no, I don't practice during 2ww. Hot yoga is basically bringing on a temporary fever intentionally, which has so many great perks for the body and detoxing. But I avoid purposely raising my body temp during first tri. Same with sauna, etc.

anecdotal, obviously, but during both my loss pregnancies I had continued to exercise intensely, including hot yoga, during TWW. I will always wonder if that was why I went on to lose those pregnancies. Likely not, but who knows and not a risk I'll take again.

  • @crazypt2285 & @fivetimesnoluckI have been doing yoga a few times a week for jus over 2 years...I'm probably just worrying too much.

@brooklyngirl18 I will stay away from hot yoga. I don't know how people to that! I get too hot in regular yoga and I'm in pretty good shape!

@ThePax89 This is exactly how I feel. I have wasted so much time wishing and hoping I'm pregnant when I wasn't. I'm going to continue making healthy choices but I'm not going to stop living my life.

The he hard thing with my yoga classes is that I take them at work. So I can't tell my yoga instructor that I'm TTC...which means she can't tell me what to avoid. To make matters worse a lot of faculty go to her class and we all know each other's levels. I know that people will start to figure everything out. Especially since I missed time during my mc and after my d&c. I tried to tell everyone I was just really busy at work!

  • If you are worried about people figuring it out, could you feign a mild injury and use that to explain why you are not going full force of you are questioned?

  • @MWoodside that's a good idea. I know my teacher wouldn't ask but others might.

  • Don't have advice on the yoga part, but another anecdotal thing for you. I worked out intensely while pregnant with my first loss. Then I basically stopped working out when I became pregnant again and also lost that pregnancy. So, next time, as long as I feel up to it, I will be continuing my exercise routine as I don't think that had anything to do with my losses and I am better off being as healthy as possible.

Good luck during this wait! I hope there is a BFP for you this cycle!
