GTKY:   Most embarrassing work out moment?

Re: Fit Mom Check-In 3/28

  • How have workouts been going?
Good.  We ran a 5k Saturday night and it wasn't super fast or anything but we ran the whole thing and it felt great!  We run a 10k next Sunday and I'm kinda nervous, but excited too.  I haven't ran further than 5 miles yet, and that was only once.  Between crazy allergies the past week, busy schedule, and the kiddo its hard to get long-ish runs in.

How has diet been?/What are you eating these days?
Eh.  Some days are great, others are really bad (see Easter as an example!).  I try to make sure I have a green smoothie every day with so much spinach in it that its ridiculous.  I made a bunch of freezer meals that I can just pop in the microwave so weekday dinners have been pretty healthy lately.  We've ate chicken a lot, with some sort of veggie usually sweet potatoes, squash, broccoli, etc.  Pretty boring diet but that's fine by me!

    Modifications?
    Just running slower.

    Questions?
Anyone have great toddler recipe ideas to get my DD to eat more veggies?  (I try to hide spinach or some sort of veggie in everything! Which is also for her dad...  And lets be honest, me.)

GTKY:   Most embarrassing work out moment?
Barfing after my first 5k.  In front of my then boyfriend (now husband...)  Or falling while running any number of times... I'm very graceful.

  • How have workouts been going?  Now that nausea is gone, great!  Back to 4 days a week of workouts, two days of weighted moves, a serious cardio workout and then prenatal yoga.  Sometimes it is 5 days.  Plus, now that it is getting somewhat nicer we are walking outside as a family more, but my husband is slow.  And he is a foot taller than I am.

How has diet been?/What are you eating these days?  Diet is alright.  Working on getting veggies back in the meals.  So much of the first tri was just finding something to eat, and it was usually pasta.

Modifications?  My trainer put burpees and hand release push ups in my workouts this month.  I can't go all the way to the ground on my stomach.  :)

Questions?  @texasmomma2014 I haven't tried this cookbook yet, but someone recommended it to me Deceptively Delicious by Jessica Seinfeld.  I've been considering it a win that lately he will take the pouches of pureed apples with carrots mixed in.  I know he eats veggies at day care, don't understand why he won't do it at home!

GTKY:   Most embarrassing work out moment?   I can't think of anything specific, but definitely have tripped while running outside often!

  • How have workouts been going? Pretty good. Still finding that if I don't go in the mornings to a class than it most likely won't happen. I try to do 2 pilates classes a week, 1 HIIT, and 2 days of running. I've been giving myself 2 days off each week. In non-pregnant life, I take 1 rest day.

How has diet been?/What are you eating these days? Diet has been ok. The Easter candy needs to make its exit from my home, but our meals are usually healthy. We typically eat out for dinner one night a week and the rest are meals I cook. I can definitely do better on my carb intake though.. that is still too high.

Modifications? I'm not running much more than 4 or 5 miles, mainly because I need to pee every 40 minutes or so (and I cannot pop a squat, pee everywhere). Other than that my other workouts are the same.

Questions? @texasmama2014 I really don't have much advice on the veggie deal. My DD will drink smoothies, so I make her a green smoothie if she is having a bad veggie day. She also still will eat the pouches that have veggies mixed in. I just tell her they are yogurt. She also loves raw veggies if I let her dip them, so i will give a tiny bit of ranch or pesto for her to use.

GTKY:   Most embarrassing work out moment? I fell off a treadmill at the gym in college b/c I was watching television and was laughing too hard. I was super embarrassed.

  • @LWC1112 She loves smoothies so that saves her in my mind most days.  I offer veggies first then what she likes to eat after.  She loves ketchup so if its something she can dunk then she's all for it.  Raw veggies aren't really her thing but I might try ranch.  I recently discovered the "greek yogurt ranch" and it is so good!!!

Love greek yogurt ranch! I also make my pesto, so it has a bunch of spinach in it. If she is drinking smoothies, I think your good.

  • thanks for starting this up again!! It is really motivating.

How have workouts been going? Better than they were, but still not great. I have the intention of going  to the gym 4 days a week but lately it's been 2- either because of work and I don't want to go in the evening, or because I'm too tired in the morning. But, when I do go it's not bad! Just weight lifting but I want to add in some cardio now.

How has diet been?/What are you eating these days? I'm working on it, I had major aversions to protein and veggies in the first tri and I'm still having some aversions but I'm working on making healthier choices again.

Modifications? No exercises on my back per OB. Also squats with the bar on my back feel weird, so I've switched to dumbbell squats.

Questions? Any suggestions for getting protein and veggies in?

GTKY:   Most embarrassing work out moment? Hmmm I can't think of anything too embossing, once I was doing box jumps and fell and skinned my leg and that was embarrassing lol
  • How have workouts been going?
I have definitely lowered my intensity while working out.  I take the dog on a jog every day (plus 4 additional walks), I take yoga breaks throughout the day to stretch and get some energy and I will go to the gym with DH each night where we walk a mile on the track, lift and then stretch.

    Diet?
im trying very hard to eat as whole/healthy as possible.  Staying away from white carbs and processed sugar.  I definitely have a sweet tooth though and need a treat after dinner but will go for fruit or some sugar free chocolate pudding (with strawberries, yumm!) I also make a protein shake (banana, pb, choc protein powder) for breakfast.

    Questions?
Do you ladies eat any special food to help with babies development?  My mom insists I eat almonds every day and I was curious if you guys had any other must eat foods

    embarrassing workout moments?
one word - Zumba .. Never again!! Lol
  • @squishy0511 putting spinach/kale in a smoothie. Adding cheese to veggies to make them more palatable...
  • How have workouts been going? Not bad! Definitely noticing I get out of breath much easier every week.

How has diet been?/What are you eating these days? Diet is meh. It's always been so hard for me. I'm a decently picky eater, so a lot of "healthy" swaps that involve yogurt, eggs, hummus, etc. just won't work. I try to eat really healthy 80% of the time and then I try not to let myself feel bad about the other 20%.

Modifications? Running slower and not any further than 5-6 miles at a time. More walk breaks. I've slowed down at CrossFit, have stopped doing some exercises (replacing full burpees with squat thruster burpees), and have backed off on the weight a little bit.

    Questions?

GTKY:   Most embarrassing work out moment? I know I've farted during exercise classes. It just happens. And once I was running in the spring so there was still some ice on the ground and totally wiped out. My dog just stared at me like "WTF is wrong with you?"

  • @lalalorelai haha - my hubby says people should be able to freely fart at the gym without judgement.
  • @Mrsrundell last pregnancy I ate every vegetable imaginable. I wanted to see if it would help my kid not be a picky eater. I try to eat lots of veggies this time but I'm not as neurotic about it.(DD is picky about veggies...)
  • How have workouts been going? Going great, still going to Barre classes 3-4 times a week (60 min)

How has diet been?/What are you eating these days? Diet is going ok, some days are better than others. I try and eat as many fruits and veggies as possible but my sweet tooth is really fierce these days  I try my best with it.

Modifications? None at this point, at 20 weeks I need to start modifying ab work but that's it

Questions? Today I was experiencing some RLP on my right side during a particular move in class today, it went away when I eased up a bit, has anyone else experienced any RLP while working out?

GTKY:   Most embarrassing work out moment? I was running and ate it hard going up a curb, went down like a ton of bricks. Thankfully my friend was with me to ask if I was ok but we were both laughing so hard we couldn't speak clearly lol!

  • How have workouts been going? Alright. Still doing combinations of yoga, Pilates, and walking. I'm starting an actual prenatal yoga class next week that I'm excited for.

How has diet been?/What are you eating these days? These twins make me eat every 1.5-2 hours so I pretty much eat whatever I have available. I am finally gaining some weight here in the 2nd trimester.

Modifications? Basically I was working out very hardcore before finding out I was pregnant and then found out it was twins, so I've modified by doing Pilates and yoga regularly instead of other workouts.

    Questions?

GTKY:   Most embarrassing work out moment? I can't think of just one but I've had some farting moments also. :)

  • How have workouts been going?
Good. Still going to barre twice a week. I had just started going right before getting pregnant, so I don't have much to compare it to, but I am seeing results. Even though I'm gaining weight and getting thicker around the middle, my arms and legs look more toned than they've been in a while, which makes me happy. I can't wait to see what results will look like postpartum, and that's motivating!

How has diet been?/What are you eating these days?
Diet is pretty good, though I've been craving sour candy and giving in. We make smoothies almost every morning and dinners are almost always healthy. DH is on a big fitness kick lately which helps big time.

    Modifications?
Definitey modifying ab workouts. I'm wondering if there will reach a point where I have to sit out that part of class altogether or just do my own thing. My abs just don't work well all of a sudden!!

    Questions?
Anyone notice a pulsing or throbbing in their ute area while working out? I notice when I bend over or do child's pose during barre. I'm guessing it's just blood flowing harder when my heart rate is up, but it feels weird.

GTKY:   Most embarrassing work out moment?
Years ago I tried hot yoga and quickly learned it was not for me when I had to run out to barf in the middle of class. Since then I've stuck with regular temp or "warm" yoga.

  • @bananers I can always "feel" my uterus better when I'm working out/just finished. It seems tighter and more pronounced.
