Waiting for AF after D&C 4 weeks ago -Cramping- Help!

Hi Everyone,

I had my D&C on Feb 29, so today makes it 4 weeks since I had the procedure. I have some pretty intense cramps, my boobs are a little sore (not like pregnancy sore, just standard sore), but I have no period (blood). I've heard that the first AF after D&C is really painful, so I'm scared and anticipating the worst. Can anyone tell me what theirs was like after the D&C and how long after it came? I don't know if this cramping is going to last for awhile until I bleed? My periods before my pregnancy were on schedule, and once I had cramps, I was bleeding.

Ugh...I hate waiting and not knowing what to expect!! Any advise/experience is appreciated.

I got my first AF 4 weeks after D&C and the week up to a couple of days before I was miserable. I had terrible cramps leading into it. the worst that I'd ever had. In fact I had such terrible cramps I went to my RE.. After some tests we found out a cyst had ruptured so we thought maybe I had ovulated. Four days later I got AF and my blood test confirmed that my progesterone and E2 had dropped so consistent with AF. The first couple of days were really rough and the bleeding was bad but it tapered off to a more tolerable bleed and I bled for about 5-6 days. The one thing my RE told me was that bleeding/cycles after D&C and miscarriage are very unpredicatble so each woman's experience will be different, but it sounds like your body is gearing up for it.

I'm not going to lie, my first AF after D&C was not the usual experience, so I wouldn't go based on my experience.

Exactly 4 weeks after the procedure I started feeling pretty intense cramping, but not bleeding. 3 days later, I felt pain and pressure near my cervix and rectum. I finally went in when the pain got to be too much. The doctor discovered my cervix was closed and inflamed and sent me for an ultrasound. The ultrasound showed trapped blood and the doctor thought that maybe their was tissue left holding it back. I made an appt to come in and have it poked out. That night, the blood finally poured out basically all at once. It was bright red. The next month I thought the same thing was going I happen because I was also having intense cramping and delayed AF. I ended up having super intense AF, but it was filled with clots. I finally felt like things were normal.

I got pregnant that cycle, but I'm waiting to MC again naturally. Honestly, I know they say you can try again after 1-2 cycles, but I wish I would've waited longer. I just don't think my lining was ok. I'm very concerned that the trapped blood from the first AF has caused endometriosis or that I have scarring from my D&C. I'm going in for an HSG after I miscarry and get my first AF.

Thanks ladies @roxgibbons and @chloe97. Im sorry both of you had to go through that. Both of those experiences sound really painful...as if having a miscarriage isn't hard enough.

Still cramping but no blood. I'll just have to wait and see.

Hi there. I may be an odd ball but my first AF came "on time" based on if D&C was last period, and was completely normal for me. However, the immediate post-D&C is the awful part for me. (TMI warning)...gas pains and bowel movements make me feel like I'm being stuck with a hot poker in my pelvis as they move through my rectum. It's been like this with both D&Cs. It seems my awfulness happens right away. From what I've seen here, anything goes the first few cycles after MC.

No experience to share since I had an ectopic so no D&C but very sorry you are going through this. I think it's so unfair that we have to go through all the physical he&& along with the emotional pain. And that it drags on for weeks and months just adds insult to injury. I hope your period comes soon and isn't too awful. Hang in there.

I got my first AF about 5 weeks after my d&c. I usually have really severe cramps with AF but had mild (for me) cramps when my AF first started. I did have a lot of bleeding. I mean a lot. I'm pretty light usually with AF lasting about 3 days with maybe 1 day of spotting. I had really heavy bleeding for about 4 days. I was concerned and almost called the doc a few times but decided to wait it out. Other than that it wasn't too bad. Hopefully things will start moving along for you.

I just got mine 34 days out from D&C. I also cramped on/off a week prior and had usual pms symptoms. I am bleeding a lot heavier than usual but I think I expected that. Cramps are pretty light now also. What I didn't expect is the amount of bloating I have. I swear I look 5 months right now. Nothing is fitting me and I have to wear dresses to work and it is cold out! It makes me sad to see myself like this because it is how I should be looking but with a baby inside me. Try not to stress too much, it'll come.

Im so anxious. Still no bleeding and plenty of cramping. I feel you on the bloating @crazypt2285. I can't even suck in, it hurts so bad!

This is brutal, I cried on my way into work this morning. It's so frustrating, I feel like this is the last step to getting back to normal and I'm just waiting and being reminded every time I cramp. Ugh.

@rkroupa hugs. I also have not gotten my first period post loss, and while I would like to get it and move on, physically, I am really anxious about what it will be like.
