Alright. Girls who are or have taken Clomid can you summarize your experiences? Did it make you nuts? Sick?
DH and I had a long talk last night and today, and I think we're going to go ahead and try it per the dr.'s suggestion.
I just really want to know what I am getting myself into.
Thanks ![]()
Sorry to be a bit of a pain in the arse with this. Yesterday just really knocked the wind out of me.
Re: Clomid questions
The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new.
I was wondering the same thing.
Yeah if you stalk my posts from yesterday you'll see the whole story. I am going to go into early menopause...plus I have Grave's Disease. There is about a zero chance I can conceive without it.
Here is the link to my post from yesterday.

I don't know what that is, (I might google it later). So do you not ovulate?
doctor doctor, give me the news I've got a bad case of hating you.
You may remember on Saturday I mentioned the dr. wanted me to come back in today to discuss some bloodwork, because apparently she couldn't just tell me bad news over the phone.
I hate that TTC-ing for us has gotten off on the wrong foot completely.
Her news?
She thinks I need to go on Clomid right away...not even give it a few cycles of just good old fashioned knocking boots.
Apparently I am already showing signs of "early menopause." I can't remember the name of the disease or whatever thehell it is.
At 24. I'm not even 25 yet [a few more weeks]. Talk about causing a fuckingquarterlife crisis.
Sweetfuckingdeal.
I'm not in a good mood...at all.
Clomid scares the bejeezus out of me. DH and I are going to have to have a long talk this weekend.
I kind of want to cry. Fuckthis workingshit.
I'm very sorry to see this, but at age 24, I would definitely get a second opinion.
One of the complications of Graves is annovulation [did I spell that right?] depending what phase you are in. Unfortunately for me I am pretty affected by it.
I have never had a period in my life, but I do ovulate every so often...just not regularly at all.
Sadly one of the other complications can be early onset menopause. Worst part is I am only 24 so it is coming REALLY early...supposedly. I would love for my dr. to be wrong in this case.
Yeah. I am going to call another doc on Monday. I just want to be as educated as possible going into that appointment.
Preppy- sorry to hear about your recent bad news. I wish you the best of luck in your TTC journey.
To answer your Clomid question- I started last month, 50 mg days 5-9. Finished my last pill for cycle 2 last Wednesday. Honestly, I have not noticed any major side-effects from it. A hot-flash or two at most. However, I know some people have much different experiences with it.
I am also on Metformin and Synthroid, for my Hashimoto's Thyroid Disease. I would encourage you to at least give it a try to see how you respond to it.
Good luck!
Good luck.
And - mood swings, hot flashes, abdominal cramping and headaches were the side effects the one cycle I tried it.
what is your FSH level? I am sure your doc must have checked that. It shows how hard your ovaries have to work to stimilulate the follies.

Ashley - you do know that clomid "works" if you ovulated right? Just because you didn't get pg your second time doesn't mean that it didn't work.
What does that mean?
I did 3 cycles on days 5-9 (first with 100mg and the other two with 50mg) plus a cycle days 4-8 on 50mg followed by injectables. On the 100mg I had major hot flashes, mild nausea, and a few mood swings. None of that on the 50mg cycles. Every cycle I could feel ovulation and the corpus luteum cysts that stuck around afterward, but it wasn't awful pain just a little uncomfortable. The cycle that I did the inject combo I got OHSS which sucked. But that was more from the injects than the Clomid.
Good luck with whatever route you decide to take!
You know she did, but by the time she shared that info I was pretty upset and missed what she said. I do remember she said my numbers weren't good. I am going to call her for a copy of the bloodwork results on Monday...then google thehell out of the results.
I'm guessing that means that her progesterone levels were low. Not a strong ovulation. But I could be wrong.
I took Clomid days 3-7 at 50mg. I had hot flashes and night sweats the week after I finished the pack. I did notice more headaches while on it, but not severe.
Yes it helps you ovulate, but your first post said it worked for you on the 1st cycle, but not on the 2nd, cause you got your period.
Yes, you can get your period and not ovulate. But just because you had your period, doesn't mean that you didn't get pregnant because you didn't ovulate.
The only eay to know if you ovulate is to chart or get a progesterone test.
Have you read Taking Charge of Your Fertility? Do you chart?

I am on my 4th cycle with Clomid.
First cycle was 50mg on cd 5-9 - AO, progesterone 1.1
s/e's were mild hot flashes
Second cycle was 100 mg on cd 3-7 - I O'd on cd 14, progeserone 30.7 BFN
s/e's that time were much more severe. I had terrible mood swings and hot flashes all day long for the entire cycle.
Third cycle was 100 mg on cd 3-7-I am pretty sure I O'd on cd 16 but was ill on CD21 so I didn't get my bloodwork. BFN
s/e's were same as 2nd cycle
This cycle it is again 100mg on cd 3-7. I am only on cd 9 now so I am waiting to ovulate.
s/e's aren't as bad yet. I have only had a few hotflashes.
Good Luck! HTH
I just joined this website to see if I could find other couples going through our issues.....
We were just prescribed Clomid for the first time last Wednesday (1/7) I was on Day 3 of my cycle and I began taking it that day and for the next 5 days. I am taking 100mg... (1-50mg pill 2x per day). I have experienced slight headaches and some nausea as a side effect. I am scheduled for a follical ultrasound on 1/15 and hopefully be doing an IUI not soon long after that. The doctor wants me to start tracking my LH levels on the 1/15...
We have been trying for almost 2 years to get pregnant with no success and have done all the testing and everything is coming back "normal" whatever normal means these days.
Thanks for all your help
You are all making me feel slightly less apprehensive.
I'll let you know what we end up deciding to do!
I took it for two cycles. The first cycle I was overstimmed and my IUI/cycle was cancelled. That sucked balls. Clomid was hard on me as I had every side effect in the book; hot flashes, moodiness, headaches, nausea, cramps, and vision flashes.Clomid did not help me get pregnant.
Also be aware that clomid is not something you can keep taking. It can thin your lining making it impossible to get pregnant. This is why most REs will limit a woman to three cycles on clomid. I can't speak for OBGYNs because they seem to hand clomid out like candy.
Just to give you some info that may make you feel better:
My mother never had a period in her life, had a wedge sample taken from her ovaries which said she had no eggs, was diagnosed with infantile uterus.... AND got pg TWICE (at age 30 and 33)... without any medical intervention (both were ooops pregnancies b/c she was told she was IF).... so there is hope for everyone!
