Woud you change your EDD?

I went for my first u/s, and the average of the measurements was 7w5d. By LMP I'm 7w3d, but either would make sense based on when we did the damn thing.

I know it doesn't matter because 1) it's 2 days and 2) stuff's always wrong. DD1 measured exactly on the nose for my LMP, so I never considered this last time.

What say you, N16?

  • My babies are off by 2 & 3 days from my last ultrasound...I haven't adjusted yet but I'm going for an official dating scan on Monday and I'll probably use that one. Although none of it matters since there's two in there and I highly doubt I'll make it past 37 weeks anyways!
My sister had twins and she had like 4 due dates - the 40 weeks due date, the "we hope for" due date, the "your c section will probably be" due date, haha

  • My doctor won't change a due date unless your ultrasound is off your EDD by over a week.

My daughter was 3 weeks early so I'm pretty much just setting my due date as "probably November".

  • DS1 was 2 days late. DS2 was 16 days overdue. I don't care when they "say" this kid is due. It will be late. Which I don't understand because we are a military family, we are never late. I probably wouldn't change it. But that's just me.
  • The early ultrasounds are supposed to be very accurate.  If you don't know when you ovulated, I'd probably go with the ultrasound.  But if the doctor chose the LMP and it was later, I'd be happy with that.  My babies always come about a week late, and I wouldn't want anyone pushing me into induction early.

I probably wouldn't change it if it's only a 2 day difference unless you have something against one of the EDD's lol.  For instance, my current EDD is my Xs Bday so if my dating ultrasound suggest a different day I may go with it ;-)

DD was 13 days early so in the end its gonna be what it's going to be.  It's rare they actually come on the EDD though that did happen to my cousin but she's literally the only person I know that happened with.

  • My doctor doesnt like to change due dates if im confident on my LMP. I probably would not change it for 2 days but Id probably give my boss the new date to leave early  ;)

  • Also, I like 11/5 better than 11/7 because it increases my odds of voting on 11/8, hahaha.

I mean it's all total BS anyway.

  • I just changed mine today based on the ultrasound I had this morning. Granted, it was only one day off and I feel super lame now.... I guess my thought process was to have the one my Dr is using as the one I tell people/base my own things on. Not that it even matters, because it could change later on.

  • In the end your doc will choose it, not you, unless you want to argue.

  • I mean, getting out of work 2 days earlier is completely legit.
    DS  12-1-2014
    DD 10-29-2016
    #3 due 10-13-2018
  • I did IVF so they know exactly when it happened :-) I was using that to guess when I started downloading the baby apps. They adjusted it two days based on the measurement at the ultrasound. I just updated the app and now I advance to a new week on Saturdays :-)
  •  July 16 was the math. Then he measured huge at 7 weeks so they bumped me to July 12. The early dating scans are the most accurate.

I ended up being induced July 23, so...it's all bullshit. After about 9 weeks, genetics kicks in. My son constantly measured 2 weeks ahead after that the rest off the time. My husband and I are both very tall. Makes sense.

I'm trying to find an actual source, but I'm pretty sure the margin of error on ultrasounds for dating, especially early, is at least a couple days (my brain supplied up to 5 at first).

So far I have this page saying that the dating can be off 5-7 days in early pregnancy.
    https://americanpregnancy.org/prenatal-testing/ultrasound/

I'll look for more, but I guess my point is that I wouldn't change it for just 2 days.  Unless you want to just continually change it every time there is fluctuation for whatever reason.

Edit: American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists also says 5-7 days if the ultrasound is performed by 13+6, with earlier being more likely to be more accurate.

  • I fudged my LMP by 3 days - told my OB 1/30 instead of 1/27. My reasoning is that I was charting and I know exactly when I O'd (CD21) and we only DTD one time during that timeframe (on O day). If I went by LMP, there would be a week discrepancy but I know my
OB loves the LMP date. Last pregnancy, I ended up getting induced at 41W, even though my body was
definitely prepping itself for the birth and I am sure if I had been given an extra day or two, I wouldn't have had to be induced.

    DD: 8/20/14; DS: 11/13/16; DD: 5/3/19; DD: 8/31/21; Baby #5 (team green) due 3/24/24

This is me as well. I gave my LMP as 2/20 instead of 2/17 because I know I Od slightly later than "normal" in my cycle and I want every last chance to avoid induction.

This is a good point. Thank you both for sharing. I feel like the day that FF gave me is off by possibly as many as 6 days. If that could make a difference whether or not I need an induction I think I might change my dates

  • I wouldn't change it if it's that little of a discrepancy.

My doc is having me come back in a week and half because based on my LMP I should've been 7w3d at my US appointment but measured in at 6w2d. So I get another US...if it matches the first US then the date will be for that...if it matches my LMP then they'll set the date accordingly. SO right now i'm somewhere between 11/6-11/14. I was induced at 38w5d with my first de to heart rate decals so I wouldn't be surprised if I ended up early lol...watch, i'll deliver on Halloween.

  • if its just for your ticker, Id say whatever you like is fine ;) if you are telling your work however Id use the date the Dr office gives you because they report it on the maternity leave paper work (I think) and I wouldn't want there to be some kind of discrepancy. That's just me.
  • S was due 5/20 originally but I wanted it moved up to 5/16 based on my first ultrasound. And then he was born 5/20...lol!

I'd see what happens at the next ultrasound to see how #2 is measuring.

I side eye any OB that insists on using LMP when the patient has a good idea of her actual ovulation date. I've had 3 pregnancies and ovulated on cycle day: 30, 19, and 23. Can you imagine if I'd used my LMP to date the pregnancy?

I actually just don't supply my LMP when they ask for it- I tell them my ovulation date based on charting. My OB has never had a problem with it (one reason why I love her).

I agree, LMP is so unreliable. My LMP was 12/12/15...definitely not going off that..

  • My cycles are all over the place so don't use my lmp. I had been using OPKs and temping and they showed different O dates. I went with the temp because it was later but my ultrasound showed that baby is measuring 4 days earlier than temping showed O. It's measuring when OPK showed O so I've adjusted my EDD to what the ultrasound measured at.

  • They generally only change your due date when there is a weeks difference +/- from your LMP. A day or two doesn't really make a difference.
  • If I went off my LMP I'd be 8 weeks along, but based on the fact that I didn't O til CD 30, I'm more like 6 weeks along so that's the date I am using now.  If at my u/s he says I am farther along I suppose I'd change my date accordingly, but I doubt that'd happen based on my Hcg levels from last week.

  •  Well, presently they think I am only 5 weeks along instead of the 8 on Wednesday that I believe I am. Since we practice natural family planning and I track my cycle very closely I'm not really willing to believe I'm 3 weeks off. So yeah, I'm not changing due date, not for a while anyway. I'd want them to look a couple more times and really decide I'm off.
