Food Allergy

Allergic to human milk protein?

Have any of you been told that your child might be allergic to your milk? Not something that you are eating but actually allergic to the human milk protein? I've been off dairy and soy for five weeks and nuts almost as long as I notice the diapers are full of blood when I eat nuts. Last weekend I tried to go on an elimination diet, but she got worse and broke out in a rash so I think that might have been due to the massive amounts of rice I was eating. I know two people with celiac disease who react to rice gluten so maybe thats a thing here? Anyway, based on everything I have found it seems way more likely that she is reacting to something I am eating than that she is allergic to my actual milk protein. Our doctor thinks only milk and soy cause issues and he more or less told me to expect to be told to stop breast feeding the 29th when we see the GI doctor, and to expect to go onto an amino acid formula. I just need some advice as I think that breast is best and I am looking for the support to help me get to the bottom of it.

  • Might need a naturopath to help.

I'd go with nutramigen or higher if they make you to stop the bleeding. It's not best when there are that severe of issues!

  • I had to eliminate dairy, soy, eggs, and nuts for DD2. Dairy and soy are the most common culprits for GI problems in babies, but they certainly can react to other things as well. I would try a different elimination diet, perhaps one that is grain-free? and see how that goes. Keeping a food diary might be helpful too. I hope the appt with the GI is helpful and that they want to help figure out the culprit.

  • In my opinion, you may also try eliminating eggs, wheat, corn, pork, fish and shellfishes, tomatoes, onions, cabbage, berries,  spices, citrus fruits , and chocolate for some time and see the result. Breastfeeding usually helps baby's body get immuned against allergies. However, you can follow your doctor's instructions.
