Strollers

My husband and I are looking at the City Select by Baby Jogger or the Ubbababy Vista. We want something that will grow with our family and that will eliminate the need for 2, 3 or 4 strollers for different outings.  I am a FTM.  Does anyone have suggestions or opinions? Thanks!

Re: Strollers

  • I have the britax b-ready, which I got for the same reasons - I liked that it was convertible to a double, and I liked the flexibility it has with respect to seat positions. Lucie's list has great stroller reviews and comparisons you could check out.
But, I'll add that all these strollers tend to be heavy and clunky. We eventually got an umbrella stroller for when she was older and wanted something light and easily moved around. And now that I'm having my second, I have doubts about the britax (it's going to be even heavier!!). My dream stroller is the maclaren twin techno, but it's expensive and I'm not sold yet.

  • If those were our two choices I would totally do the UppaBaby Vista.  We were considering the UppaBaby but ultimately went with the Graco Modes due to cost.

  • I'm a FTM so I haven't really used it yet but we got the Vista and I love it. I really wanted not to have to buy a second stroller when he have our next child.

The bassinet is approved for overnight sleeping which is a really great feature.

The stroller is sort of heavy- that's the one downside IMO.

I didn't really look into the City Select much but I know there is a significant difference in price which is something to consider.

  • I have the Uppababy Vista and I really like it.  The bucket seat itself is heavy (I think it's ~10-15 lbs without a baby in it) but I always felt that it was very safe in the car.  I thought that the release mechanisms were easy and convenient, but I did need to practice closing up the stroller a few times before the baby came, to get used to the motion.  I believe on the newer models, there are adapter clips to add a second seat later, but I have heard it's a tight fit for the bottom seat (but this may be true of all strollers, I don't know).

My only complaint about the Vista is the size of the wheels on the stroller, but since I don't really have any others to compare it to, perhaps this is a common complaint.  When I would go to various stores, a lot of them are not necessarily set up for the wideness of the stroller (I'm talking more about mall stores, not grocery stores, etc).  I felt like I was constantly bumping into things trying to maneuver it around.

I think any carseat/stroller system that just lets you move the bucket seat from the car to the stroller is a genius idea, that way when your infant falls asleep in the car you don't have to jostle them to get them out.
  • I was also deciding between these two for the same reasons, and ultimately decided on the vista. The reason was they're pretty similar but the second seat on the City select sits directly over the front wheels of the stroller, where the second seat of the vista is about 6 inches closer to you. This makes the vista a little shorter (and possibly the seats a little closer together), but also the difference in force needed to lift the front wheels of the stroller is incredible. The lady in the store put 2 fake babies in the city select for me, and I found it impossible to tip the front wheels up to go up a curb. With the Vista having the second seat just that bit closer made a huge difference.

Plus the bassinet is safe for overnight sleeping, which I love. :)
  • I originally wanted to get the UPPAbaby vista after lots of research and testing in the store. But we ultimately went with the bugaboo. Strollers are so pricey

We went with the Bugaboo Chameleon and I REALLY have loved it for the last 20 months. With a second kid coming, I am considering the City Select- because it can add a second seat that is in a line instead of side by side. I may just use the Bugaboo for DS1 and carry DS2 until the boys are a bit older and I see how often I wish I could strap both of them in.

The sidewalks in our town are too narrow to accommodate a double wide stroller.
  • Wow! I never even thought of that! Thanks!
  • I was trying to decide between those two strollers and ultimately have decided to go with the City Select because of the price. I was mainly looking at a used Vista or a new City Select and decided I liked the fact the seats can go both directions in the City Select but the rumble seat is fixed in the older model Vista (2015 model goes both directions). My friend has a vista and absolutely loves it but she said it's way to heavy with two kids in it to pop up on curves. Maybe this is different in the 2015 model.

  • We went with the 2015 Vista (arrives Friday!)

My neighbor has it for her kids (now 1 and 2.5yrs) and I love using it. It's very comfy for both of them and easy to maneuver through the apartment building or into restaurants. When the kids climb on it, the weight is actually a benefit as it doesn't tip over. We've also got the bassinet stand and will be using the bassinet as baby's first sleeper until the crib goes up in August. (The stand then turns into a sturdy hamper rack) Since we are planning a second baby a year after this one, it was a great choice for us due to familiarity, practicality, warranty, multi-function, and uppababy's customer service support.
  • I think the Uppababy is a great choice. We got the BOB Strides and honestly it's huge. I love it for running or doing anything that requires durability. But we had to get the Graco FastAction Travel System to go with it for everyday use.

  • I have a Bugaboo Chameleon for baby #1 (UppaBaby G-Luxe as a travel strolled) but just got a Britax B-Ready for the double stroller. Lucie's List highly recommended the Britax so I went with it. Haven't  taken it out of the box yet...

  • We played with EVERYTHING at buy buy baby over the weekend. Connected car seats and took everything on and off. The baby jogger was by FAR the easiest to break down and lightest. It also was much easier to maneuver. So that's what we are going to get! Super excited about it.
  • I bought a citi mini GT but haven't used it yet since I'm a FTM. We did assemble it and it's ready to go! I liked how easy it collapses and the three wheels instead of four. It seems like it's very maneuverable especially for a clumsy person like myself. I've heard one downside is the compartment underneath is not large enough once the kid is big enough to sit in the seat though. I have planned to get the adapter for a car seat.

I love my city mini gt...only bad part for me is that the wheels are pretty wide and it's an adjustment getting through spaces that are semi-tight. I haven't had any problems with storage underneath, I find it's easier to insert items in from the side than the back.
  • I currently bought the city select baby jogger and my husband and I love it. We bought it because we currently have a 1 year old girl and the boy is due now in June . So we needed a double stroller and one that its convertible from one to two easily. We have been using it with our baby girl and its perfect. I love how that if she wants to have a nap I can move it to go flat and she can sleep more comfortable compared to the other stroller that we had. The other stroller that we had did not fold backwards that far and she looked uncomfortable. The storage underneath is pretty big and perfect for us.

We had to buy a new car seat that is compatible with this stroller so we went for the maxi-cosi one.

Overall i recommend this stroller and if you are planning to have another baby even more.
  • We got the City Elite, it's just like the City GT but has a little bigger tires for better handling and the foot piece props up I like that they can lay down flat. We also were looking for a good deal since I lost my job. Right now buy buy baby has the Elite for $319 online. They are coming out with a new model will be in stores this month so they marked down the previous model. Also a girl who didn't know her crap told me we could use a 20% off coupon so we got it for less. Also if you order things from the store it will save you shipping costs and they still send it straight to the house.

This is the stroller we have used it with DS and it is a dream!! You won't regret this splurge!

  • No high (st)Rollin ' here. We went with the Graco admiral click connect jogger travel system (seriously,  what a mouth full) I like that it has 5 modes where the baby can both face you and away, it expands to toddler size, but the toddler seat is not built in,  which makes it less heavy and less bulky and it folds down pretty small without the pumpkin seat.
  • Any have experience with Orbit Baby? My friend just gave me a G3 system and all I need to do is get the pieces to convert it to a double. I'm not sure how I feel about it all though!
  • @bear14+ all I know about the Orbit is that'd it's heavy and expensive.  Sorry.

Gah!!! Just got our uppababy vista today and may I please AW for a sec? It is amaze balls!! I was a nanny for about 10 yrs and this is hands down the nicest stroller I've used that I can recall. It's ultra heavy duty (also just heavy) and obviously made to last. Took just a couple minutes to figure out and put together. The seat is the ultimate in cool for the recline feature, everything clicks for easy in/out, and the bassinet is super luxurious and even rocks slightly in its stand if you want motion for baby (not as smooth as a full rocker though). The stroller was easy to maneuver even in our tiny studio and when we were done playing, we folded it down (one handed) and tucked in our tiny coat closet with the vacuum, shoes and coats. Love!!! (So far anyway, will have to update once LO gets here, but dog approves!)

  • I just picked up a mamas and papas sola2.  I am taller but this stroller is so easy to adjust my 6 year old can figure it out.  It's also roomy enough that my tall 3 year old, who outgrew his quinny over a year ago fit in it with room to spare.

I had to share in my excitement with you.  Especially because I didn't see any other mamas and papas strollers mentioned.
  • I watched endless youtube video reviews for months and we opted to get the baby jogger. We loved the way it would grow with our family and are pretty damn sure kid #1 will be out of the stroller by the time kid #3 happens if they happen at all so we felt okay with it being a 2-kid stroller. So ideally we hope it will be lasting us quite a while. We decided against the bassinet however as we decided money would be better spent elsewhere. So we just have the one seat it comes with, and the adapters for a carseat (and a car set, dif brand.).

  • I officially covet this stroller

  • We were gifted the Graco click-connect mode stroller/carseat + Graco click-connect umbrella stroller. I have a feeling we'll use the umbrella stroller more often than the other stroller but we'll see! We liked the feel of both strollers, plus the many options for seating and such. We live in a small place so having something that could fold up was a must. I totally dig the large storage space too, definitely see that coming in handy.
