Frustrated with appt today

I only have the one DS & when I got my + with him, the OBGYN had me come right in to fill out paperwork & give blood, check hcg. Then I had an u/s at 6 weeks. We have since moved & I had to pick a new OBGYN when I got my +. I picked my SIL's since she is a Dr & I figure Drs probably pick the best for themselves. They made my first appt last TR and I gave a ton of blood, met with the nurse. She told me their office doesn't usually do u/s until 16 weeks, but we could do it earlier if I requested. I am very anxious since we have had secondary infertility and it took 3yrs to get pregnant this time, so I said yes- earlier- please! She told me I was scheduled today to meet the Dr & get an ultrasound. I had DH take time off work to come. Two hours and all I did was repeat info to them I've already given them, meet the Dr. & get a pap/breast exam. They don't even have a u/s tech in there on Fridays! And they didn't check my hcg with my bloodwork and don't consider me high risk for being 36. I was high risk with my last pregnancy because of a single artery cord. They don't date by ultrasound, just take your lmp's word for it. He just said all pregnancies & Drs are different. I guess I got the most chill- nothing is wrong until we see something wrong- Dr & I am super high strung about this pregnancy. Blerg!

  • I'm sorry @Shawnee11507 that sounds incredibly frustrating. I know that every doctor's office operates differently, have you considered maybe switching to a different OB?

  • That sucks. On the bright side, you usually can't have a pap and an u/s on the same day because the jelly can skew the results of the pap. Also - checking HCG isn't a standard thing unless you have a history of loss/fertility treatments.

It  does sound super laid back- if that's not your scene than definitely switch!

  • I will give it a little longer I think. Where we live is a lot more rural than anywhere I've lived before & not a whole lot of choices for Drs. There are others, but I don't know anyone else here yet to get recommendations from.

I had a pap and an ultrasound the same day...they did the Pap first so the gel from the US didn't skew the pap.

@talkthewholetime I'd definitely look into switching at this early stage if your uncomfy!

  • Get a different Doctor. It's important to feel comfortable with your doc and it seems you aren't.

  • Are there any local moms FB groups you could consult for a different recommendation based on the type of Doctor (more proactive) you're looking for? Sounds like this doctor just doesn't fit your style.
