November 2016 Moms

Accidentally drank coffee with dawn in it.

This might be a stupid question but it's stressing me out so I thought I'd ask. I poured myself a little coffee this morning, and after I had about 1/4 cup my sister took it and said she thought it tasted like soap. Low and behold, my BIL used a dawn infused paper towel as the filter without realizing the dawn infused part.

I'm 4 weeks and kind of freaking out because of the stuff that's being developed right now. Do you guys think it's fine?

Yes. I would call OB just to be sure but I have a feeling you're fine.

Yes, make this your 1st call.  They are great at what they do, are super easy to talk to, and they've always been kind when I've talked to them for work.

  • Immediately drink water to dilute. Do not Induce vomitting. If you have any symptoms or problems then contact your health care provider. it shouldn't be a problem, it's just a little soap

I seriously would not worry about this, especially since you couldn't even taste it and drank that little of an amount. You might have bubbly burps though.

  • I wouldn't worry about this. I don't think anything crosses the placenta from you to baby until 6 weeks anyway.
  • I wouldn't worry about it... I mean, I wouldn't drink it straight from the bottle... But its said to be the safest and most gentle soap out there isn't it? You probably get more soap in your mouth when rinsing your shampoo out in the shower.

    ...false

Edited to add: I wouldn't worry about the soap though. Call your OB if you're nervous but I'm sure everything's ok.

  • You should be fine, but I understand you worrying.
Talk to your OB, they probably can calm you down easier then we can.

  • Dawn is something you wash your dishes in so that you can eat off of them.  I think you're fine.  Aside from that though, if you were worried something you consumed caused damage, why would you post on here?  Be the time you got a consensus from people, it'd be too late to do anything that might alter the outcome anyway.  Poison control or an on-call nurse with your OB's office would be a much better choice, IMO.

  • I'd be most concerned that my BIL uses paper towels as filters. Sounds like he already has secured the title of crazy uncle.
