Infertility

For those who have a max lifetime infertility coverage

Hi!

I was wondering, if you have a lifetime max coverage, does that mean that you get to use it as you want?

We are planning an IVF cycle in May and I'm scared they won't authorize it because I didn't do IUI first.

A bit of info about us, I'm 28, DH is 31, I have unexplained infertility. We did 1 month of clomid and I had a thin lining (5.4), BFN.

Thanks!

  • I believe it's towards anything infertility related doesn't matter if you didn't do IUI first.

  • I have a cap on procedures only so they told me I can do a ton of iui's or one ivf because that's all the cap would cover. I am under my own insurance so I am thinking if I hit the max I may move under my husband's insurance.

@laur1212: That would be really great!

@ale9687: That's why we decided to go right away to ivf. Just hope they will pay! So did you choose ivf or iui?
  • A friend of mine maxed out her lifetime then moved to her husbands insurance and tapped into his!

Oh that's great! Was it the same insurance company? My husband has the same as mine, but different account.
  • @SanBL we've done one IUI with clomid, beta on Monday, if that doesn't work I'll be doing one IUI with injectables than going to ivf. My husband has the same insurance company but their policy is different. I think the lifetime cap is on each policy.

Seems like a good plan! FX for Monday!
  • I have a lifetime max but my insurance required 3 IUI cycles prior to ivf. We did them and they were all bfn. We are in limbo because I can't get a solid answer on how much I have left towards my max coverage and I can't even fathom starting the ivf process if I can't afford it. We will need ivf with icsi since my Dh's swimmers are the issue. Count, motility and asa are all problems. Wish they would have just let us do ivf from the start.
