1st Trimester

Early Spotting

Hi everyone, this is my first post and I'm hoping that I can get some reassurance to help me stop worrying.  I am currently at about 5.5 weeks (so super early still), but I have been having spotting off and on since I got my BFP on March 11.  I'm not having cramps, it's  never enough to fill a panty liner, and it tends to be more brown than red.  The spotting also seems to increase and get more red when I exercise or move around a lot, so I have restricted my activity which my OB agrees is a good idea.  Since I am A- blood type, I got a Rhogam shot today and I have an ultrasound scheduled for the morning of the 24th, but my OB doesn't seem concerned at this point.  I'm reading that spotting can just happen during the first trimester, but I'm wondering if anyone else out there is experiencing or has experienced something similar?  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that baby is healthy and I will not have a miscarriage, but it's just a big waiting game right now and my mind is racing about all the unknowns!

Thank you ladies, and lots of love to all the mamas to be out there!

Re: Early Spotting

  • Trust your OB everyone's experiences are different and sadly have no bearing on yours. If your OB isn't concerned trust that. Some spotting can be normal for some but not for others that's why no one can really tell you either way. I guess I would stay away from Google and just go with what your dr says :) fx everything goes well with you

  • As PP has stated, one person could tell you it happened to them and they were fine, while another may have had spotting and ended with a MC. Best thing to do is try to relax, follow your doctors orders and keep an eye on things. Best of luck to you!

  • They can't really do much more except maybe check your progesterone
  • I had spotting all if first tri with this pregnancy (currently 35.5 wks). It can be normal but only your doctor can say. I have also experienced an mc before this pregnancy that also consisted of early on spotting that eventually lead to heavy bleeding. Blood work was the only they can say if it was progressing.

I hope you get good news at your upcoming appointment. Try to stay positive.
  • Thank you all for you kind thoughts and encouraging words. I'm so relieved to report that my appointment went great this morning! Baby looked great on the ultrasound and I even got to see his little heart beating! It turns out that I have a small fibroid low in my uterus and that is what has been causing the spotting. The Dr. has me on pelvic rest for now but I'm hopeful that I'll be released soon so I can get back to exercising a bit.

    Thank you all again!
  • I am happy to hear about your good update.
    Thank God for Raid.
