Repeat C Section Recovery time?

Hi mommies. I guess this question is directed toward those who have had a scheduled c section. With my first, the c section was an unplanned emergency after a 26 hour labor. So, the recovery on it was BRUTAL. I've talked to several people who've said that a scheduled c section is a totally different ball game, and the recovery is usually much easier because you have not labored for hours prior. We've already decided on a scheduled c section this time around (for reasons I won't bore you with). My question is this: We've been invited to a wedding on 10/29. My due date is 10/20. The doctor said that we would want to schedule the c section a week or 4 days prior to my due date. So that could mean a delivery of 10/13-10/16. I know that with my first experience with recovery there's no way I'd consider going to a wedding 2 weeks after my c sec, but I'm wondering if maybe it would be at all possible this time around since it's planned? Am I reaching for straws here? Part of me thinks that even considering it is crazy talk, since there's probably no way I'll feel like going to a wedding,, but I guess I'm just wondering if anyone else has braved something like that before? This may all be pointless, since I don't even know if you're cleared for stuff like that so soon after surgery?

Re: Repeat C Section Recovery time?

  • I have no personal experience with RCS (although I had a c-section my first pregnancy; this is my second pregnancy) but I will say my BFF told me her second c-section was a way harder recovery. Her body didn't heal as quickly and having another child in the house made it super difficult to get the rest she needed. Personally I think going to a wedding two weeks after would be pushing it!!

Yea, my gut says it would be pushing it too :( I just so wanted to go!

  • I had 2 c sections. If the wedding was local, I might consider it. But even then, I would be prepared to stay home. I found that every day was different (depending in part on how the baby did), so it's really hard to say how you might feel. If it was more than a 30 minute drive, I would skip it.
  • This will be my 4th.  For me they have all gotten easier.  I have learned to get up an about sooner which makes a huge difference.  Personally I would see how I felt when it arrived & do what felt best for me.

  • My first was a mostly planned c-section - my baby was breach and due to blood pressure issues, they moved the c-section up sooner, but I did not go through labor.  There is no way I could have gone to a wedding at 2 weeks - maybe a local wedding for a short time by 3 weeks.  But everyone is different - a friend who also had a c-section due to a breach baby seemed to be doing really well by 2 weeks. It's too hard to know how you will feel before you go through it again.

Would you have to travel for the wedding? If it were me, I would not make travel plans for 2 weeks after, but if the wedding is local I would talk to the couple and let them know you will need to play it by ear based on how you are doing - I know it's inconvenient for the bride and groom to plan meals, but if they are close friends or family, hopefully they will understand.

  • Yea, the more I am thinking about it, the more I think we'll just have to RSVP no. It's in Joshua Tree (a few hours away)which would mean an overnight. It's a very close friend, and the people there are like family to me. But I'm beginning to think the whole thing is a bit overzealous with a newborn and a freshly cut stomach :) thanks for all the advice, ladies!
