US tech spoiled surprise?

Sorry if this has already been discussed, but wondering if anyone has had this experience.

At our US last week, the tech asked almost right away if we were hoping to find out gender and we said no.  Less than a minute later, DH and I distinctly heard her say "she" in reference to something baby was doing.  Should we put any stock in this?  We wanted to be surprised!!  :(

Re: US tech spoiled surprise?

  • Agree I think techs are trained not to use "it" as not to offend people so they are just used to saying he or she.

  • The doctor and nurses used "he" with our first.  I was convinced they were using it because we were having a boy but nope we had a girl.
  • Usually mine have said the baby. But I've also heard he or she depending on who did it. My recent scan the doc told me up front she uses he no matter what.

I start each u/s stating upfront we are team green.

  • Agree with other posters. The tech at my anatomy scan told us up front that she would be using the pronoun "he" and the doctor after said she would use the pronoun "she". Don't put too much stock into what pronoun was used.
  • Thanks, everyone!

I wish she had been up front and warned us that she might use she he or even if she used the pronoun more than once, that would make me feel better.  But she only said it once at the beginning and for the rest of the 45 minutes she never said it again.  I think she said baby from then on.  So I am just being paranoid that she slipped up and then caught herself!
  • Well, my brother and SIL didnt want to find out until their gender reveal party (they did the cake reveal thing).  And the ultrasound tech also said "she" twice during their appointment, so my SIL spread the news that it was a girl and got her heart set on that.  And....it was a boy!  So, maybe they were just trying to throw you off!?!?!
  • I always have the same tech and she uses "baby". Not THE baby but just baby like that is it's name. After the sex is revealed, if that is what you want, then she will use baby girl or baby boy but I don't know that I have ever even heard her say he or she.
  • The tech told us we were having a boy (we wanted to know), but said "she" several times thoughout the ultrasound.
  • We found out at our U/S.  Once we got to the end where we were finding out the gender, we asked if we could guess.  Well DH guessed right away but I (like usual) could not tell what I was looking at!  The tech slipped and started saying "she" so she gave it away, but I wasn't really too upset because DH had already guessed right and we were finding out anyway.  I could see how someone would be mad if they were team green or having a gender reveal party, but I didn't mind.  We've been lucky to have amazing U/S techs so a little thing like that didn't bother me too much.

  • Our scan is tomorrow and I really don't want to know the sex so this is on my mind a lot lately!  I'll probably end up being super annoying to the tech over-explaining why we don't want to know.
