Accuracy of gender on anatomy scan?

Just wondering if anyone has had a wrong prediction of gender based on a 20 week anatomy scan. We had ours on Friday at exactly 20 weeks, and we were told boy. It looks accurate as we can see everything. But, I can't shake the feeling that maybe it could be wrong? Especially since my son has been insisting since before I knew I was pregnant that I was having his baby sister. 
When I told him on Friday baby is a boy, he was excited. But today I asked if he wanted to go shopping with me for his baby brother. He tried to correct me and said "you mean sister?" I was surprised to hear that again, now that we saw that it's a boy. It kinda freaked me out! 
So now I'm having doubts about the gender. Honestly, I wanted a girl, but of course felt blessed and so happy to be having a third child I never thought I'd get. I don't know if it's intuition or wishful thinking...

    There have been instances where they are wrong, but at 20 weeks, that are usually pretty accurate, so I wouldn't count on it. If you are feeling unsure, you could ask your doctor to go over the ultrasound with you at your next appointment.

    I do see my NP on Thursday and am going to ask her opinion. She also told me kids are unbelievably correct at guessing gender. He had me convinced since he wanted a brother but insisted it was a sister lol

    I think it's fairly accurate but I'm sure there are instances when they have been wrong. I know a lady in my last bump board delivered early and they checked it 3 times in a week (as they were trying to delay delivery) and it ended up being the opposite sex.

    I thought for sure I was having a boy during my last pregnancy and even when they confirmed it girl, I still had them check on the last ultrasound (just to be sure)! They turned on the 3D part and I was like oh yeah... That's a girl.

    I was wondering this too! I saw MFM doctor for the anatomy scan, and when I told him we wanted to know the sex he told us it was a boy, but he never *showed* us! A boy is what I was hoping for, but I really was hoping to see it for myself rather than just take his word for it. I guess if I don't get any more ultrasounds I may just go to a boutique place

    I had this thought too, since I've just had a feeling it was a girl. Today was our second ultrasound that showed very obvious boy parts though so there is very little doubt now. I think they certainly can be wrong but it is very rare at 20 weeks. I've heard of way more instances of this with people being told it's a girl and it ending up being a boy rather than the other way around.

    I actually know someone who just recently (baby is 6 months old) was told baby was a boy but came out a girl. And they had gotten rid of all their older daughter's girl things so they had to go get all new clothes. Yikes! Of course, this is also just word of mouth from someone I don't know very well, so take it with a grain of salt.

    We were shown that my daughter was a girl. I spend the entire pregnancy convincing myself that the baby was really a boy. We even told the labor and delivery nurses this as I was beginning to push. Nope. She's a girl! Lol! I have heard of them being wrong, but in our case I just had awful intuition!

    I'd side eye myself if I was talking to me! Lol I just can't dismiss my feelings and my son's comments. It's weird. I never doubted anything with my first two kids. Maybe it's just because this is my last baby. But time will tell! And just in case I sound like an awful or ungrateful mommy, a healthy baby is all I really care about. It's just my personality to want to plan and know everything I can. I'll be happy with a boy, I just want to KNOW it's a boy, you know? ;)

    They are about 95-98% accurate and vary based on the experience of the tech, the angle of viewing and factors like Mom's weight. So, you will have to wait for the big day to kn I w for certain, but the anatomy scans are pretty good at predicting.

    What the tech told me is they very rarely see boy where there is girl, but it happens they see girl where there is boy. He could have his legs crossed to block his bits, and the tech makes the "girl" call...

    The tech did see our little boy (confirmed by harmony) as a boy, without knowing we already knew.

    We just found out today that we are having a boy after having two girls. When the tech pointed out the penis to us, it was obvious even to my untrained eye that he was a he. I'm not trying to be a debbie downer, just my experience!

    And if it's any consolation i think having two kids of the same gender back to back us really fun for them.

    I have weird feelings about this myself - I thought girl, and was so shocked at my A/S, when she said boy. With #1 I saw a penis, clear as day. This time, the tech pointed to the scrotum... no penis was seen. I didn't think this was how that worked! Especially since the umbilical cord or maybe even his hand was in the shot... I don't know. It certainly left me doubting a little!  My son was also convinced we were having a girl... I am thrilled regardless, just a bit unsure of the accuracy ;)

    Once I see another ultrasound I'll be 100% convinced, until then about 95 lol. Buy if you didn't see a penis, I would be a little leery until you can get another look. I know they are typically right, but nothing is for sure until it's born
