Grandparents

My LO was fussy all morning and as soon as my MIL arrived she was smiling and giggling and just seemed happier. The same thing happened last week, where my mother watched her for a full day and at night she cried whenever my mother left the room, even though I was there!! I'm so happy she loves them so much but it also breaks my heart sometimes. I'm FTM, home with LO all day (year maternity), and I give her lots of love and attention, and I'm up at night with her. Anyone go through anything like this?

Re: Grandparents

  •  Its not becasue they don't love us or want us. Its because they see us all day everyday. Its just nice for them to see different faces.

When DD & DH get home my boys get excited & start kicking & cry so they can give them attention. & If they're crying in my arms & DH grabs them they automatically stop crying.

Don't be bummed. Being around different people is exciting to them. You're still her favorite.

  • My kids are obsessed with my mom.  DS1 is barely interested in me if she is around but I love it.  It is so, so nice to have someone that they genuinely want to be with during periods of separation anxiety.  I have never had to deal with tears if I left him with my parents.  I know they are safe and taken care of, its the best feeling in the world and makes a date night so much easier.
  • My LO is obsessed with my mom. If we even say the word "Grammy" he lights up and gets excited. It's adorable but it can make me jealous too. I'm happy they have such a great relationship, I've truly never seen my mother happier

This is so true. When I was home both times on leave, my girls seemed interested in everyone but me. Now that I'm at work, I get such big hugs and smiles when I come home.

  • I was that way with my grandma. My mom said that I used to cry when she came to pick me up from Grandma's house. I'm still super close to her and I feel bad that my lo is going to miss out on having that kind of relationship with her grandma's because they are both interesting in their own ways to put it politely. Whenever I read posts like this it makes me kind of sad because of that.
  • I think it's great actually.  My girls always preferred my mom over me and it didn't bother me in the least.  I was always #3 (DH was always #2).  She's always happy to take them and give me a break.  She does special things for them that I don't and let's them have things I would never.  I don't mind that she spoils them.  I see it in DD's eyes now, she loves my mom so much too.  She actually hugs her and reaches for her.  It makes my mom so happy so it makes me happy.

  • Hey! Don't let it hurt. My son was all about daddy at the end of the day. But he's been sick. And when it comes down to it. He wants his mama for comfort and has been crying when dh holds him. You'll be the favorite until about 3. Then the daddy does all fixes all and is magic phase kicks in. No wories mama.
