Waiting on anatomy scan?

Looking for reassurance or concerns:

Wondering when everyone had their anatomy scans? For insurance reasons I've pushed it back to 22w (our insurance is changing and I hate to pay toward a deductible that we won't use). My doctor made it sound that ideally it's done at 19-20w because measurements are easier then, so now I'm starting to doubt waiting. This pregnancy has been very smooth thus far but I did have some issues with a previous one.

My local women's hospital that does anatomy scans doesn't do them until 20-22 weeks now. There's less of a chance of needing a repeat of you go later. With my son, we went at 18+3, sure enough, he wasn't big enough to get good shots of his heart and we had to go back three weeks later. This time, since protocol is now 20-22, we went at 20 weeks and baby girl was cooperative and big enough that the tech could get all of the pictures she needed.

I wouldn't worry about it at all.

  • I had mine at 18 weeks only because I also needed to have a fetal ECHO done at that time.  I have to go back in 4 weeks because they couldn't see everything, mostly relating to the heart.  Otherwise I would have gone at 22 weeks,  I think my doctor (an MFM) said even 24 weeks is in their window. I think you are making a good financial decision that is not going to harm your baby.
  • My doc said they do them 19-22 weeks but I'm having it done at 19w exactly because DH is off for good Friday and he has a bunch of business trips coming up so I felt bad making him take off more time to come to the appointment. I think as long as your doctor is fine doing it at 22w then you're fine!
  • Mine will be at 22 weeks which they said was within the range.

  • My office doesn't do them a day before you hit 20 weeks. Seriously, they wouldn't schedule me when I was 19+6. I'll be 21+1 when I go in and my doctor said it's perfect. I've heard 18-22 weeks or as late as 26 weeks. But, as always, ask your doctor outright if it's okay to push it back.

  • My office is 17-22w. I was like wow, that's a big range!
    I'll be 19 + 2 when I go next week.
  • I'll be 20+4 when I go in April. They suggested anywhere from 19-22 weeks to go in but when I went to schedule she said after 20w is preferable to make sure they get the best pictures.

  • I'll be having mine at 19+6. Doc says that she usually does them at 20 weeks or later when I asked her at my 12 week appointment. Don't worry!
  • I'll be 20+3 for mine. My doc won't do it until I'm 20 weeks. In fact, he actually recommended 21 weeks but (easily) gave in to my request of that specific day since I'm already scheduled off from work.

  • Mine will be 20w3d.
  • Thanks for all the reassurance ladies. My doctor was willing to do it, but I was taken back by how at first they really tried to talk me into not pushing it back. I know I've read that people have had it later so I guess I was doubting because just the way the first desk lady made it sound like I was pushing the limits on the rules or something. I don't want to go what's against recommendation but we switched from an hsa to a ppo and it was just a killer to think about paying for a bill outright knowing none of that principle was going to go to a new deductible I'll have in 2 weeks.

I I feel a lot better about it now- thanks!!
  • Mine is on the Friday of my 20th week, which is actually 20w6d, and I feel like it's taking forever to get here!!

The other day I got a call from the doctor's office asking if they could push up my appointment, and I got so excited!! Until I found out they only meant push it from 2:30 to 2:10.  :/
  • Mine is scheduled for 20w2d which is about 3 weeks away.
  • Im 20w3d today and mine is scheduled at 23w3d. I was worried at first, but felt better after hearing so many other stories of anatomy scans up to 24 weeks. I decided if my doctor was worried about not getting good pictures/measurements she would have squeezed me in earlier. :)
