BF mamas: do you try to cluster feed baby before bed? Like the 2-3 hours prior to babys bedtime. Also, Do you do a dream feed before you go to bed? For this I don't mean middle of the night co-sleeping dream feeds, but rather baby has been asleep and then you feed before YOU go to sleep. Trying to find ways to help DD sleep longer and would love to hear your experiences with this or strategies. What is working for you?

Re: BF mamas -cluster & dream feeding for sleep?

  • My LO cluster feeds about hourly in the evenings from about 5:30 until his last feed around 8:30 and asleep by 9. No dream feeding here. For the last week he has slept until about 7 or 7:30am.

  • We bottle dream fed for a week because she wouldn't wake for the boob no matter what I did. It caused a lot of gas in the night as she didn't get burped after the df and woke her more than without a df so I stopped.
  • I hadn't been doing a dream feed, but decided to try it last night. She ate 7:30-8:30 off and on and was asleep by 9. I dream fed her 10:30-11 before I went to bed and she slept until 8! Dream feeding right now, and hoping for similar results tonight ;)
  • DD has been having a rough go at the night sleeping. Tonight I decided to try a "top her off" feed when I went to bed. Would have been a dream feed but she got fussy while I was brushing my teeth and had a huge grin on her face when I checked on her. Nevertheless the I nursed her and she only slept another 2.5 hours. I think she has gas again and I've been liberal with food with milk/butter in it. Cutting that again and hoping a dream feed will keep her down longer.
  • I tried it several nights last week (dream feed at 1030 or so after 830 bedtime) and then back to his bassinet. Either way if I did or didn't he was still up at his usual 3 am so I didn't notice a difference...
  • I don't dream feed but my daughter likes to cluster feed from when I get home at night until bedtime. She sleeps through the night probably 5 days a week and the other two she will wake up halfway through the night for a little snack.
  • Neither. Before this regression my LO slept just fine 7-9 hour stretch without either one.
  • We dream feed but she's cut back to 1-2 feedings at night after a big every half hour regression for two weeks.
DD eats every 1-2 hours during the day usually and always has which I guess is technically cluster feeding. She has a severe lip tie.
  • No dream feeding, but LO will feed every 30-45 minutes from about 5pm til bed at 8 or 9, then usually falls asleep on DH with a bottle of breast milk.  So far she is sleeping through 8-10 hours but haven't hit 4 month regression yet, I suspect.

  • No dream feeding but we do clusterfeed before bed. Usually starting around 5 until 730/8. Then I pump before bed and in the morning for comfort and freeze it for stash. She also seems to kinda cluster feed in the mornings a little bit too I think for getting the calories she's not getting at night cause of sleep.
  • My LO also clusterfeeds from about 6 to 9 every 45 to an hour. Then wakes at night at least once and then till 7
