Hello moms of multiples! Just a note that I changed my username.... I am the user formerly known as DianaCali.

I will start this thread every Sunday with some discussion questions for everyone to answer when they have time. I would love for this thread to be dynamic and for people to continue posting throughout the week. So just because you've posted once and have answered all of the questions, doesn't mean you shouldn't post again with a question or anything else you're thinking about!

Here are our discussion questions for this week:

1. How far along are you and how many babies are you expecting?
2. Next milestone you're looking forward to?
3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:
4. Question of the week: What are your biggest fears/concerns about raising multiples and how are you managing or coping with those fears?

  • 1. How far along are you and how many babies are you expecting?
I'm 8 weeks and am expecting di di twins.
    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to?
I'm looking forward to the end of the first trimester! I have been struggling a lot with morning sickness and am hoping to get some relief during the second trimester.
    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:
I have had a rough week. I actually ended up going to the hospital on Friday because I was having severe acid refux and vomiting, and when I called the on call dr they asked me to come in for an ultrasound. On the bright side, I got to see the babies again and see that they are doing well. I have actually been feeling better since that incident so I'm hoping I've turned a corner.
    4. Question of the week: What are your biggest fears/concerns about raising twins and how are you managing this?
I think my biggest fear is just the logistics of caring for two babies. I don't even know how to care for one (these are my first children) so I am just freaked out by the feeding, changing, etc logistics with two kids. But I feel like my husband and I are a strong team and are committed to parenting our kids together, so I hope we will be able to figure it out. I'm also thinking that I might be happier if I focus on the positives, and there are a lot of positives. I've wanted children for so long and these babies are a miracle. I feel like it's so easy to get caught up in the negative parenting vibes that are everywhere! So I'm trying to focus on the positive and not be so afraid.

  • 1. How far along are you and how many babies are you expecting?
    9w6d mo/di twins
    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to?
Scheduling my appointment with the high risk Doctor
    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:
I leave for vacation tomorrow!!! Going to a cabin in Tennessee with a group of our friends.
    4. Question of the week: What are your biggest fears/concerns about raising multiples and how are you managing or coping with those fears?
my biggest concern right now is how I am going to go back to work. My mother in law agreed to watch 1 baby while I was at work but I don't know how I feel about two. We still have time to figure it out so I'm managing by telling myself we have time and other things to worry about first.

  • 1. How far along are you and how many babies are you expecting? 9.3 with di di twins, my little tater tots

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to? Seeing them again. My next appointment is on April 1st so there's a ways to go. Also I'm excited to know their genders!

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: Sometimes it still just doesn't feel real. Then the gagging and horrible back pain remind me "there's two!"

    4. Question of the week: What are your biggest fears/concerns about raising multiples and how are you managing or coping with those fears? I second worrying about childcare. I would live to quit my job and be a full time mom, but i'm not sure it would work well.

We also just moved in with my FIL since we decided 3 flights of stairs wasn't going to be safe for a mega pregnant momma of twins. My hope is to buy a house or at least rent another apartment or house before the babies come. I want to be able to nest (already having the urge) and not confined to 1 bedroom with my husband and 2 babies.
  • 1) 9 weeks with twins 2) next milestone would be tri 2 this all day sickness is crazy. 3) rant. Why is there so little stuff for twins. Looks like I'll be shopping online. 4)biggest fear is juggling 2 babies as my first. But I think with my husband and family I'll be OK
  • Quick question, what does di di or mo di mean?

  • @TurtleMomma
Dichorionic Diamniotic (Di-Di) Twins are fraternal- each have their own placenta and amniotic sac.Monochorionic Diamniotic (Mo-Di) Twins Each have an amniotic sac but share a placenta
& there is a 3rd type ;) Monochorionic Monoamniotic (Mo-Mo) TwinS-they share the same placenta and amniotic sac
    Hope that helps!
  • 1. How far along are you and how many babies are you expecting? 12w2d and two (di di)
    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to? My 14 week appt & ultrasound - & finding out the gender of both babies. We had an NIPT test at 10 weeks because of a soft marker at our ultrasound.  We got the results and everything is okay with the babies :) & we learned that there is a Y chromosome in my blood so we know there's at least one boy:)
    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: still so tired and constipated, I have a love/mostly hate relationship with prune juice
    4. Question of the week: What are your biggest fears/concerns about raising multiples and how are you managing or coping with those fears? Definitely figuring out cost and day care.  My husband & I are trying to start budget now to prepare for what the Fall will bring.

  • @girvin21 thanks for clarifying!

    1. How far along? 11w6d, di di twins

    2. Next milestone I'm looking forward to: next appt is 4/6, and I'm esp looking forward to my next u/sn which will be 4 weeks after that.

    3. Rant/Raves/Positive Vibes: I'm really thankful to be feeling great! On the other hand, feeling normal makes me a little worried that something isn't right.

    4. Question of the week: Biggest fears/concerns and how I'm coping: We told family and friends last weekend, and everyone knowing and talking about it is making it really real (read: freaking me out!). Mostly I can't wrap my head around how I'm actually going to get out of my house with an 18-month-old and 2 newborns. I'm doing my best to focus on how to teach my 1yo now so he can follow directions and be a "helper" then, and reminding myself that it is okay to accept help from friends (we live several states away from any family).
  • 1. How far along are you and how many babies are you expecting?
    10w4d; twins

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to?
    NT scan on April 1st.

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:
It's so nice to have my energy back.  My house is finally clean.

    4. Question of the week: What are your biggest fears/concerns about raising multiples and how are you managing or coping with those fears?
Not giving DD enough attention.  She's pretty sensitive lately and I'm terrified that these babies will be high maintenance and she will have hurt feelings.

  • I'm so excited to see some of you ladies that are a few weeks ahead of me are starting to feel more energetic and less nauseated! Gives me hope for the future for sure.

It sounds like a lot of us have concerns about childcare, whether that be $ to pay for it, space, time, juggling other kids, returning to work, etc. I am glad we have some time to figure this stuff out and support each other.
  • 1. How far along are you and how many babies are you expecting?
    11w2d, fraternal twins

    2. Next milestone you're looking forward to?
My first ob appt this week.  My RE just released me last week.  I'm anxious to learn our schedule for twins and a previous gestational diabetes diagnosis worth my DS.

    3. Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:
My energy level has improved but the morning sickness continues.  I'm also worried about catching the stomach bug my DS has currently.

    4. Question of the week: What are your biggest fears/concerns about raising multiples and how are you managing or coping with those fears?
I'd say our biggest concerns are getting our older home renovated before the babies come.   That and the costs of 3 children in daycare.
  • Hi Ladies! Sorry if the formatting is poor, but I'm doing this on my phone. 1. I'm 12 weeks today with di di twins. 2. Next milestone will be the 16 week ultrasound and then the 20 week anatomy scan. 3. Had a scary weekend with a little bleeding, but had a great ultrasound today. We did the NT scan and came back low risk, thank goodness. 4. Biggest fears range from pregnancy complications to expenses once the babies are here. It never ends! I really need to focus on staying calm and happy :)
  • 1. 11 weeks 4 days Di Di twins
    2. Next week we have our appt w the high risk Dr. Looking forward to another ultrasound.
    3. Still getting sick at night. I want to feel like I can eat dinner again!
    4. Daycare costs. We live in an expensive area and the rates are a little insane!
  • Not related to the questions, but just something I am learning and find really interesting: I just assumed that di/di twins were automatically fraternal, but in doing more reading it turns out there is a chance they are indentical if they are the same sex. Did everyone but me know this already?!
  • @kmvisioli I didn't know this either and was shocked when they told me this at my ultrasound appointment! I guess there is about a 30% chance they are identical and if they're the same sex you won't know for sure unless you do a DNA test at birth. Totally wild!
  • I was told it was a less than 10% chance they're identical. But I was also told I had less than a 10% chance of having twins and here I am so...
  •  1. I'm 12 weeks + 5 days today with di di twins. 2. Next milestone will be the 16 week ultrasound and then the 20 week anatomy scan. 3. We did the NT scan and came back with the lowest risk, thank goodness. 4. Biggest fears range from pregnancy complications to expenses
