Hair loss?

I didn't see another post on this, DS is 12 weeks old and for the last two weeks my hair is falling out in alarming quantities. I have very thick hair but I'm losing small clumps. When will this stop? Help

Re: Hair loss?

  • Hair loss is fairly normal after pregnancy. Many people don't lose the normal amounts of hair daily while pregnant and as a result more than normal falls out afterwards.

This, I also believe hormones play a part.

  • If you're concerned you can always contact your doctor. Could be a thyroid disorder.
  • Mine just started falling out too. My baby is 12 weeks tomorrow. I thought I was going to sneak by and keep my thick pregnancy hair, but nope.
  • Mine is falling out like crazy and has been for more than a month. Your body has high levels of progesterone during pregnancy,  which means you hardly lose hair, but once levels start to fall post partum, all bets are off.
  • Yup. I am finding it everywhere and pulling out 10-15 strands when conditioning. Be super cautious of hair tourniquets.
  • I have super thick hair without the pregnancy thickness. I was sort of relieved when it finally started coming out, so much more manageable. So many shower drain wookies though.

Every time I brush my hair I swear there's enough to make extensions with..

  • Mine started falling out this week (14 weeks pp).  It makes me so sad since I've been growing my hair out for 2 years.   I'm trying to be gentle and only use a wet brush on it.
  • I lost a ton of hair in my temple area and it looked terrible for a week or so but it appears to be growing back. I cut about 10 inches off that week since it looked so terrible in a ponytail and now I'm rocking a sweet mom bob!
  • My hair started shedding at about 12 weeks pp. It did get much thicker during pregnancy so I was expecting this, but it is really annoying.
  • *Sigh*
I'm planning to cut it all off. My ponytail is about half as thick as it usually is and falling out like crazy. No point keeping it if it looks like crap. Anyone else doing the big chop?
  • I'm waiting for the day this starts, but so far at 13 weeks pp and regular prenatals nothing. I already have really short hair, so hopefully it won't be so bad that I have to go back to a pixie!
  • @navyblueladybug that's exactly what my hair looks like right now,  my hairdresser of 9 years & mom of 2 says that it will stop falling out soon
