fibroid in uterus?

Hey everyone. So we had our anatomy scan few days ago.. baby passed with flying colours. And we found out its a girl! We are beyond excited and very thankful to God. This will be our first baby. Also during the scan it was discovered there is a 2.6 cm fibroid in my anterior wall of the uterus. Doctor told me there is nothing to worry as the location  is such that it does not affect the baby. There is no way of knowing if it was present before or just developed after pregnancy.  Now I know if doctors not concerned I shouldn't be either. But I am worrier by nature and keep thinking what if it grows bigger. Or why was it not discovered on my previous scans? My doctor said it's because they were not se detailed scans as an anatomy scan.
Has anyone had a similar experience? Some reassurance from other ladies might help me calm my mind. ThankS in advance.

Re: fibroid in uterus?

  • I had a very similar experience. The ultrasound tech found a 5cm fibroid at my 12 week ultrasound. It had not appeared at my 8 week pregnancy confirmation appointment. My doctor said it was likely much smaller at that first look and had grown due to the pregnancy hormones. She's been very reassuring that fibroids are quite common and benign, but I also had concerns about the thing growing really huge or getting in the way of labor. She said mine is in the top area of the uterus, so it's unlikely to be a problem, but it will be a "wait and see" sort of thing where they'll have to keep an eye on it as I go along. I'm a little worried about going without an ultrasound all the way from 12 weeks to 20 weeks. If it grew so much in that first period, I'm scared it will be huge next time they check!

I am a worrier too, but I try to follow a rule that if the doctor is not worried, I shouldn't be worried. I still have several months before delivery so if we need to plan around this thing, there is time. But it sounds like it won't even be an issue. I do want to try to make a plan where if I need a C-section for whatever reason, I could have the fibroid removed during the same procedure.

  • I might have one too.  It will be confirmed at my next appointment if it is still present.  I was told not to worry too.  I really hope that it doesn't get in the way of the baby turning.  Sending thoughts and prayers your fibroids don't cause issues too.
