Babywearing

I did a search and didn't find any related posts but apologize if this has been brought up.  As a STM mom, I have tried out slings, wraps, and solid carriers but am always on the lookout for new ideas.  I just ordered my first woven wrap from TULA this morning and can't wait to try it out.  I'll be watching lots of YouTube videos to make sure I get the most use out of it since they are kind of pricey!
I am thinking about adding a solid carrier as well just because they are easy to get on and off and might be more convenient for quick trips.  If you are interested in babywearing, what do you plan on using?  Thanks!

Re: Babywearing

  • I'm a FTM so this is just my plan, can't vouch for how well it will actually work! I have a Baby K'Tan for myself, as well as a Seven sling (hand me down) that I plan on using for newborn and older. We also have a Becco Gemini that will fit both me and my husband, and can be used from pretty much newborn without an additional insert. My husband thinks he'll be pretty into baby wearing (and will be home with baby when I go back to work at 9 months) so we wanted something that was comfortable for him too, which meant a solid carrier. After we bought those we also got a hand me down Snugli and Infantino sash carrier, so I guess I'll try those out as well, but they don't has as good reviews online (and I guess some concern about the Snugli and baby's hips? Need to read more)

I have the Boba wrap baby carrier. I'm a FTM and I'm pretty sure my mom didn't use a baby carrier, but I think I'm going to like it a ton. We're also going to get a more solid baby carrier for DH because I think he'll like it.
  • I got a Moby wrap for Christmas so for the first 3 mos I'll be using that. I am also getting an ErgoBaby (I think it's the original that I picked out).

  • We have registered for (and plan on using/buying) both a wrap and a carrier. If we don't get either, we will buy the wrap now to use when she is small and will get the carrier later when she is a little bigger.
  • I was able to get a used Moby off my SIL for $15! We will use that for a while and then maybe check out a local store that had classss where they do carrier/wrap tutorials and let you test them out. That way we can see what we both like! Love the idea of baby wearing and really looking forward to it!

  • We got a carrier from someone for Christmas and then we're registered for a Baby K'Tan. If we have any money to spare after getting all the other necessities I may splurge on a Tula wrap but we'll have to see. :)
  • I have a Boba wrap for myself and registered for a  BabyBjorn for DH. I have also found a wrap that is waterproof so you can shower/ go in the pool or ocean with them. I will be getting one of those as well.
  • I have a K'tan and mei tai that I used with DS and loved. I plan to use those again (k'tan was my go-to for 0-4months; mei tai after that). I just got a woven wrap too that I'll try out this time around.
  • We have an Ergo and were given a Risaroo wrap from a friend as a handme down.  I would like to buy a sling style carrier if I can find one that fits me comfortably. I was given one but it is just too tight.

FTM, but we're going to get a LilleBaby.  I like that it can be worn so many different ways with a relatively low learning curve, and it can be adjusted between people using it (I'm 5'4", DH is 6'3").  I'm not sure how much DH will actually use it, but I'm looking forward to it!

  • We have the Ergo 360 but I feel like with the infant insert it will be too hot. Searching for a ring sling - any suggestions are welcome!
  • I have the K'tan for when she's little and then the Ergo for later on.

I had the Moby last time and I hated that thing! Too much fabric to mess with.

  • We got an Ergo 360 with the infant insert (but I do wonder if that'll be too hot). I used to work with a bunch of occupational therapists, and they definitely didn't recommend anything where baby is hanging from the crutch. What's neat about the 360 is that baby can be on your hip as well as forward and rear facing on the front, and put on the back when they're bigger.

The infant insert I have for mine has mesh panels. It's supposed to keep them cooler...we'll see!
  • I got a ring sling but then I had a bad dream that the baby fell out of it so now we're also getting an ergo. I think it's good to have both- I don't have a lot of confidence in the ring sling for hiking and camping or for family members who aren't sling literate.

Mine is from DS1 and apparently they've made a cooler mesh carrier and insert for better airflow since then. Thanks for mentioning it! I'm going to be at the park all summer and maybe now it won't be so hot with DS2 strapped to me.

    No problem!!
  • FTM here and really looking forward to baby wearing, fingers crossed the LO will like it too!! We've got a Solly baby wrap and an Ergo. I'd
love my H to give both a try too but expect that I'll be the primary Solly user and as she gets older we'll
both use the Ergo. We did receive the infant insert for the Ergo but I've heard a lot of mixed reviews about it both here and elsewhere so I'm not counting on it for the first few months. I've been practicing with the Solly and a stuffed animal but plan on trying it out with something heavier like a gallon of milk as @kbrands7 recommended in a different thread.
  • Baby k'tan and ergo for this FTM also!

  • @pooputtette My SIL has one of those waterproof baby wraps.  They are amazing- I can't wait to borrow it this summer!
@LadySamLady That's a great idea- I will be practicing with milk jugs when my wrap arrives.  I love the Solly wraps- the colors are so beautiful and they seem decently priced.  Maybe I will have to try one next time!
  • I LOVE Kinderpacks. They have an infant size that does not need an insert. I believe you can use it when baby hits 8 lbs, 22 inches. And it should last well over a year before you would need to trade or upgrade for a standard size. The comfort level, quality (handmade in Illinois), and adustability are AMAZING. They can be hard to buy from their site (sell out in seconds) but if you join facebook groups you can buy through paypal for about retail.
I also love my Tula, my trusty old ring sling, and I just bought a Babyhawk mei tei for $4 at a thrift shop (Score! Can't wait to use it!) :)
  • We registered for two: LILLEbaby which we can both wear, and nesting days which would just be for me. I am a FTM so no idea how either will work but I picked them both off Lucie's List. I don't drive so a stroller and baby carrier were a big deal to me, so I am hoping we made good choices! If anyone has tried either with a real live human I would love to hear about it!
  • We have an ergo ( plus infant insert) and a mei tai. I really hope baby will love to be carried!!! I imagine it to be so practical and it would really enable you to do stuff/ move freely! Fingers crossed for all our babies! May they Looove babywearing

  • I had a boba wrap with DS2 but it is hot for the summer, so I got a baby ktan breeze from my sister and I have the original ergo with insert.  As baby #3 she will have to be worn!!

I've got a Tula structured carrier as well as a Moby wrap that I got for $15 at a consignment store. I'm also hoping to get a ring sling for the pool (my dad has a pool).
Lastly, I have this kangaroo care shirt (only in purple):

  • Loved the Moby for when DS was smaller and ergo for when he was bigger. It got a bit warm since it was mainly summer when I was using it which was the main drawback. We also got the lightweight (mesh) baby bjorn for that reason for DH. We used it only occasionally so I wasn't too worried about the hip stuff, especially when worn with baby facing in, his legs were supported pretty well.
  • FTM, but I've got the Cuddly Wrap for early on, and a family friend is making me a woven one. I'm very excited about baby wearing!

  • I'm really hoping LO enjoys being worn because I'm so excited for it. I think we're going with the baby k'tan breeze for when she's a newborn and then a Tula carrier for after
  • @DutchLucyLu  Thanks! I did more research and changed our registry
  • I'm going with the Ergo after she grows a bit and was debating on getting a K'tan and ring sling too.
  • Has anyone used the k'Tan Breeze (with the mesh side)? I had a k'Tan with my son and LOVED that thing so frickin much! It was super easy and I liked that you could do a bunch of holds without having to be a fabric origami master. However, it did get a bit steamy in there since my son has always been a radiator and I am pretty hot stuff myself. Also, since we will be most mobile during the summer I want to be able to wear baby girl comfortably in the heat and maybe even the pool. This seems to be the answer and I do need a new one since I no longer fit in my old one (I am keeping it for MH though since he will still fit in the XL).

@laurenmdrn16 I had the same experience with my cotton K'tan. After going back and forth between the K'tan active and the breeze, I settled on the active-- it feels like it has a more even stretch and I liked that it has fewer seams to check, so it's more like the original in that way. I tried it out in a test wrap and I think I like it as much as the original-- and it's definitely cooler. Less important, but also a deciding factor if other things had been equal: I like that it comes in some nice colors-- I got the coral color and it's very pretty. I'm also trying out a woven wrap this time in an attempt to not sweat as much through the summer; I'm just not sure how practical/fast it will be though when I know I can get a baby in the K'tan in about a minute.
