Mildly freaking out-possible TW

I'm 6W1D...I went to the bathroom earlier and noticed a VERY faint pinkish-brownish tint of discharge on the toilet paper. I wiped again for a second time and the toilet paper was clear. I just went back to the bathroom and there was nothing on the TP. I noticed this same thing about 2 weeks ago, after my BFP. It never progressed to anything heavy and was usually sporadic. Is light, occasional spotting normal in the early weeks? This is my first pregnancy so I have no clue what is normal and what isn't.

Re: Mildly freaking out-possible TW

  • Yes, it is normal and likely nothing to worry about. It's very common.

  • I don't have my first OB appt for another 2 weeks. I took another HPT 2 days ago and it was as positive as could be. My lower back has started to get a little sore and I occasionally get very mild cramping (nowhere near what period cramps are like)...but I've read that those symptoms are all very characteristic of early pregnancy and you can't just assume they're a sign of something bad. I think I'm just overthinking things too much, and at times am imagining certain symptoms as well.
  • It's easy to get stressed out, but that all sounds completely normal for this early part of pregnancy.  Blood pools on that part of your body when you are pregnant, so it's easy to bleed a little a few days after sex, a vaginal ultrasound, a BM, or just from a minor irritation.  Cramping and back pain are also par for the course.  Hopefully time will pass quickly and we'll all get to the point where we can get a little more reassurance from things like dopplars, ultrasounds, and eventually feeling baby move!

  • Like PP it can be completely normal. TMI question but did you just have a BM? I know sometimes that can cause a little spotting after.

  • I actually went twice yesterday and strained a little for both. The light spotting happened a couple hours later. Not sure if that matters or not.

I had a complete freakout a few nights ago with the same thing, some cramping and then later a little spotting with some pink when I wiped, then nothing at all. I will be seven weeks tomorrow and I had the light pink again when I wiped last night. Now looking back I noticed both times were shortly after a BM. Its impossible to do, but stay calm and stay positive.. that about the only thing we have control over. I have to thank all the ladies on this board for keeping me sane with support and sharing our similiar symptoms! I know it makes me feel better when I read someone else is right where I am!

  • Well it turned into dark brown spotting with some red this morning. Very mild cramping. Feels like I'm about to get my period but that's also how I felt before my BFP. My boobs also aren't sore today which worries me. But they also haven't been sore all the time either--it's off and on. I have a platelet disorder which causes my platelet counts to be low, so I wonder if that could be leading to the spotting. Maybe I'm just more sensitive to uterus changes because of that. Who knows. Trying not to think the worst..
  • FX for you @horse232. Does your doc have an after hours line you can call for some reassurance and suggestions? Might be best to get their opinion since you have a platelet disorder.

  • I'm not sure. I go to my hematologist on Tuesday. I'm going to wait it out the rest of the day and see what happens. It seems to have diminished now. If it starts back up again I'm going to call my OB first thing in the morning.
  • I'm glad it diminished.  I had quite a bit of bleeding with my second daughter, and it turned out just to be because of placenta previa (the placenta attached low, near the cervix).  It moved up all on it's own and other than scaring me with occasionally bleeding, had no effect on my pregnancy.  Hopefully yours is something simple.   Your OB might get you in for an ultrasound to check if you do call them.
