Puppps rash out of control

I was wondering if anyone had been induced because of this. I'm only 35 weeks so i know i have a few more before they can but I'm so miserable from it and its spreading eveywhere. i have tried everything to make the itching stop and it just seems like its getting worse.

Re: Puppps rash out of control

  • I don't have personal experience but I have friends who have suffered and I know it can be miserable so I'm so sorry.

  • I'm 33+2, and I've been breaking out in patches of what look like multiple ant/mosquito bites since Wednesday! One patch itches for some time, and as soon as that one calms down, another appears! I was terrified I had scabies/bed bugs/fleas, and at the OB today, I was diagnosed with PUPPS. I've never heard of it before today, so I can't really answer your question. I can only sympathize, because I know it's awful. I'm breaking out worst on my arms and legs, with only a few patches on my belly. Where are you most affected?
  • Can you use anti itch cream or hydrocortisone? After doing a general search for safe medicines to take during pregnancy here's a list of anti itch creams: https://www.womenscare.com/obstetrics/safe-medicines/  Of course, always run it through your doctor first.

  • I don't have PUPPS, but I've become extremely sensitive to poison ivy. I'm going through my second bout of it right now. As a biologist, it's unavoidable! I have been loving the Sarna anti itch lotion with menthol. Not wild about how it smells, though.

  • I've been using Benadryl Anti-Itch Spray. Works wonders!
  • I started itching at 29 weeks and got an official diagnosis of puppps at 30 weeks. It had spread almost everywhere. My dermatologist prescribed zyrtec and a topical cortisone cream (with the ok from my doc). I also took oatmeal baths and sea salt baths, homeopathy, drank v8, washed with grandpa's pine tar soap, and drank dandelion tea - in short, every remedy I could possibly find on the internet. I had been freaking out that it would last for another 10 unbearable weeks, but with all of the above remedies it cleared up and only in the past few days has resurfaced very mildly (I blame exhaustion and stress). Don't despair, see a dermatologist and hopefully you can get yours under control as well.
  • Grandpas pine tar soap helps a lot.  I had it after DD was born (bc I'm weird like that). So at the first sign of any itching I have used that and it has helped. Other pupps "survivors" swear by it too.  Good luck mamas.

THIS! Grandpas pine tar soap is amazing for PUPPS and a ton of other skin issues. The smell takes some getting used to but its done wonders for my face, I suffer from Roscea. Its not expensive either.
  • I'll have to try Grandpa's Pine Tar Soap. I bought a few bars for my husband because he was always curious about it and its attributes I never gave it a second thought.

  • I had it with my first for most of my 3rd trimester and still remember the misery (and so so thankful I currently don't have the rash in my second and hoping it stays away these last 3 weeks). I took a prescribed antihistamine, but I don't think that did much. What really helped was the grandpa's pine tar soap the other girls mentioned using only cold water to wash (no heat). That and Sarna's anti itch lotion.  Mine started around 31 weeks,  had a break between 35-36 weeks,  then it came back weeks 36-39. I was not induced,  had a csection due to my platelet count, not because of the rash. The next morning after having her, my rash started going away and I lost the intense itch. The scars stayed for awhile though :(
  • Bumping because my SIL (Due April 8) was emergency induced yesterday because of high liver enzyme count due to IPS. Symptoms of IPS start just like PUPPS- constantly itching and random rashes. However, IPS is usually accompanied by rib pain when moving or breathing. According to her OB, it's a very serious condition.
  • Mine completely went away with the use of Grandpa's Pine Tar soap, V8 once a day and avoiding dairy. Mine went away within a week. My provider couldn't believe it.
