Hot Cars

Now that it is starting to get hot again where I live, I'm struggling with how to put my LO in the car after it has been parked in the sun... Do you turn on your car first (leaving the car seat/stroller in the parking lot) or put LO in first (but into a super hot car)? I can't figure out which option is best!

Re: Hot Cars

  • I start the car first but I haven't mastered a routine yet so stealing from me (purse, purchases, etc) would be so easy lol.
  • Loading the player...
  • In Texas here. I start the car, roll down all windows blast a/c, open back door, park stroller at back quarter panel and basically fan out the car (wave car door back and forth) for a few minutes while chatting with lo. Car cools down much faster this way found it on science channel.
  • I do start my car beforehand whenever possible,  but I have auto start which makes this really easy.
  • So you guys who start the car leave the baby in the stroller or on the ground outside while you do so? What do you do if you are in a parking lot and the car seat/stroller doesn't fit between the cars?
  • @LaceyH13 I usually start my car but pull the baby up next to the door with me and have my hand on the cart while I lean in to start it. If it doesn't fit or someone parked really closed I usually just grab the car seat and put it next to the door on the ground while I start the car, and then usually load my stuff up in the trunk while the AC cools down the car. I usually close all the doors while I'm loading my stuff with baby next to me. It's kind of a hit or miss, sometimes I will even just take her out of her car seat, stick it on the seat somewhere and throw all my crap in the car and let the cool air blow on us until the backseat has cooled down enough for me to get her situated again

Doesn't your cart blow away if you leave it unattended? Maybe because I live in a very windy, flat part of the country, but 99% of the time you have to keep a foot or hand on the cart all the time or it will blow away and hit someone else's car, even if it is full of stuff.
  • @LaceyH13 I just park at the back of the lot. I figure people are less likely to hit my car and I get the extra exercise.
  • Excercise? Yuck
  • @LaceyH13 I usually push it up against my car or have a hand on it while I'm loading things in the car. I live in Cali and it's usually always just hot where I live and not much wind lol
  • We got our car windows tinted and bought one of those front windshield sun blockers. It's made a world of difference with the temperature of the car. I don't have to do anything fancy to cool the car down. I didn't realize how cheap it is to tint windows!
  • I push stroller up to driver side. Turn on the car, roll a window down. Open trunk and load stuff. Place her in her seat and leave. Where I am at it is already 85 degrees :(. I second the remote start. Probably the best spent money for texans and those living in crazy hot states. I think I will have to get that ;/
  • Remote start here, too! It's great. We're also in Texas, but it's not been too hot yet. With my previous car, I started it while DD was in the stroller or cart and loaded stuff while the car was cooling off, then put her in.
