Re: Weekend Ticker Change 3/19 & 3/20

  • Week/Fruit:  30/cucumber?

Rants/Raves/Symptoms:  Constant heartburn, as usual.  After a few nights not sleeping well earlier in the week, I've been sleeping great since Wednesday night.  I was getting over being sick with the stomach flu last weekend and had to begin taking an iron supplement so I think that contributed to the nighttime heartburn.  I stopped taking the iron supplement, but need to start it again now that I'm feeling better.

    Upcoming Appointments: Tuesday 3/22

Questions for the group:  Anyone else taking an iron supplement?  When do you find is the best time to take it?  I take my prenatal at night before bed and a Calcium supplement in the morning when I wake up.

GTKY: Are you practicing any comfort techniques for labor at home with your partner?

Uhh, nope.  To be honest I've barely though much about labor because I'm not too scared about it so far (I feel like I at least have some idea of what to expect after being with my sister during her entire labor & delivery) and I haven't had birthing classes yet.  I think as I get closer & do my classes I'll think about it more.  I have some grounding & breathing techniques from work, but I'm not sure if they'll be helpful in this situation.

  • Week/Fruit: 32

    Rants/Raves/Symptoms:
I'm just happy I can still move! While I have some aches and pains (oh my feet) I really can't complain. Another weekend of getting ready for baby- organizing spare rooms and building the last of the furniture for the nursery.

    Upcoming Appointments:
April 4th for regular appt (and strep b swap), April 6th for first growth scan. Due to high bp all pregnancy (but no pre-e indicators) dr wants to start weekly growth scans just to be sure everything looks good!

    Questions for the group:
Anyone else not having "normal" symptoms? For example I can go all day and just pee lie five times. And not get up all night either to pre. I think it's really weird and just wondering if anyone else also finds themselves with opposite tendencies of what the "norm" is?

GTKY: Are you practicing any comfort techniques for labor at home with your partner?
Nope. We're not taking any birth classes either. I figure instinct will kick in and we'll figure out what works for me then.

  • Week/fruit: 33, durian/fefret

Rants/raves/symptoms: biggest complaint is my mid back pain that radiates to the top of my uterus, braxton hicks, a little swelling, heartburn, now having sharper cramps down low.

Upcoming appts: had a growth u/s Thursday. Baby is measuring 3 weeks ahead. I only have 2 appts left. One of 4/4 and one on 4/18 for my pre-op. Need to schedule my c section. My dr is on leave and now I'm being bounced around between Dr's. I think my c section will be May 2nd but I have a feeling she's coming earlier.

Questions for the group: for STMs, what were your signs of labor? I was induced with my first and ended in a c section. I figured I'd have the same experience and walk into the hospital on my c section date. But this baby is head down and low, measuring 3 weeks ahead, and I've been having cramping. Not sure she'll hold out for 6 weeks.

GTKY: No, no laboring techniques since I'll be having a c section.
  • Week/Fruit: 32/squash

Rants/Raves/Symptoms: Just the usual swelling and heartburn.

Upcoming Appointments: 3/29 for just a regular appointment

    Questions for the group:

GTKY: Are you practicing any comfort techniques for labor at home with your partner?
We took a birthing class that we just finished up with last week so we probably should be, but we've kinda been lazy about it.
  • Week/Fruit: 30 weeks!!!  cabbage  (how about this:  an almost 3 lb human!!)

Rants/Raves/Symptoms:  just my usual anxiety over what are BH contractions and what is actual labor.

Upcoming Appointments: this Weds, March 23rd, routine OB.  Planning on scheduling repeat c-s!

Questions for the group: I started feeling muscle soreness or growing pains on lower abdomen this week.  It feels like I pulled a muscle dragging my ass out of bed.  Anybody else?

GTKY: Are you practicing any comfort techniques for labor at home with your partner? nope - another c-s Mama. I asked DH if he felt like he was missing out by not "holding a leg and helping me push a baby out."
    He said no.

  • Week/Fruit: 34/Baseball Glove

Rants/Raves/Symptoms: The contractions have really picked up.  Some of them I have to stop and concentrate through them.  I'm also super exhausted and sleep most of my day away.

Upcoming Appointments: Thursday. We'll do an u/s to check for growth, discuss induction, and probably do the GBS test.

GTKY: Are you practicing any comfort techniques for labor at home with your partner? No, but I'm slightly worried about having the dh with me.  Yesterday I was having a pretty strong contraction while I was on the phone with him. He kept talking and I had to yell at him to shut up because his voice was irritating me.  He was like, "Are you having a contraction?" And I yelled at him to shut up, again.   :#  If he annoys me over the phone, I wonder how it'll be when labor happens.

Haven't you had like 7 kids with this man? Has he not been in the delivery room with you before to know how he will be?

  • @yogahh Yes......but I've always had my mom or someone else there, too, so I didn't have to listen to just him.  I don't plan on having anyone else there this time.  Of course, this is all saying he makes it to the birth.  He could be 3 states away when labor happens, which is why I'm opting for induction.  But I can't control if I go early.  My earliest was born at 37 weeks, and the dr won't induce before 38 1/2 unless something comes up.
  • Week/Fruit: 30/ cucumber

Rants/Raves/Symptoms: I have not been sleeping well the past few nights. I have never had a problem sleeping but it just hit me this week. Last night I took a shower at 1am hoping it would help put me to sleep- it did. Guess I have a new bedtime routine.

    Upcoming Appointments: Monday 3/21

    Questions for the group: none

GTKY: Are you practicing any comfort techniques for labor at home with your partner? No, we weren't going to take the birthing class until our friends ( he is a pediatrician) convinced Dh to take the class. I need to sign up before the last few classes are full.

    Week/Fruit: 33 - don't like the fruit they have chosen !

Rants/Raves/Symptoms: heavy pelvis, achy. Got lots achieved today though including finally building cot and sorting nursery, very happy!! Usual symptoms think that's it for home run now so trying to not over focus on the crappy bits!

Upcoming Appointments: Thursday coming. Whooping cough vaccine and usual midwife measure etc! Excited to see how he is getting on and where he is located - I can't figure out if he is up or down!

Questions for the group: none but a thanks for all of you and your chat for getting me this far through relatively sanely. Not a big poster but on most days reading and thankful for advice.

GTKY: Are you practicing any comfort techniques for labor at home with your partner? No but we probably should be. Want to teach other half how to help with the breathing, should look into downloading an app maybe?

  • @valerie4786  I'm taking Slow Fe in the evenings. That particular iron supplement is (supposedly) easier on the tummy. I take my prenatal in the morning.
  • Week/Fruit: week 31!

Rants/Raves/Symptoms: rant/symptoms:  Swelling feet and it's just getting harder to get around and keep myself going for long stints of cleaning/organizing/anything!  I need frequent breaks!
Rave: We had our 3D u/s this morning and I loved seeing baby again!  We also got everything washed and put away from the showers and I feel like I'm making progress on my to-do list!

Upcoming Appointments: March 30 for regular appointment.

Questions for the group: none for now

GTKY: Are you practicing any comfort techniques for labor at home with your partner?

No.. I have no clue what I will want or not want when the time comes.  Heck, even without being in labor I sometimes love having dh rub my back or stroke my hair and sometimes want no touching at all.  We will just play it by ear and hopefully he will listen to what I need/want at the time.

  • Week/Fruit: 29/ acorn squash

Rants/Raves/Symptoms: Dilated 1 cm as of Thursday so I've been cut off from most of my normal activities, which is really convenient since we just moved and have a whole house to unpack and I'm nesting. I'll deal though. Such strong movements, particularly kicks from baby B in the ribs. Feet and ankles are so swollen.

Upcoming Appointments: GD test (rescheduled because I drank half a cup of black coffee pre-appt) tomorrow morning, perinatologist and OB week after.

Questions for the group: Anyone else dealt with slight dilation this early in this or previous pregnancies? Did it affect your ability to go to term?

GTKY: Are you practicing any comfort techniques for labor at home with your partner? We just went to childbirth class yesterday so we learned some good techniques and DH is eager (on the surface anyway) to practice.

My boobs have barely grown. I was looking forward to some double Ds.

  • Week: 32

Upcoming appts: tomorrow - closing my eyes on the scale?

Rants/raves/symptoms: Insatiable appetite/sweet tooth. POPPING EARS?? Is this a thing? The last three nights my ears have been insane, but I also wear hearing aids, so it might be related. . .

GTKY: nope. My main labor concern is getting this baby to move head down!! My first was head down by this point, so I am definitely getting nervous. I don't plan to far in advance or do a birth plan or anything. My husband and I are laidback, and we just try to keep open and positive attitudes. I did make him leave last time to eat lunch out of my room bc for some reason it was ALL I could smell.

  • @valerie4786 I am on Rx iron and have to take it twice a day. I have found that eating  granola bar with some juice is the easiest way to take it in the morning.  Then I will take my prenatal and calcium sometime during the day.

@That1didntcount  My ears have been ringing a lot today and I wondered if that was PG related. Maybe there is some connection that effects the ears.
  • @yogahh I don't get up to pee in the night, either. And while I feel like I could probably go often, I hold it just as well as before. No snissing, no accidents, nothing out of the ordinary at all. That said, I've always drank a lot of water, so I'm used to needing to go frequently, I've just experienced no change.

@jennys86 yes, I've had that, too, often when I get out of bed. I figured it was round ligament pain, or just extra pressure from the growin bump!

    Week/Fruit: 34/Butternut squash

Rants/Raves/Symptoms: I'm pretty sore and tired most of the time. I may up my chiro appointments to once a week or so. Heartburn had been a little less bad.

At my last appointment, his head was down, so hopefull he stays that way! I'm thinking he must be pretty low for my heartburn to have eased a bit, so that's good, too.

I guess I've been nesting, but I feel like it's more like the fact that I have Spring Break and feel like I need to get stuff done while I have the chance. Nursery is finished and the only thing left to buy is more cloth diapers and possibly more clothes.

Upcoming Appointments: I just had one on Friday, so a week from Thursday I my next. Strep B swab and going over the birth plan!

Questions for the group: Baby care book recommendations?

GTKY: Are you practicing any comfort techniques for labor at home with your partner?

I got him to massage me yesterday!

  • @that1didntcount I haven't experienced any popping, but I've recently noticed that what was previously a nice, comfortable volume level on my aid is now too loud. I really need to go in and have them set the lowest volume a little bit lower  :P

Also, sometime around 11/12 weeks, I had to have the aid resized because it was getting to be too tight. And it was a brand new aid that I had just gotten a month or so before! That was definitely the last thing I expected to change.

Maybe it has to do with increased congestion?

  • @amberraysofdawn I have noticed more discomfort! I mean literally my hearing aids get too tight? Can nothing in this science experiment of a body stay the same? For the love of...

  • @lalala2004 I'm finding "what to expect the first year" to be pretty resourceful and it covers a lot.

  • @that1didntcount Maybe it has something to do with increased blood flow? I know a lot of people have to stop wearing their contacts during pregnancy for that reason...

  • Week/Fruit: 31/Pineapple (another app says 4 navel oranges, wtf??)

Rants/Raves/Symptoms: I've been trying not to be too ranty lately...we'll just go with my nails have gotten brittle and dry all of a sudden.  Still loving all the movements and DH FINALLY felt a kick last night...win!

Upcoming Appointments: Tomorrow to follow up with the diabetic counselor, growth scan and 3D/4D US (since she hid her face and slept last week).

    Questions for the group:

GTKY: Are you practicing any comfort techniques for labor at home with your partner?  We didn't take any birthing classes, nor have we practiced anything at home.  Any time I have a BH (or, what I THINK is a BH), I just try to breathe deep and concentrate on one thing.  Those bring stabbing pains to my lower back and abdomen, so I just try to practice with what I'm given.  I used to hold my breath, wince and basically act like a weenie, so I feel I've made some progress. :)
