? for those with Kaiser insurance

Backstory: I didn't have Kaiser with DD#1. I chose my current Dr because she was highly recommended for repeat c sections. She is currently on medical leave and I won't be seeing her until 4/26...the week I'm supposed to have the baby! Last week I had a check up with a fill in doctor and she advised me I can schedule my c section with another doctor or wait and see when my doctor comes back. Now I'm thinking I need to find another dr. It will be too late when she comes back and what if she pushes back her leave again. Obviously if I go into labor on my own, I'll have whoever the on call doctor is. But with a scheduled c section I'd like to research the doctors and preferably pick one that is referred by a friend who has had a great c section experience. One was referred to me but this doctor is at a completely different office. Does anyone know if I can just call and schedule with her? My next appt was canceled since my dr extended her medical leave. Maybe I should try and schedule my remaining appts with the doctor that was referred to me.

Re: ? for those with Kaiser insurance

  • I'm not sure if this is a helpful response, but just some feedback on an experience I had.  I had to schedule an appointment, and both my doctor and midwife were unavailable, so I met with another doctor in the same office who I'd never met.  So, I think theoretically you can schedule an appointment with not your normal doctor.  I'd imagine you can just call the appointment line and they should be able to help you.

  • My experience with Kaiser is that it's the luck of the draw. I've been to several this pregnancy because my previous OB cancelled two appointments. No love lost on my end, so I switched, but have no problem switching again.

However, there's no reason you can't switch doctors and find someone you would feel comfortable for a c-section. The Kaiser website allows you to switch OBs, too, so you could make that doctor your primary and then make an appointment to discuss your c-section.

  • I have Kaiser and I can just request whatever Doctor I want every time. Don't know if it's like that everywhere, but they always say if I'm not happy with my doctor or they don't fit my schedule I can just go with anyone through the scheduler, I don't have to tell the doctor or anything.
