Is Your LO on a Schedule?

My LO is so not a clock baby. We have a general routine for the day but even his wake times aren't consistent (on average he can stay up for 2hrs but sometimes it's still only 1hr before he's falling asleep). His naps range from 30mins to 2+hrs. Needless to say everyday with us looks a little different with the exception of a pretty rigid bedtime routine that starts at 7pm (he sleeps through to about 630-830am depending on the day). is your LO on a schedule?

Re: Is Your LO on a Schedule?

  • I voted yes but it basically just has worked out that way by going off of his cues.  He is pretty consistent with his naps.  Admittedly I will keep DS2 up 15 or 30 minutes before his second naps if I need to.  I really love when both kids go down at the same time.

Feeding is pretty random though.  He just eats when he is hungry.

  • I wish we had a schedule! But we don't, LO is all over the place with his daytime napping. Bedtime is more "scheduled"  usually between 7 and 8pm. Most nights he wakes up at 1am, nurses and goes back down till 5am.

  • I voted yes, but like @ElleMF728, it worked its way out by following baby's cues. I will also say that, without a schedule, my son is MISERABLE. We recently completed a transpacific move (Hawaii to Rhode Island) and we were living in hotels for over a month. My son was a hot mess. Now that we're back on a routine, he is SO much happier and more manageable. Granted, there's a lot of flexibility during the day, but a rough outline makes everything run so much smoother.

  • I'm basically in the exact same boat as you are. We have a set bedtime routine and it starts at 7pm (was 6:30 but daylight savings time means it got pushed back) he's in bed asleep by 8pm. But his wake time in the morning varies wildly anywhere from 5am to 7:30am.. The other day he didn't get up til 8:30 which was crazy.

  • Nope. Winging it
  • We are trying...just when we think we have something consistent that is working he will change things up.  Naps will shorten or lengthen...or what we're battling right now is him trying to drop a nap, but it's not working with the timing and length of his other naps.  We do follow the same routine everyday of eat, play, sleep.

My best friend has two kids, both have been on schedules.  I am amazed...she knows exactly when they will sleep and for how long.  Her son just turned 1, and he naps 9:30-11:30 and 2:00-4:00 like clockwork everyday.  I'm dreaming something like this can fall into place for us eventually.  It makes planning her day SO much easier.  She can go out and get stuff done without interfering with nap time!
  • I voted other because on the days I am home we have a schedule and her sleep times and eating times are pretty close. She also goes to bed usually around a half hour window. Now on the days I work, we are way off. I work two late nights so in those nights she eats later than normal but bed time is almost the same, just a little bit later.
  • I voted yes.  We are home and I definitely try to keep LO on somewhat of a routine based on his cues.  His am wake time is usually the same every day so feedings and naps naturally fall into place according to that.  He's very predictable so I find it easy to do.  I would love love both kids to nap at the same time in the afternoon and we are slowly getting here.
  • We're on a feeding schedule the majority of the time. He eats every 3 hours during the day and none at night unless he's super fussy and I can't get him back to sleep when he wakes up in the MOTN. Of course, there are some days where he eats more frequently because of growth spurts or if he's sick or something. He does so much better on a schedule than off!
  • LO is 24 weeks and we've been on an Eat, Activity, Sleep routine since he was about 6 weeks old. Not a schedule exactly, but I know whats coming and when. Usually eats and sleeps within about a 1/2 hour each day. Some days he's hungrier and some days he's sleepier, but I always know whats coming next and approximately (within 45 minutes) how much time I have. He pretty much always wakes up for the day and goes down at night at about the same time.
  • No schedule here, I follow cues. We do have a bedtime and bedtime routine but the rest of the day is baby led. I have been tracking her rating and sleeping to see if she has any patterns.
