Nosefrida

I know that with the typical aspirater, you shouldn't use it more than 3x/day to avoid harming the mucous membrane. Anyone know if there's a similar guideline with the nosefrida? Little man is SO congested, I probably used it 12+ times yesterday...trying to avoid using it as much today but he is not happy!!

I think it's supposed to be gentler, since it doesn't actually go inside the nose, but I'm not sure if there's a max number of times you can use it.

  • When DS was diagnosed with RSV the pediatrician instructed me to use the nosefrieda before and after every feed. So go ahead and suck away!
  • My son has bad reflux causing s lot of congestion and my pediatrician also said to go ahead and use it before each feeding. So I think you are fine.
  • I don't know if there is a strict limit our Dr recommended using it before feedings and to use a drop of saline solution in each nostril first. She did warn against using it too much but never specified what too much was.
  • I always swore I wouldn't buy one of these, because the general idea is just gross.
I'll tell you, though, when your LO is sick, you will do ANYTHING to give them comfort.
Poor baby is so congested that her body is working overtime to keep it out of her lungs. Constant coughing and sniffing, struggling to breathe, and even vomiting when the drainage gets too bad. (Seriously, we are on day 6 of constant vomiting after every feed. She's probably keeping down 10 oz a day at 13 pounds.)
I got one and haven't looked back. The stuff that's coming out is so hard and dark that there's no way an aspirator would have gotten it. Once it's out (even though she hates it,) she gets a good solid 2 hours of sleep before we have to do it again. That's two hours for mommy, too.
  • I broke down and bought one.  Griffin was getting so congested and he absolutely HATED the initial sucking, but once I got it all out, he was happy within minutes.  The aspirator just wasn't getting it all, and by the time I tried to get it out on the 3rd try, he was so squirmy and pissed off, I had to call it quits.
  • I LOVE this product.  Kind of gross- but I like seeing what's coming out to check for color, texture, am I doing it correctly, etc!
  • I swore I'd never get one, just too gross. DS got a cold and I rushed out and got one gladly!
  • Same as all you ladies, I didn’t want one but got one as a gift. LO has had congestion for the past 2 weeks and that thing works infinitely better than the bulb aspirator. I still don't understand how such a tiny human can produce the amount of gross stuff that babies do, but that's another matter! She is getting way to wiggly for the regular aspirator and this works like a charm.
