Successful IVF with severe MFI?

hi Ladies, I'm looking for some hope.

We had 2 SA's come back with 0.1/0.2 million sperm/ml. Not good. We're waiting to see a urologist but assuming they'll send us straight to IVF with ICSI. I'm reading horror stories of very low fertilization rates with such a low sperm count and I'm wondering if anyone has been in a situation like this. Luckily everything checks out fine with me, it's just DH who has issues. We're in our mid 30's.

He's started ubiqinol and Fertilaid but I'm not hopefully it will make much of a change because the numbers are so low.

please share any positive stories! We are so saddened by this.

Re: Successful IVF with severe MFI?

  • I'm sorry about those results @GarnerWife.  I would recommend that you post this in the Success after IF or Pregnant after IF boards since most of the folks on this board haven't seen success yet.  I do know that IVF is successful with severe MFI though.  In fact, it is the only treatment that can see success with severe MFI.  I've heard stories of IVF being successful even with needing to surgically extract sperm due to blockages where there is zero sperm in the ejaculate.  Don't lose hope because it is possible.  In IVF they only need 1 healthy sperm cell per egg that they fertilize!

You will find a lot of support in this community if you decide to stick around.  Welcome!

Hey @GarnerWife - yes, other boards will be better suited to this question, however, a good friend of mine's DH has azoospermia. She got pregnant first try IVF with ICSI for both her DS and DD. Best of luck to you. Don't lose hope. Focus on what you can control and that is a positive mindset! ;) xx

  • My husband is one of those guys with azoospermia and had to have sperm surgically aspirated. The procedure wasn't nearly as successful as we had hoped for and just had 15 (yes double digits) leftover after ICSI. Good news though, 7 out if 8 eggs were fertilized and 4 made it to blasts! Best of luck with IVF and stay positive!

  • Same here @GarnerWife my DH had very poor sperm count and bad motility but we still had 28 fertilised eggs (I have PCOS on top of his issues, hence so many eggs) of which 18 made it to 5day blastocytes and 11 made it through PGS.
Im sorry you have to go through this, but I have seen many success stories here from people with the same or similar issues, so don't give up hope. Fx
