Placenta Previa

Has anyone been told that the have placenta previa?  I was told at the anatomy scan when I was 20 weeks that  I had partial coverage.  I'm now 24 weeks.  I go back in April to check again. They say it should clear up but it's still nerve wrecking. Not sure how to not research and freak out.

I did. They said  the threshold is within 2cm and mine is 1cm, so not actually covering but close enough. Same as u doc said should clear up on its own and we will check in 8 weeks. I am not worried at all.

  • I have, and I think there are a fair amount of us over on the Anterior Placenta thread.

I had a marginal coverage anterior previa at 20 weeks. They said it's likely to move on its own and they're checking again at 32 weeks.

    Here's the other thread: https://forums.thebump.com/discussion/12653521/anterior-placenta/p1

  • I had "low lying" placenta with DD and despite random spotting I didn't know until the 20 week scan. I had to go back for an echocardiogram at 27 weeks and by that time the placenta had moved up on its own.
  • I just got back from the doctor and was told that during my 20 ultrasound it showed a low lying placenta. Doctor doesn't seem worried as she believes it will most likely move, but its still worry some!
  • There are a bunch of us in the previa/pelvic rest club. My understanding is that it's it partial, you have a very high percentage chance of it taking care of itself. I think if it's a full one you are most likely having a C-section and being put on bed rest.

Im not a Doctor and only looked at Dr Google once so take this with a grain of salt. My follow up ultrasound is scheduled in a month, when I'm 28 weeks.
  • I was told at 18 weeks that mine was partially covering my cervix but the MFM doc would not diagnose it as previa. I go back in April to recheck when I am closer to 27 weeks. I think it's fairly common and a lot of times it moves up as the uterus gets bigger.

stay off the interwebz.... Listen to your docs... the vast majority of cases completely shift and everything is good to go. The bright side is that if it doesn't shift and remains covering the cervix, you will have time to mentally and physically prepare for a C-section, which a lot of mommas will tell you were actually very good experiences.
  • A moment of silence for those of us on pelvic rest. Unless you're one of those people who hates sex, in which case, congrats.
I'll pour one out with ya!!!
  • Mine is very close, I have follow up growth scans booked in anyway so they'll check then, next one is 28 weeks.

I am so glad to see this post. I was diagnosed with "low lying placenta" on Monday at my A/S 20w4d. She didn't call it Placenta Previa though but she mentioned it was pretty close to covering my cervix that they will need to recheck it. They want it to move up not down more. 95% of the time she said it moves on it's own. She said there was no harm to the baby however it does affect the delivery when that times comes. If it does not move then they would schedule a C-section a few weeks early.  I go back in 4 weeks for a re-check.

Edited to add - Pelvic Rest! More Pelvic rest! She mentioned other stuff can be done BUT NO orgasms....so not quite sure what that point in other stuff would be :( I've been on Pelvic Rest since 5w6d. :(

If your doctor doesn't seem worried about it I wouldn't be. I know its nerve wrecking. I suffered a previous loss and been a wreck this whole pregnancy but I've learned to stay calm as stress isn't good for the baby. Easier said then done I know. Plus the wait between appointments is super hard. Just do what your doctor says and prepare yourself for a possible C-section if it does not move.

  • I had marginal previa (3cm) at my 20 week scan and just had my follow up about 2 weeks ago (and 4-week pelvic rest). The Dr. said that it had cleared by 10 cm - and that there was probably a miscalculation along the way since that would be like the wayyy other side of my uterus. But she did say that most of the time it does clear up! Hopefully this is the case for some of you ladies.

  • I was told that they couldn't measure the centimeters so they think that I could possibly have placenta previa this was at my 19 weeks can they told me to come back in 8 weeks which is at 27 weeks but they also said not to worry because it usually corrects itself I looked it up and it's not really such a huge deal to me As they know what they're doing if I have to have a C-section then I have to have a C-section but again they think it will correct itself I find out mid April
  • I did with my first. No sex or exercise! Cleared up on its own.
  • I had it with my first...it did "clear" but not till late in 3rd tri. Not saying that to be discouraging, but that sometimes it can take awhile!  But as others said, the majority of cases are fine before baby is due to arrive so other than the no sex it usually doesn't cause problems.

I'm 24 weeks and have full Previa. No bed rest but no sex and no exercise. I go back at 27 weeks for another scan.
  • I was told it was pretty close but haven't been put on pelvic rest of warned off sex/orgasms.....hmmmmm.  What does that do?  Avoiding sex I mean?

  • At 19 weeks I was told I had partial placenta previa but my doctor wasn't overly concerned because most of the time they fix themselves. I go in tomorrow (at 25w6d) to check so I will update!
  • I had partial previa/low lying with my first. I ended up getting ultrasounds weekly the last 4 weeks before I delivered to see where the edge was because it was very close. In the end the doctor was comfortable letting me go into labor and delivering vaginally with extra monitoring and the warning that and bleeding would lead to a c-section. I delivered DS without any issues related to my placenta. TDLR: even if it's low to the end there's still a good chance of it moving enough even very late in the pregnancy.
  • I was diagnosed with partial placenta previous at 22 weeks. I went for an ultrasound yesterday at 26 weeks and it had moved up.  I was worried about potential bed rest so I'm really relieved.
