Re: PGAL check-in 3/14

  • 20 week US in 2 weeks but we already know it's a boy via Panorama!

No rants really though I'd love to sleep. Races: my kids are so so excited about the baby. It's a beautiful thing to watch.

Salty all the way. All the salt.

What's next? (milestones, appointments, something you are looking forward to): Midwife appointment on Wednesday-- I'm mostly looking forward to hopefully hearing the heartbeat.  I think the midwife will have some preliminary results from my NT scan, but I will get my second blood draw for it at that appointment.

Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: Sending good vibes to everyone!  I really oscillate between excitement and nervousness.  I'm very hesitant to buy anything for this baby until we get through the anatomy scan.

GTKY: Sweet or salty snacks?  Do your preferences change during pregnancy? Sweet, mostly. I'm usually all about chocolate, but switch to more fruit-flavoured/sour cravings during pregnancy, with occasional cravings for cheesy snacks.

What's next? (milestones, appointments, something you are looking forward to): Anatomy scan is April 5th (after 22 weeks). Counting down every day!

Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: DH felt his first kicks last week, ever since he's been super excited. I feel like it helped him finally get to feeling like he can actually believe this whole thing is real and we will end up with a baby in the end this time. It's like he had been holding his breath and finally let it go and relaxed.

    Questions?

GTKY: Sweet or salty snacks?  Do your preferences change during pregnancy? All the salt! I usually love a sweet now and then and lots of types of foods (Thai, Mexican, Chinese, etc) but I hate everything except super salty American food. It has not changed this whole time.

What's next? (milestones, appointments, something you are looking forward to): We have our anatomy scan on Friday! I can't wait!!

Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: I'm really nervous about the ultrasound; I'm worried that something will be wrong. I'm trying really hard not to think about it though as there's nothing I can do but wait...

    Questions?

GTKY: Sweet or salty snacks?  Do your preferences change during pregnancy?
I usually am a sweet lover but this pregnancy I've definitely switched to salty. Salt & Vinegar chips have been a pretty consistent craving.

What's next? (milestones, appointments, something you are looking forward to):anatomy scan next week!

Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: had a check up today, so happy to hear LO's heartbeat!

    Questions? Nope

GTKY: Sweet or salty snacks?  Do your preferences change during pregnancy? Both? Depends on the day, but probably more sweet than salty which is totally different than pre-pregnancy.

What's next? (milestones, appointments, something you are looking forward to):

Anatomy scan 4/1 and I cannot wait as I haven't felt the baby move in a couple days.

    Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:

I haven't gained any weight and I am starting to freak out. I mentioned this to a couple people and they keep saying "well that's not good".....really not helping my anxiety

    Questions?

Anyone else not gaining weight yet?

GTKY: Sweet or salty snacks?  Do your preferences change during pregnancy?

I love both normally, though more on the sweet side. I haven't had much appetite, so couldn't tell ya!

What's next? (milestones, appointments, something you are looking forward to): Anatomy scan on April 12th. I can't wait.

Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: I have been feeling her move and I love it so much. I can't wait til the movements are strong enough for DH to feel.

Questions? @mksfav - I haven't gained anything since losing 20 pounds my first trimester and the doctor is okay with it. She says as long as baby is healthy, she isn't concerned. Don't worry too much, just bring it up at the next appointment to ease your mind.  :)

GTKY: Sweet or salty snacks?  Do your preferences change during pregnancy? Mostly salty. I'll have something sweet every now and then, but even when its sweet its not decadent sweet. Its like a banana popsicle kind of sweet lol.
  • Weeks: 17 w 4 d

What's next? (milestones, appointments, something you are looking forward to): Appt on Wednesday. We'll be getting a blood test and normal check up. Hopefully scheduling anatomy scan too.

Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: Having growing pains and starting to notice my bump getting bigger, but my boobs are definitely growing faster!

Questions? This is super silly and superficial, but will my previous belly fat spread out evenly? I know I'm ridiculous!

GTKY: Sweet or salty snacks?  Do your preferences change during pregnancy? At first I couldn't stand sweets but now I'm really liking them again. For some reason fruit roll ups are my favorite right now. Balancing them out has always been more important to me. Always need both!
  • Weeks: 18

What's next? Anatomy scan on March 31. I can't wait! I just want to see the baby again and find out that it looks healthy. It'll be a bonus to know the sex too. I also want to ask for a cervix check just because I've been feeling pressure down there and have convinced myself something is wrong. Worried my OB will think I'm crazy though since I'm not at risk for it.

Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: I'm in a lot of pain! I've developed sciatica, which I've been treating with stretches, pelvic tilts and a heating pad. I see my chiropractor tomorrow. I didn't think this would happen already, then again I look huge for 18 weeks. I'm feeling a little more positive though because I can definitely feel the baby moving! It's still feeling like a flopping fish, but it's stronger than before. I can feel twitches from the outside but they're not strong enough for DH to get excited about.

Questions: Anyone else have sciatica? If so, what have you done to relieve the pain?

GTKY: pre pregnancy I loved both equally. Especially if they could be combined like pretzel m&ms. Now, however, I crave sweet all the time and rarely want salt if ever.

What's next? (milestones, appointments, something you are looking forward to):
A/S April 7. Too far away!

    Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:
I'm dead tired and have been putting in 12 hour days at work lately because of an emergency. I can hardly keep my eyes open.

    Questions? Nope.

GTKY: Sweet or salty snacks?  Do your preferences change during pregnancy?
Mostly sweet, but also spicy! I am craving jalapeños.

  • @JournoGrl23 I have horrible sciatica. I had it with DS1 as well. I got a few prenatal massages, which helped some, but not much. My OB just referred me to physical therapy for it, but I haven't gone yet. I'm hoping it helps!

  • @bananers I'm sorry you have it so bad! I'll ask my OB in two weeks if she recommends anything. I'm really hoping the chiropractor is able to help me tomorrow.

What's next? (milestones, appointments, something you are looking forward to):
A/S on Thursday along with monthly appointment. Feeling anxious, trying to hold it together, so thankful my appointment is in the morning that day.

GTKY: Sweet or salty snacks?  Do your preferences change during pregnancy?
I've definitely shifted towards only wanting salty, savory. I'm really not interested in sweets for the most part so I'll be interested to see if it's a boy.

  • @mksfav I haven't gained weight yet either, but I am a "big" woman to start with. I would just ask your provider if there is cause for concern.

Weeks: 19 or 20 (see below)

What's next? (milestones, appointments, something you are looking forward to): Had my anatomy scan, all was well but the baby is "big" so the doc who read the scan recommended changing my due date back to being based upon my LMP (they changed it at my 7 week ultrasound). Waiting on my OB to confirm that it what we are going to do.

Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:  Love feeling the baby move, can't wait until my DH can feel it. My regular pants officially no longer fit but it is very hard to find maternity wear if you are plus size, so that is frustrating.

    Questions?

GTKY: Sweet or salty snacks?  Do your preferences change during pregnancy? Depends on the day/time.  For the first few months of my pregnancy all I wanted were dill pickles. ALL THE DILL PICKLES. For the last few weeks it has been fresh berries.
  • @bananers I'm sorry you have it so bad! I'll ask my OB in two weeks if she recommends anything. I'm really hoping the chiropractor is able to help me tomorrow.
My OB recommended a belly support band.

  • Congrats to everyone who had their anatomy scans!!

@jacmkelley congratulations on finally moving in to your new house!

  • I'm having a bad day. In the past couple days, and especially today, I've had an even bigger increase in discharge. I know discharge is perfectly normal, which I even said on another thread. But lately it's been clear, watery and odorless and it soaks through the liners I've been wearing. I called the OB and she said she just thinks it's urine (which I don't because urine smells and is yellow tinged) but to call back or go to the ER if I bleed or experience pain. I'm so scared and worried right now because I really don't want to lose this pregnancy. I know I'm probably worried over nothing again but that doesn't calm my mind. It doesn't help that the office is closed tomorrow through Monday for St. Patrick's Day.
  • @JournoGrl23 can you ask to be seen, just for your own sanity? And if not, can you head into urgent care? All they have to do is dip a test strip in it - seems like a small inconvenience for your sanity. On that note, I sometimes wonder why they don't sell home test kits. I know this is a common concern among pregnant women - especially toward the end.

I'm sure your OB is right and it's nothing, but don't undervalue your sanity/peace of mind!!

I like the last persons thought! That would rock! Lol
@JournoGrl23 go to urgent care! You will feel better. It sounds like maybe pee to me. I did this last three or four weeks of my pregnancy (and DD was 3 weeks early). It didn't have a smell or a color. And it feel like a lot to me too. I went to hospital for it at one point to just check.
  • Thank you @bananers and @jacmkelley

Thats awesome about being able to buy ph strips from Walmart! I may try that since I would be able to test any time I'm worried. I think my OB should have seen me since it's such a simple test. I can go to urgent care but I'll have to wait until after work now. I'm going to try to get off early tonight, maybe around 11:15. We have an urgent care that's open 24/7 here. Hopefully they have the test and won't try to send me to the ER. That'll be packed for St. Patrick's Day.
  • Sorry you're feeling so worried, @JournoGrl23.  I have a TON of discharge during my pregnancies.  Sometimes I have to change my underwear!  It is odorless and clear, definitely not pee, but just a lot of discharge.  My underwear was soaked when I got home from work yesterday!

On a positive (selfish) note, I got to hear baby's heartbeat today at my midwife appointment.  Everything looks perfect so far.

  • @Fremdschamen that makes me feel s little better that you're experiencing the same type of discharge I am. Mine also soaks through which is why I started wearing liners, which I have to change several times a day because of it. I'm sure my OB is right and I'm fine. I've overreacted to every symptom this pregnancy out of fear. I just definitely want some peace of mind because I know worrying isn't good for the baby.

And I'm so glad you got to hear the heartbeat! That's always a reassuring and comforting thing to hear.
  • @JournoGrl23 I also have a lot of discharge during pregnancy so it is normal, but I also say it doesn't hurt to go to urgent care. It's worth getting a confirmation for your peace of mind and also so you learn what your normal is. Good luck!!

  • @Bookhousegirl thank you and I agree! Looks like I should head over there after work.
  • @JournoGrl23  Not sure if this helps but my Midwife actually asked me if I was experiencing an increase in clear, odorless discharge (I am) at my 16 week appointment. She said it's super common, especially as you move into the second and third trimester. She called it "the body's way of keeping out any bad stuff that could reach baby."
I know it's just one opinion of one Midwife, but it made me feel better!

  • @1faceinacrowd thank you! That does make me feel better. And I feel better knowing that some of you are experiencing the same thing. I just wish I could stop worrying about every symptom I get and relax and enjoy this pregnancy.
  • Hey all. I'm a nurse practitioner in urgent care and we're not equipped to test for amniotic fluid (and I know that as a provider I wouldn't feel comfortable telling a patient that she's OK even if the pH indicated it wasn't amniotic fluid).  You might want to call urgent care first to see if you can be seen for this problem.
  • Thank you, @janelemon2342 I didn't know that. I'll definitely call ahead if I go just in case.

Whike at work I still had discharge but the gushing kind seems to have let up. My OB said amniotic fluid would be constant. So I'm trying to relax for now. In the meantime I had DH buy some of those ph strips on his way home from work. So we'll see if that works!
