Eye color

I have read that a baby doesn't truly get their eye color until they are 9-12 months but I'm just curious how many babies have had their eyes change to brown now. My husband and I both have brown eyes and our son has brown eyes but my babies eyes are still really blue. Just curious to see if others still have blue eyed babies when brown is a prominent gene.

Re: Eye color

  • Not me personably but my friend has a 7 month old and both her and her hubby has brown eyes. Their sons eyes are a pale icy blue and I don't think they're going to go darker, they're gorgeous. My parents both have dark eyes and I'm the only one of my 3 other siblings who has light green eyes

  • Hey ho recessive genes!
  • My whole Italian family s brunette with dark eyes and I'm blonde with blue green, and I look too much like my dad for any shenanigans, lol, I thought they kept their eye color at 6 months?
  • I had thought they kept their eye color after a year but DS is about to turn 3 and his changed when he was about 2 or 2 1/2. He did have blue eyes like mine but they've since turned green like DH
  • No idea in the timeline of when their eyes change colors, but thought this was an interesting chart
  • I love that chart, camaguire21! I have brown, hubby has green. We have a brown eyed son and our 6 month old daughter has icy blue eyes! People are always asking us what the chances of that were.
  • My LO still has that baby grey colour. It's really hard to tell if they will be green or brown (don't see much blue in there.) DH has dark brown eyes, I have green and DS has light brown eyes. I'm crossing my fingers for green for baby girl!
  • I have hazel (dark green that changes to brown at times) and my husband has blue eyes. Our son has had brown eyes since birth.

  • I was wondering this same thing. i have brown eyes and my partner has green. Baby's turned from icy blue gray to a bright green a couple months ago and now they have some brown creeping in, but not taking over. Now they shift daily from green to dark hazel. I love watching it!
  • I have dark brown, my husband has green eyes. Our first turned out with a honey color, our second has light green eyes and my son has light green as well but sometimes they look grey! Not sure what his will end up being.
  • ahaha I've showed that chart to my DH before his dad has brown and mom has blue and he turned out to have light green eyes. I always mess with him and say he's the milkmans kid :D
  • DD1 was born with blue eyes.  They changed at 4 years to hazel.  DD2 went from blue to hazel around a year . DD3 has grey eyes so not sure what's next.

  • Interesting to see everyone's different experiences. My son had gray eyes when he was born but I remember them switching to brown within a few months. Then it was very clear that he would have the "almost black" eyes like me, rather than hazel like my husband. (My husband's eyes are almond brown for the most part but occasionally they go dark green). My daughter's eyes are blue. A darker blue but definitely not gray. I'm interested to see what happens and amazed by this concept. Hair color has been fun as well. Both of my babies were born with dark brown hair. My son's fell out and went platinum blonde. Then started to darken over time and eventually went back to dark brown. My little ladies dark hair has been replaced with auburn red. Looks like she might end up being a red head like me.
  • I love genetics and the phenotypes that come with them! I have hazel eyes with a very prominent green color, husband has sea blue eyes. DS1 eye color changed to brown around three months and stayed that way. DS2 had deep blue eyes with one eye having two brown flecks in it. I assumed he would turn hazel or brown rather soon, but at six months he still has that deep blue color on the outer ring of his iris with the inner part turning green slightly. It's a really interesting look and I'm starting to wonder if he's going to keep it.
  • My eyes are blue green that change to gray depending on mood/ lighting/ what I'm wearing, hubby's are true blue and so far so are DD's, kinda hoping she keeps them, they're so pretty, she got my blonde hair so I'm cool with that level of resemblance, thought for sure she'd be brunette like daddy, I think that's supposed to be the dominant gene so that was a surprise
  • I have amber eyes, DH has brown eyes and both our kids have blue eyes.  I think they will have different shades though.  DS1's are icy, sky blue and DS2's are a little darker blue like my FILs.
  • I'm still waiting to see what our daughters eyes will be. They seem to change daily! DHs eyes are more hazel, brown with bits of green and yellow. And mine are blue with a brown ring around the pupil. LOs eyes started out dark blue and kept getting lighter now I see the brown ring in her eyes. Sometimes her eyes look green, other times blue, and sometimes brown. Hoping for blue like mommy :)
  • DH has light brown eyes and I have hazel. DD has had icy blue eyes from the start. Wondering if that will change. She's fair with golden almost strawberry blonde hair so she gets a lot of comments about her eyes. Hoping they don't change!!
