For months now Lucy has taken 30-35 minute naps. While this has been terrible in most respects it meant I could feed her on a schedule, she liked to eat 6.5 ounces every three hours. Five times a day. With no motn feeding. So she'd get a total of about 33 ounces per day.
She has consolidated a few naps in the last week. Hopefully not just bc she's sick and on Tylenol.
I'm thrilled when she does but it no longer means I can feed her on my schedule- which was really good for my OCD. So my anxiety is stupidly interfering with what should be a back to basics issue.
How do you feed your baby when they nap through a scheduled feeding, or don't eat every X hours?
Do you give them more? Different amounts? A snack?
I'd really appreciate learning what you all did/do. Sample schedules??
Hopefully the few consolidated naps turn into something I can count on, Lucy is a happier baby when she is rested.
Thanks all
Re: Help! Feeding amount/schedule when naps start to consolidate??
So they sleep through the night now with out a feed. The earliest they wake is 5Am latest 6am. They eat 4-6oz in the morning. I feed them again @ 930(5oz or 3oz of they have solids.. They sleep for an hour or 2. Wake up & eat @ 1 pm(same as previous feed)sleep until 430
or 5pm. They eat @430 asleep or awake.(same amount. if asleep no solids until after) Eat again @ 8pm(7oz) & thats their bed time feed.
If they dont drink all their milk i dont give more @ the next feed but because they wont take more they jist finish what i give them. & I also just give solids in between.
The time they fall asleep for the morning nap varries between 930 & 1030 & their afternoon nap & bedtime is always on point.
Idk if your LO will wake up if feed her asleep. Like i said ive always fed my twins on schedule even if theyre asleep so they are used to it. Maybe give it a shot & feed her on her schedule or tweek it once you have figured out her naps.
- wake at 7. I wake her if she is still sleeping.
- feed at 7. Play around with her, lots if tummy time and exersaucer.
- asleep at 9. I have to keep her very entertained for the last bit of her awake time otherwise she would fall asleep in my arms.
- awake at 10. Jolly jumper for a bit and tummy time.
- feed at 10.30. Solids if any around 11.15
- asleep at 12.15
- awake at 2pm
- feed at 2.30 and playtime
- solids occasionally around 3.15
- asleep at 4
- awake at 4.45
- feed at 5
- bath at 5.45
- feed at 6.15
- asleep at 6.30
I find that if I keep her awake for these periods instead of trying to get her to sleep as soon as she starts to get grumpy, she goes down for naps with no fight at all and sleeps longer. I also try and make awake times really active/stimulating!
