DH and I have decided on a name for our little girl but aren't sure which is the proper spelling. We know the name is derived from Adeline but we don't like the (line) sound at the end. All of these spellings are on websites but which is the most proper or commonly used?

Re: Which is proper?
Helping you choose the lesser of multiple evils answer: Adelyn has by far the highest historical usage. Please avoid the double n spellings, as they are modern inventions.

However, if you want the name still pronounced a-dah-LINE then none of your spellings make sense. Since you asked about 'proper,' the only proper spelling is Adeline.
We want the LYNN sound and don't like the LINE sound. I'm not a fan of the NN either but DH wanted it to be an option to see.
We know the proper spelling is Adeline but we don't like the LINE....sounds like "Out of Line" when you pronounce her name then.
I don't think mis-spelling the name is the right way to keep people from mis-pronouncing it.
Adeline. Your names look made up.
@ejverre Did you find you had to correct people a lot on the pronunciation or did most say it Ada-lyn?
