Gestational Week: 35 weeks! Holy almost full term Batman!
Successes: WOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOO major celebration this week!!!!!! Had my OB appt on Thursday... Dr is happy with how baby and I are doing, said as long as we make it to 36 weeks baby can come at any time, AND... I showed her my numbers from the past month of testing and she laughed! Verified I wasn't on medication to keep things under control (was a joke, because she knows I'm not on meds for GD) and told me to just test twice a week just to verify things stay on track. What a relief!
Challenges: Now I have the challenge of not going overboard since I'm not testing as often. This was kind of a splurge weekend though because we celebrated our first anniversary!
Recipe/Tips: I'm not sure if they are available everywhere, but my store carries corn tortillas that have half the amount of carbs as regular! I like the way they cook up better for tacos too! Been using them for tacos, making my own chips, and tonight it's for enchiladas!
Questions: I'm 100% craving milk right now... I just want it ALL the time! I know milk isn't the best before noon, so any suggestions?! I can't do soy, and rice milk is too watery for my taste. (I'm usually a 2%er.)
@allaire314 I'm so happy you only have to test twice a day! It's freeing... And honestly weird... I still test more often... Because as you mentioned... Cheating is sooooooo temping sometimes! No milk ideas other than unsweetened almond milk. Only 3 carbs per cup and blue diamond is the closest I've found to taste and consistency to cow milk (1%)... But if I'm craving a glass of milk, it doesn't help.
Gestational Week: 37 ( please baby come soon!) Successes: He turned head down... And from the increasing rectal pressure and near constant Braxton hicks... I'd say he's moved down in my pelvis too. I have no successes to report in regards to GD... It's getting frustrating again! Challenges: I forgot to test my fasting levels once this week... I'm not too worried about it though because other than one time my fasting numbers have never been above 77 and usually remain in the 60s. my biggest challenge has now been dinner! I keep having higher readings no matter what I do. I feel like I can now only have 30 carbs for dinner... But if I do that, my fasting sugars are even lower (upper 50's) despite a hardy before bed snack. I'm thinking it's because I'm so close to the end of this pregnancy and my body is starting to block insulin more as it gears up for labour... And boy is it gearing! But it has about three weeks and I hear especially FTM's bodies can take their precious time getting ready.
@korpatch Almond milk is the one thing I haven't tried... grocery day today, so I'll pick some up and give it a go! And it's twice a week, not twice a day! Like I said, my fingers are thanking me, but I'm scared to cheat!
And YAY for head down babies... hopefully he'll come soon so you don't have to stress about the numbers anymore! They wouldn't do meds this late in the game due to your nightly readings, would they?!
Twice a week!?! Wow! I'd feel so scared! I'm happy for you though! Wow! Especially at this point in the pregnancy with hormones starting to get stronger! I don't know.. I think my doc said if it gets bad they'd put me on a pill.
@korpatch yeah I was shocked too, but most of the time my 2 hour post meal numbers were below fasting level. There were a few times I had over double the amount of carbs I was supposed to, and I still tested around 100. But I think the twice a week is to make sure that the surge of hormones doesn't send things sky rocketing.
Hopefully they don't have to medicate this late in the game for you!
Challenges: My late afternoon/evening nausea has returned and all I want to eat after 5pm is carbs and sweets. I've been trying to keep that under control, but I don't think I'm doing a very good job. My post-meal numbers have been quite high this week even when I'm not eating high carb meals, so I need to keep a closer eye on things.
@AEG84 Ugh! I'm so sorry! Probably the same end of pregnancy hormones causing your numbers to be high are the ones making you sick. We're soooooo close to the end! I can't imagine not being able to have carbs when you feel ill! Oh the things we go through for these babies...
Successes: My fasting numbers had been borderline and lately have been in the high 80's, low 90's. (Except for last night, when I didn't get a walk in because I've come down with a cold). At least I'm not on meds.
Challenges: It's seriously a pain in the butt to test 2 hours after meals. I find I have to sneak out of meetings at work to test (or test under the table) and this weekend I had two concerts I was singing in and a baptism right in the middle of my two hour window, so I missed a few tests. I'm really hoping I can stop testing 4 times a day soon. Oh, and I'm having serious acid reflux and some vomiting because of it. It makes me want to eat really small meals, but then I'm hungry within 2 hours. I'm ready to be done with this GD stuff.

Have you decreased your activity? I know it's tough, especially with nausea returning, but it might help! Also staying hydrated really makes a difference for me!
@allaire314I haven't been particularly active, period, but I have probably spent more time sitting than before to try and help with the swelling, and especially in the last few days since she dropped and is murdering my pelvis. Yay pregnancy! :'(
Successes: Readings have finally been consistent and below target now that I am taking 2 units of insulin per carb serving.
Challenges: Getting used to using insulin and not giving into any of the bad cravings that I'm having.
Recipe/Tips: My DH knows I'm craving pancakes like mad! He makes me "healthy pancakes" that are absolutely delicious and filling. https://chocolatecoveredkatie.com/2016/01/11/flourless-pancakes-vegan-banana/ he also adds plain greek yogurt and blueberries instead of chocolate chips. They are awesome and completely satisfy my pancake craving.
Questions: None really... My endocrinologist is awesome and I can e-mail her with any questions and she responds within the hour. I absolutely love her!
So my doctor got back to me and told me that my higher than my normal sugar numbers could be caused by a last minute placental growth spurt? I've never heard of that... Have you all?
