Trouble TTC

New medications. Doctor went out of town before explaining them to me >:(

I have been waiting for a while for blood work results and finally got word that everything came back fine. Just a minor horomone imbalance causing me to not ovulate.

So so I am now on progesterone and clomid. And the doctor said to start taking them today. But she had to get off the phone because she had patients and she would call me back today to explain the medications to me. But when I called back after not hearing from her I found out that she had left for the day and would be gone until Monday.

I read the bottles and I have taken progesterone before but never clomid.
I was prescribed 10 days of progesterone and 5 days of clomid. But the clomid says to take on the 3rd day of my menstrual cycle. If I start while still taking progesterone do I stop taking the progesterone or can I take both at the same time?

Also my first doctor told me not to get pregnant while taking progesterone. So is it even safe for me to try right now? And there's a 24 day blood test? What is that for? How do I know when to schedule that?

Im really confused and frustrated and unfortunately finding a new doctor is not an option at this time. I have had really bad luck with doctors.
1st obgyn I went to for 7 years. He retired only was in my state 2 days a month. And neglected to tell me about an sti I had contracted (3rd doctor finally told me and had me retested)
2nd obgyn I left mid appointment because when I said I wanted to get pregnant they started getting judgy about the fact that I am not married (for multiple reasons. Keeping the peace in our families being the main one)
3rd is from the same office as the second and happened to have an open appointment and overheard my frustration at the desk while trying to get a new appointment with a different doctor. And now I am playing phone tag for 4 days for results and have to wait almost a week for answers about medication that I know nothing about.

    I'll start of by saying I am not a doctor, and a doctor's instructions and advice is definitely best. I would call and see if the nurse can answer your question or give you directions on which medicine to take when. It should be written in your file.

    That being said, I've never heard of taking progesterone before you ovulate. My understanding is that high progesterone pre-ovulation is a bad thing for both ovulation and receptivity of the uterus. Everytime I took progesterone, I stated it a day or two after ovulation. Clomid per your doctor's instruction would begin on day 3 of your cycle. Most doctor's define CD1 as the first day of full flow (not just spotting) and most REs say if you have full flow after 5:00pm, you need to consider the next day as day 1.

    I do need to caution you also that taking Clomid unmonitored can be dangerous and ineffective. The vast majority of people on here will tell your not to take it. For me personally, I took 2 rounds unmonitored with my OB and turns out it was a big waste. Once I saw a RE, I found out I don't respond any differently on Clomid (I ovulate on my own already) and Clomid thins my lining, bringing my chance of pregnancy down to less than 2%. Thinned lining and reduced fertile CM are common side effects of Clomid. Additionally, Clomid can be dangerous if you have a cyst before starting. You also have no way of knowing if you are responding at all or too much without monitoring.
    Married to DH 10/6/12
    TTC since 5/14
    Unexplained with (controlled) hypothyroidism and suspected ovulatory dysfunction (but, I do ovulate on my own)
    Clomid 50 mg 3/15 (unmonitored) - BFN
    Clomid 50 mg + metformin 4/15 (unmonitored) - BFN
    First RE appt. 5/15; Natural cycle 5/15 monitored with 2 mature follicles and Pregnyl Trigger (full dose) + prometrium - BFN
    6/15 HSG - clear tubes & normal uterus; great PCT test results
    TI - 100 mg Clomid + prometrium (AM & PM) + vaginal estrace (AM & PM) 6-7/15 (monitored) --> no additional response and thinned lining - BFN
    TI - Injectables (follistim + Gonal-F, Ganirelix, & 1/2 dose Pregnyl) + prometrium (AM & PM) 9/15 --> 3-7 mature follicles (3 definites and 4+ that could have matured due to trigger) @ O -->BFN + 5 large cysts
    BC for 2 weeks due to cysts
    TI - Injectables (Gonal-F, Ganirelix & full dose Pregnyl) + prometrium (AM & PM) 10/15 --> 1 mature follicle --> BFN
    TI - Last attempt at injectables (Gonal-F, Ganirelix & 1/2 dose Pregnyl) + crinone (AM only) + vaginal estrace (AM & PM) 11/15 --> 3-4 mature follicles --> BFP!! 11/27/15 @ 13dpo (shockingly, actually waited until then to test)

    Beta #1 @ 16dpo (11/30/15) = 1,075
    Beta #2 @ 19dpo (12/3/15) = 3,150

  • They put me on progesterone because I don't get periods on my own. Nor do I ovulate on my own. However I just started spotting on day 7 of taking progesterone and holy ow cramps. I really hope this works after one cycle and I'm still trying to get ahold of my doctor.
  • I think you are taking Provera to induce AF, I had to take it few times and my AF always started before I was able to finish my 10 day medication. Provera is a form of progesterone but I think it is different than the progesterone that ladies use in TWW to keep pregnancy. That is the reason of confusion.
    Are you going to have a baseline control (U/S and Blood work during first three days of AF) ? In my clinic, you get a baseline to check if everything is okay then you start Clomid or letrozole on CD3 or CD5. I hope the clomid makes the trick for you, my mom got pregnant with me by Clomid after 10 years of TTC :) But try to get monitored cycles if possible, because these medications could cause lining thinning, cysts or hyper stimulation and it is best if you monitored.
    Best of luck !!!
  • I'm going to try calling my doctor again tomorrow her office was closed today due to snow and horrible roads.
    Hyper stimulation just means multiple eggs and therefore multiple babies if I were to get a BFP that cycle right? id be okay with that.
    Im on day 8 last night I had some spotting and I thought I was starting AF but today nothing. Just evil evil cramps :(
  • Hyper stimulation means that you over produce follicles and can be very painful (and sometimes dangerous). It doesn't necessarily mean that you will ovulate multiple eggs, but it's definetly possible (one of the many reasons while monitoring is important).

    Me: Endo, PCOS, septated uterus (mostly removed)

    Started TTC in June 2011

    Baby boy born 3/17/2014

  • Not sure what your doctors exact plans were, but I was told to take Clomid day 5-9 and then an ultrasound day 10. Are you seeing a RE or OB? They may have different practices so not sure.
