Should I go to EUROPE?!

So... DH travels a lot for work and recently he booked a trip to go to Europe!!! the end of April. He told me I should come at the end of his business trip since it's kinda a once in a life time trip. I'd only go for a long weekend and would have to fly by myself, which normally I wouldn't mind at all but 11 wks PG? The company is buying his ticket obviously so we'd only have to pay for mine. My in laws would keep our other children...
Am I crazy for thinking of going 10 1/2 - 11 wks? I was fairly sick last time and a 12 hr (or whatever) plane flight kinda sounds miserable. BUT EUROPE?! I want it!!
What would you do???

Re: Should I go to EUROPE?!

  • I'm going to France on the 9th of May. I think you should definitely do it! Whereabouts are you going?

  • Go! I fly for a living and many FAs have kids so they'll be very sympathetic if you need a little extra space/attention/water/bathroom breaks. :)

  • Definitely go. Symptoms should have stabilized by then, as long as your OB allows.

Don't kick yourself for not taking advantage. It'll make a great story, even an early Babymoon for you two. Lucky girl!

Read the policy very carefully before buying. I've never seen a policy that didn't list pregnancy as a pre-existing exclusion.

Many don't have a problem covering so long as it's before a specified weeks gestation. Yes, absolutely read the PDS and make sure it is good travel insurance for your circumstances!

Eta: Odd Is no the same as PDS, thanks autocorrect!
  • Do it!! Call it an early babymoon :)

  • I would go. That being said, I've never actually experienced morning sickness. My first pregnancy we went to Mexico  when I was 8 weeks pregnant and I stressed so much before hand worried I may be sick at that time. I stocked upon ginger, sea sick bands, every possible cure I read about and never once got sick! lol. I say all that to say, don't worry about a problem that may not even materialize. Go and have fun! Prepare for the worst and expect the best. Good luck!

  • I would! We're hoping to go on holiday for my birthday (August) before we have to buy another passport! We bought the 3 of us passports in the past year after DS was born in June, and were planning on going somewhere then I found out about this one so my oh was determined to use the passports! Well be going somewhere like Italy France Germany or somewhere similar, but we live in England so we can get the ferry over rather than fly since I'll be around 26w

  • Well, thanks, ladies! We'll see how things pan out but it's pretty hard to turn down a chance to go to Europe! I'll have to look into trip insurance.
  • Definitely go! But I would really look at staying longer, did you say only a weekend? It is a very long flight and you may have to adjust for the time change. I like to do the red eye there so I can sleep on the way over, land around 8am and try to have a full first day. For that long of a flight, try to go for at least a week.

    Where will you be going?

She has other kids - going for "at least a week" is really hard/basically impossible when you have kids.

Exactly what @talkthewholetime time said. It does seem like a bummer to only go for the weekend, not even adjust to the time change and then turn around and come home. But a weekend in Europe is better than no Europe, right? ;)

I honestly don't know where we'd be. Flying into Budapest, Hungary but not sure what our plans would be.
  • A weekend is definitely worth it then. Budapest looks so pretty!!
  • No doubt you should go! When I was pregnant with my son I was living between two countries and traveling quite often and never had an issue. I had terrible morning (all-day everyday) sickness, but managed it all the same on the long haul flights. I'm sure you'll have an amazing time and imagine all the cute baby things you can find in another country!
