Hey ladies! This upcoming Saturday is my shower, and the following weekend DH and I are going to finish up shopping for LO! My question is, how many clothing articles of each size is reasonable? I know each baby grows at his/her own rate, but I'm looking for a good starting point. I'd like to purchase newborn-12M but MIL tells me not to buy too far ahead (all ideas are bad to her). What do y'all think?
Re: Baby Clothes
I'd say 2 onesies and 1 pair of pants per day you go between laundry, plus 2-4 sleepers and a dressy outfit for pictures/holidays/church etc.
It's a boy! Grow baby, grow! EDD: 4/22/2016
DS followed the expected progression pretty well so I got really lucky with him. Plus, he was born firmly in the dead of winter so that helped as far as knowing what was going to be seasonally appropriate immediately. I don't think it's as easy with an April baby when you're in the Midwest like I am.
I like 7s. My first had horrible reflux so we changed her a LOT. 5 to 6 outfits a day. For this one I aimed for 7 sleepers, 7 onesies, 7 pair or pants for either size. There are a few extras like 1 to 2 hoodies and I got 2 cute little multi piece outfits (the ones with short and long sleeve options) for if we have to take her anywhere (spoiler alert: we have to do tons of this) early on.
I spent so much on my first daughters wardrobe. She wore pajamas. Half the clothes weren't worn. A solid 1/4 were worn to snap a picture and then we were done.
Aim for comfort. Comfy baby is a happy (ier) baby.
I know for sure Carter's (probably Oshkosh too) doesn't have a time limit on returns as long as you have the receipt. We've gotten DD1 a lot of clearance stuff super cheap at the end of a season in a size we think she'll be the next year. If it doesn't fit in 6-9 months no harm done.
The other thing I'll say is you have no idea what type of clothing is going to work best for you in 6 months, let alone a year. You may love onesies, you may hate them. I prefer normal shirts/pants/shorts/dresses because I think diaper changes are way easier. Yet I have friends that did one piece clothing for years.
There were a lot of things we were given or bought that were too big and she "missed the season". Also keep in mind people give gifts after the baby is born and it is usually clothes.
If you are a FTM, you will get a TON of clothes 0-24 month size. I would hold off (except for maybe a few outfits) until you see what people get you. I also recommend asking for bigger sizes (if people ask). I discovered that I had SO MANY clothes, and some only got worn once, maybe twice.
Also, my daughter was not in the size according to her age. By age 1, we were already working our way into size 2 clothes. Now at 2 (Feb), she has been wearing size 3/4 since the fall. So it might be good to hold off (like some PPs said) until you know your child and their size. Some are big, and some are small, but we love them all
I think there are more choices when it comes to girls clothes thi
That being said there were a few outfits I found on sale that I *had* to get. I figured if I only spent a little and bought mostly 3-6 mo the baby should be able to wear the outfits eventually.
