Infertility

Introduction - thanks for letting me hang!

Hi everyone! I'm semi-new to The Bump, although I've lurked all week to get a feel for this particular board and I think I've found my people  :) My husband and I have been TTC since October 2013 with zero luck. We've both been through the usual tests and everything is normal, which should have been comforting but really just frustrated me more.

I I have a cyst on my ovary that I'm getting removed in about a week and a half (nervous about that) and then we will start IVF. I'm 33 and DH is 36.

We live in Boston and have a frisky dog named Purple (hence the username and avatar). I'm on another forum that has a generic TTC board but most of it is like TB's straight up TTC boards.

Will see see you all around!  B)

Re: Introduction - thanks for letting me hang!

  • Hi and welcome @PurplePumpernickel !!! Yes, unexplained is most certainly a very frustrating diagnosis. I only recently found out I have endo, but spent years not understanding why we weren't successful. It's so tough!!! Good luck with the cyst removal! fx it all goes well. When are you anticipating starting IVF? Have you tried anything previously (such as clomid, IUI etc)?

  • @oxinfree my RE thinks I Mae have endorsed as well. Dr Google tells me I have some of the symptoms too.  :| RE says that given my age and how long we have been trying, he will start us on IVF first. Haven't been on Clomid, no IUI. Did everything else. Charting, temping, I had two different fertility i finally deleted because they were making me crazy.

    Thanks for for the Welcome!
  • Welcome @PurplePumpernickel! I am new here as well and I am also unexplained. I'm surprised no Clomid or IUI because 33 is still really young! But in any case, hope all goes well with the cyst (I actually just had one on my left ovary), and of course with IVF treatments.

Also, I love that you have your dog in your username. Omar is my cat's name :) It's great how much joy our animals bring us through tough times.

  • Welcome @PurplePumpernickel! I know first hand how frustrating the "unexplained" diagnosis is. It feels so funny to be upset there's nothing wrong, but we've been trying for two years, so if there's no problem, what the hell is the problem?!?!
Forgive me if this is overstepping, but I find it really surprising your RE wants to jump straight to IVF. Taking into account your age and dx, it seems logical to try the least invasive treatment first. I'm 35 and my RE wants to try IUI at least twice before venturing into IVF. I know IVF has a greater chance of success, but still...I hope they've at least explained your options!
Good luck with your cyst removal. Keep us posted!

  • Welcome @PurplePumpernickel!  Sorry you had to find us this way, but you will find lots of support from these ladies.  Good luck with your cyst removal and hopefully you can move onto ivf soon.
  • @hbomb513 That's a good question, and I'm not entirely sure of the answer. When he and I first met (several months ago), it was before all the tests were done, and he did say he'd likely try IUI first. If I had to choose, I'm not sure which I'd go with, especially since I've heard that IUI isn't nearly as successful as IVF.

Thank you everyone for your warm welcome. It makes me sad that so many of us are on this journey, but at least we have one another!
