Shower Hairstyle Help!? (TOMORROW)

edited March 2016 in May 2016 Moms
This might be a kind of odd thing to post here, but i figure with such a melting pot of ladies theres bound to be some hair junkies out there whove got some fun ideas up their sleeves, and I need help!

I normally -when not pregnant- have platinum blonde, blunt straight bangs with long, pretty thin, hair. Using a straightening iron and getting everything pin straight sort of works well with my hair cut and i can pretty much pull that off for any occasion. So i am really not too big on actually doing my hair beyond that. It does NOT hold a curl for anything. If i dose my head with hairspray before and after curling, it still wont stay for more than a few minutes and i end up with this odd really lose (not cute) fallen out wave/curl. It ends up just making my hair look super messy so i go with the straight hair almost always.

Now that im pregnant, I have forgone the bleaching of my roots and ended up dying my remaining grown out blonde, purple! I have also decided to temporarily grow out my bangs as I am thinking as a new mother I will enjoy being able to just simply pull everything back and out of my face. But here i am now in this very ''in between'' hair. Bangs are currently hitting near my mouth, roots are many inches long and I feel like going only pin straight is looking a little off. The drastic block of brown above purple is obviously much more obvious in very straight hair and i really dont love how my grown out bangs look just hanging out there on the sides of my face, super straight. So i feel like i need to do SOMETHING to at least stray away from the pin straight style for my baby shower TOMORROW.

I'm realizing i should have thought about this a little sooner, but here I am. I would love to possibly incorporate braids somehow. If it was up to me i would use curls too but i cant imagine any level of curls actually sticking around long enough. It needs to be fairly on the easy side and ideally something that will stay nicely affixed for a few hours. So if i was your hairstyle-less hopeless friend, what would you do with my hair?!

Okie doke, Let me see if i can find something recent, If not ill just take some quick ones.
In the meantime - How I normally wear/like my hair:

Currently its super natural state [with coconut oil in, and glasses as to not scare anyone.. lol]

Color when its newly dyed (doing it today) but this is from Decembr so my bangs are longer now and my roots are worse(see above.)

  • Could you start with pulling your bangs back and pinning them into a short bump on top. Then maybe pull the rest of your hair back into a messy ponytail/bun mix? Since you have the color block, that would eliminate the issue of it being really noticeable. I'm not sure if this works well with super straight hair, but I think it would be worth a try :)

  • evalynn24 When you start pulling things around, having the dark roots and the black underneath does definitely make the roots much less of a drastic block like they are when its super straight. So i would definitely like to pull something back some how. I do a mini-bump pretty often actually with them but leave the rest of my hair down and straight, cause im also not too thrilled with how i look when there is absolutely nothing framing my face. Though I could try this with some pieces in the front still hanging out!! I will definitely play around with the idea. Thank you!

I might be late with this, sorry! 1st of all, you are so cute!! I have the same issue with having super straight hair that won't stay curled. Pin curls usually work for me to add some kind of texture to my hair, if i pin it up when it is damp, and then blow/air dry it for a while, I'll get curls that will actually stay for a couple hours.
  • are you looking for a midpoint between an up style and wearing it down? Or do you want totally up? I usually get some great ideas from Pinterest as inspiration so you could try that.

Aww youre too sweet! Despite that i occasionally do more retro pinup looks. Ive never braved the pin curls! However i have braided my wet hair to get it to dry wavy. Maybe wet pin curls are the ticket!!

    Stuck in the box!!
I think half and half ideally! Totally didnt think of pinterest for that! Will do!

Here's a few ideas I pulled for you

They should all work nicely for straight hair. The one with the braid is cute and you said you'd like to possibly incorporate a braid too :)

good luck and post pictures when you're done!
  • I was going to mention a braid across the front to pull your bangs back.
  • ayeshaohara I love all three of those! and i have not seen those before, thank you so much! I think i might try for that third one if i have enough hair. My hair is super thin so to even get a braid that thick might be impossible. Of course i have blonde clip in extensions but im not willing to dye them purple encase i go back blonde id hate to ruin them! So i will see if I have enough hair to do that. If not honestly the first one is even adorable.

  • Just tease your hair to get more texture and for it to look more full. While your hair is wet apply a volumizer. I have thin hair too and this always works for me. Also, blow dry your hair upside down.

  • Sometimes I try to manage my grown out bangs with a front braid close to the hairline and then tucked behind the ear. Works pretty well when I have the patience to do it like five times to get it right. A couple of examples of what I'm talking about:

  • doozer1345  This is so pretty! I would love to do something like that too its awesome! Another thing to mess with tomorrow AM!
  • Pascal86 This I have tried, for some reason i have a really hard time getting the braid to be thick enough which really doesnt make too much sense but everytime i do it i feel like the braid just isnt enough. Maybe worth trying out again though.

It's definitely been hit or miss for me - I'm not very consistent with my hair styling abilities, so sometimes it looks great and sometimes it's a mess. I think sometimes I start all the way down by one ear and go all the way over, rather than starting more towards the top. If your hair falls over the part by your ear, you can't see it where it's thin and tiny, and it's thicker up top because you've added more hair at that point. But it's also harder to do it when you start at one ear because you have to go upside down in the beginning, and I'm not very talented like that.
  • Pascal86 Yeah im exactly the same. Sometimes i can do it and sometimes its a disaster lol. Though in the past ive pulled off extensive retro 50's pinup hair with perfect victory rolls and it stayed put. so i have no idea why i cant even put a braid in my hair now. lol
  • I've been looking all over for a hair tutorial I found awhile back that demonstrated a product to use for texturizing thin hair braids (because I also have super fine hair that results in skinny braids no matter what I do). Couldn't find the specific one I had in mind (will keep looking for it though), but here is a link to check out and maybe keep in mind for future reference:

  • Baby shower day for me too today. I'm awake so early...allotted myself 3 hours to get ready. Everything takes so long when you're pregnant
  • So, I woke up at 5am, Pin curled my hair. Took it out at about 11:15.. and straightened my hair back out at 12:45 and left. Fancy hairstyle was a total failure... as was pretty much the whole shower.
  • Sorry to hear that - why was it a failure? (The shower)
  • I posted in June about it, (Since i still cant decided where i belong, DD is on the cusp.) but just a lot went wrong, and i was really overwhelmed. :/

  • Oh my. Just read it.

In all honesty, some of your guests sound rude, the venue sounds awful (you should give them a bad review) and the fact that everyone was implying that you should get up and mingle and then hurry up with the gifts, would have been enough to have anyone in a flat-out panic. RUDE.

I am sorry that people didn't make it about you and your baby. That is the whole point of a shower. If people aren't gonna do that then they really should have stayed home.

You have all the right in the world to feel upset about it. When you are ready, you will be able to move on.

I hope that you can at least enjoy the gifts (give the pink stuff away lol).

  • Charissadeats Thanks! I literally had to just opt to stop speaking at certain points because i was positive if i said anything else i would have started crying and made a scene against my own will. The fact that i kept myself there for the entire time was a true personal accomplishment.

Pink stuff is first on my list for returns today, atleast the pink gifter was nice enough to give a gift receipt.
  • WOW. I'm so sorry...just reading about your shower gave me anxiety.  I can't get over the plates.  Seriously?  Plates?  And your MIL...makes me really happy that my MIL doesn't care about this baby or anything baby-related.  Good Lord.
