Anterior placenta?

I am on baby number 3. My placenta is anterior this go around. . . I am very concerned and nervous because I can't feel any movement. Nothing, nada!! Has anyone else been through this? I'm going crazy and a nervous wreck thinking something is wrong because I can't feel my sweet baby girl move yet!

Re: Anterior placenta?

  • I had this with my first two babies and I'm thinking I do this time too because I don't feel a ton of movement. It makes me a bit nervous, especially towards the end of the pregnancy. I remember feeling good strong kicks around week 25 I think?

  • Mine was confirmed via my 16 week ultrasound last week. I also am having twins that are sharing the placenta and they think it'll probably be another month or so before I feel anything!

  • I had an anterior placenta with both of my boys and now again with this girl has been confirmed with multiple ultrasounds
I'm 19+3 weeks I can feel her movement when I'm really still and quiet and am concentrating on trying to feel her if I'm up and about n busy forget it I feel nothing
And it will take longer for dad to feel from the outside typically .all totally normal from my experiences
  • I had an anterior placenta with my first pregnancy. I felt very little movement, only strong kicks on the side. It did cause extra anxiety throughout the pregnancy. Towards the end I had to be monitored a few times each week. She would be moving the entire time and I couldn't feel any of it.
  • I'm pretty sure I have one this time but haven't confirmed it.  I'm going for a check up tmrw so I'm definitely going to ask.  I felt a few flutters early on this time, but by now with my DD I was feeling a lot and DH was even able to feel it from time to time on the outside.  This time, almost nothing yet.  I know he's moving, tho, because when I use my doppler he's alllll over the place swimming away from me lol.  I can definitely see how this would cause anxiety, even with DD she moved so much that if I went a little bit without feeling her I'd start to panic.  I'm storied to hear that it affects feeling even toward the end when they're big, I guess the placenta is really a lot bigger and cushier than I imagine it to be.

  • I'm in the same boat. I could feel ds pretty consistently at this point. They confirmed with an ultrasound and I'm so bummed. Every now and again I feel her but it's rare and very light
  • Mine is NOT anterior and I still haven't felt any inkling of anything.
  • I am expecting my first just hit 19 weeks yesterday and still have not felt anything.  My doctor said that is normal with an anterior placenta they also said that I may not feel anything until week 21 or later still I find myself freaking out a little bit because I haven't felt any movement yet.

Just wanted to chime in that I had an anterior placenta with my first.
I didn't feel kicks from the outside until 22 weeks. But I definitely felt her move all the time once she got big enough.

    Edit: spelling!
  • I had anterior placenta with DD1. Didn't feel movement as much as I'd hear others- didn't know what I should feel since it was my 1st anyway. The last 2-3 months though I definetly did, DH could feel & I could actually see movement from the outside.

  • You're definitely not the only one. I hit 20 weeks yesterday and hadn't felt a thing... turns out I also have an anterior placenta. My doctor said it's extremely common and nothing at all to worry about. He said that somewhere around 25 weeks I should start to feel movements since baby will be a lot stronger.
  • With my first I had an anterior placenta, I didn't feel him until 21 weeks.  Think of it as a pillow between stomach and baby, all movements will be muted.  Totally normal, try not to worry as there is no reason to!

  • Just had my anatomy ultrasound yesterday and confirmed anterior placenta.  I figured as much since I hadn't felt the baby move yet but everything looks great so I'm not too worried.

  • I have my anatomy scan on Monday, but just wanted to chime in again here because since I've posted I've had several nightmares about baby.  I'm even more certain that my placenta is anterior dice discussing lack of feeling with my ob.  I still can't feel him, and by now DD was beating me up in there.  I'm becoming more and more paranoid, especially because of the nightmares and my family's history of late miscarriage and stillbirths :(

This is my second and I also have an anterior placenta.  The first time I started feeling things around 16wks.  This time around it was more like 18.  I'm at 20.5wks now and I can feel the baby no problem although I should mention that at my U/S they said I was measuring 13 days ahead.  So even then I would say between now and 25 weeks you should feel something?

I have an anterior placenta and felt some little movements at 17 weeks, then they disappeared. I have a Doppler and the heart rate is great, so I guess it's just this darn placenta that's not letting me feel now?
  • I've finally felt a few little movements this weekend! I'm almost 21 weeks now.
  • *lurking from July*
I have an anterior placenta and now feel strong movements multiple times a Day even some on the outside  at 25 weeks and really started to feel true movements around 20-21 weeks in my case. It will happen for you ladies :)

  • So ladies, has anyone felt any movement yet? I'm 19 weeks today and still nothing. I have an ultrasound with the specialist on Monday, so I can't wait to see them again!

  • Yep, me too! It was confirmed last week at my anatomy scan. Fortunately, this baby is low compared to my first pregnancy, so I can feel little kicks near my panty line. But nothing in my belly region! Hoping as baby get bigger, I'll start to feel more.
  • 21 weeks and I'm feeling kicks get stronger down low. I occasionally feel kicks a little higher, but still nowhere near my belly button.

  • 22 weeks now and feeling movement every day now for about the past week. My DH felt two kicks so far, usually when the baby is really low.

Just curious...and feel free to tell me if this is asking too much information, but since your twins are sharing a placenta does that also mean they are in the same amniotic sac as well? I am asking because a really good friend of mine is currently in the hospital being monitored for her "momo" twins and I had no idea how high risk that was and also how amazing. She posts quite a few updates regarding their progress and has made it to 26 weeks and is hoping to get them to 34.
  • @kristynmac it's a good question! I've learned so much about twins in the last few months it's kind of crazy. Mine are actually mono/di twins which means they share a placenta, but they have their own sacs, etc. It sounds like your friend might be mono/mono! Both are high risk because of the sharing. They start monitoring for the possibility of TTTS which is twin to twin transfusion syndrome. It only happens with identical twins and basically means one can take nutrients from the other and that's where a lot of extra monitoring comes in. If your friend isn't in a few groups there are some really good Facebook groups for the specific types of twins.

  • I've started to feel movement daily for the past 5 days or so. I'm 20w5d, so I guess right around 20w movement became much more consistent.

  • I'm 20w tomorrow and still barely feeling movement. Thankfully I get Doppler checks weekly from the nurse that gives me my makena shot so i know all is well in there. But the little one is moving around so much and I don't feel 99% of it!
  • I had my anatomy scan at 19w4d and literally since the day after I've been feeling movement everyday throughout the day!  It's like that u/s wand kicked my nerves into gear or something lol.  I'm 21w1d now, still using my doppler just because, but at least I'm feeling movement now!  Nothing near as strong as with DD at this point, DH could even feel her on the outside by now, but at least I'm feeling it so it rids me of some of the anxiety.

  • I had an anterior placenta with baby #1 and couldn't feel her until after 32 weeks...Doctor said it's completely normal and it was. She was born a very healthy and wonderful baby :-)
  • I've started feeling movement but it's really inconsistent.. Felt it a few times a day for 2 days then nothing the 3rd day. Hoping it'll become stronger and more consistent!
  • I had my anatomy scan this week and the tech told me I have an anterior placenta. I've been feeling movement since 18 weeks but it's more just flutters no actual kicks. I'm hoping in the next few weeks they'll get stronger.

  • I've got the placenta in the front as well, but have started feeling the baby more this week, which is week 20 for me. Today it was hard for the radiologist to get a good look at the baby without pressing hard. A prenatal nurse told me last week I might feel more on the sides and top, especially at 24 weeks and up.
  • Ok I have an anterior placenta too. But I've felt babt before 16 weeks and I'm just now 20 weeks and my husband felt her last week too. So crazy because I've heard it's harder to feel and see baby, but I had a quick anatomy scan and have had tons of movement.
  • I had anterior with my first, and according to my baby book, I did not feel baby until week 25! It was nerve-racking, but from what I understand normal. She was always a wiggle worm on sonos. I felt her mostly in my ribs and breathing. Don't fret! You will feel more movement later on as the baby grows.
  • Mine is anterior and I started feeling kicks at 18 weeks on the dot! They have started getting stronger! DH saw him move but still can't feel him yet! No worries doc was suprised I was able to feel them already! :)
  • 19 week anterior placenta is 1 cm from cervix can't have sex. Have to wait til 28 weeks to see if it's moved, very nervous want vaginal delivery
