Removing Toxins

Hi All,

For those of you that have removed products that cantain toxic chemicals, I'm curious what you are using now. I've replaced cleaning products with Meyer's brand and Seventh Generation brands. What brand soaps, shampoos, moisturizers, sunscreens, deodorant, etc. is everyone using? TIA!

Re: Removing Toxins

  • I just bought Acure shampoo and conditioner, but haven't tried it yet. It's gotten fantastic reviews though and is available at target and is less pricey than a lot of the other natural shampoos and conditioners. I'll let you know when I try it how I like it! I used Andalou Naturals already for face cleanser/moisturizer etc. and love it!

  • I use Hugo Naturals shampoo and conditioner, Burt's Bees (mens) body wash (there aren't really any "manly" soaps other than Burt's Bees, and I didn't want my hubby to use a flowery one, and I don't want to buy something special just for me) and Vanicream shave cream. I also use Burt's Bees sensitive face lotion (I tried 2 or 3 different ones before I found one that actually moisturized!). Oh sunscreen. It is really tricky to find a low chemical one that doesn't cost $30 a bottle (which should last for like 10 applications max). I used ThinkBaby last summer and really liked it, but I'm very white so it didn't show up on my skin much, which is a common complaint with most low chemical sunscreens.

I suggest downloading the EWG app. It'll let you scan barcodes while you're out shopping and see how chemical-y things are. I use it whenever I try something new.

Does this really help? I've been trying to be mindful of cleaners and personal care products for years, and if it helps conceive that would be great.

I I love love love Burts Bees products, especially the face wash and milk and honey lotion. Their lip crayons are great too. I buy the Dove soap that claims to be paragon free on the box but maybe I should do more research? I use Toms deodorant.

Last year ear I found an organic kids sunscreen at CVS that worked really well and wasn't super pricey.

I also use a lot of Trader Joes cleaners and shower products (tea tree oil shampoo and conditioner) but again, I'm not exactly sure how safe they truly are.

ETA does anyone have the EWG app? I think you can scan bar codes with it to figure out your best choices.
