Top of belly pain?

Hi ladies! I'm 1 day shy of 30 weeks and today I'm having pain at the top of my belly. Anyone else experiencing this? It hurts more when I'm standing or getting up to stand. Thinking maybe it's just the baby getting bigger and my belly expanding or maybe gas? It's not on one side vs another, just at the top. I can't remember much from my first pregnancy!

Re: Top of belly pain?

  • I had pretty bad pain at the top of my belly yesterday (I'm in my 30th week) and I'm pretty sure it was gas. My belly was pretty hard and I just felt bloated. I took some gas-x and felt way better today!

  • I have gotten the same type of pain with all my pregnancys. This time around I finally figured out how to ease it. The first thing I try is basically the cat cow yoga position, but lower you elbows to the ground. I only do this for a few minutes. The other thing I try is sitting on the edge of my chair and spread legs wide. It seems like baby just needs more room and these moves shift baby from your ribs to lower in your cervix. I feel relief in just a few minutes usually. Hope this helps.
  • YES!!! Right at the bottom of the ribs I think from my belly stretching everything it. Also extra pain on the right side, but that might be because of a foot or something. Not slouching and occasionally leaning back seems to help
  • Mine is just on the right side under the boob. Doc had me do blood work for pre-e. Getting results back in an hour. Fingers crossed everything comes back OK!
  • I had super sharp pain at the top of my belly this week. After talking with my midwife, she determined that it was acid reflux. An acid reducer pill keeps it under control now. I'm so glad there was a simple answer!
  • I get a really bad almost tearing like pain at the top of my belly usually in the mornings when I wake up especially if I'm laying on my right side or in any way "twisted" ... I think it's muscular.

  • Not sure if it's the same thing, but I've definitely noticed that my belly (particularly upper half) has been getting hard and sore for several hours in a row the past few days. I'm 31 weeks. It doesn't help that LO kicks much more when this is happening.
  • I totally have this. I have a spot right where my belly starts to pop out at the top that is numb! Totally numb but then I get this burning pain. It's driving me insane!

Yes! Me too! It's so strange and my doctor has no idea or any remedy. She thinks since baby's feet are up there she might be running up against something. Thankfully all my blood work came back fine so it's not pre-e. My sore spot is on the right side and if I lay on that side now it feels like my bump is ripping off.

Yes, I have this! And it feels like it's on the outside, but can't totally tell, might be hurting on the inside. But hurts pretty bad sometimes!
  • @Pascal86 and @gampster sounds like we all have the same thing. Mine is on the right as well and feels mostly on the outside. I'm going to ask my OB about it this week. I suspect it's nothing, likely just nerves stretching and getting damaged (which can cause numbness and burning sensations)
  • I had this problem about two weeks ago! My dr said its probably one of the two ligaments that holds the uterus to the abdominal wall. She said they are normally only about an inch long a piece and now they are 3-4+ inches. And I probably turned and irritated one while I was sleeping.
  • This is my second baby and I'm just 29 weeks. Yesterday my belly at the top with my ribs felt so tight and painfully. Miserable. I finally ended up in the bath. Then I did yoga stretches off YouTube. And finally I microwaved my heated pillow and set it on my ribs.  Everything loosed up and I was feeling better before bed.
  • My OB recommended hot towels at first but that didn't help so she suggested cold towels. I've been trying that (well with a cold bottle of schnapps that has a bass the same size as the sore patch) and that seems to help for a few mins at least. Going to a new doctor on Tuesday so if she has any other suggestions I will pass them on.
