Frustrating Signs of Labour!

I am almost 37 weeks pregnant, and these are the signs of labour I've been seeing:
-Baby dropped on Sunday, and I measured two weeks behind due to the drop
-baby is pushing on my sciatic nerves so much more than last week. My legs keep giving out and the pain is intense! I also keep getting a head pushing downwards on my cervix - I have to pee all the time!!
- cramps/backache since Sunday, and I'm 99% sure I had 2 legit contractions tonight
-BH nonstop during theday

Am I crazy to think I could go early, or should I be ignoring everything and chilling out? I had none of these early signs with my daughter. I hate that it could a days away, but also weeks (or a month!). I am wondering if anyone here is as frustrated as I am that labour signs can mean everything or absolutely nothing at all? Tips on how to stop thinking about it?

Re: Frustrating Signs of Labour!

  • This would go great on the labor watch thread! There's lots of other women having similar experiences. It is incredibly frustrating though! The second + time through, labor is less likely to be textbook and more likely to be sporadic/start for a couple hours and then stop for a few days.

  • Ignore and chill.  This is coming from a STM who lost her mucus plug twice, baby dropped and was dilated for 3 cm for almost three weeks.  I always figure go time is when you start feeling contractions regularly or your water breaks.

  • I feel like it's not legitimate enough to go on the labour watch thread, you know? I'm mostly just frustrated that there's no real way to know labour from the early signs. I mean, this could go on for a day or a month! Too bad it's not straight forward ;). I'm hoping some STM+ could weigh in!

That's what my brains says too. I just can't help overthinking!
  • I'm having a lot of the same symptoms (except definitely not measuring behind, ha). I don't get cervical checks, so not sure what's going on downstairs. The weather has been amazing here this week and so mostly I've just been feeling like running around after my almost 2 year old and keeping him from killing himself outside is going to jostle this baby out 3 weeks early. March is a 3 paycheck month for me, though, so I just want to keep working and keep him inside!
  • I'm 37 weeks as well. Losing chunks of mucus plug, 2cm dilated 75% effaced, lots of BH, and the last two nights I have had very painful false labor contractions.

Im convinced this all means I'll probably have a long road ahead of me and have to be induced at 42weeks. As long as baby is healthy I can be patient, but I admit the waiting game is a bit harder than I anticipated.

Good luck! I hope we make it to full term!
  • Sounds like you're getting ready, but not real labor. We can all walk around dilated and effaced for weeks before giving birth :) Don't overthink...really, we want our babies to cook as long as possible even though we're all so anxious!

  • Baby dropped 4 weeks ago and I've been having B&H for 5 weeks. I had a couple of real contractions, but no real labor yet. My doctor said I will probable deliver early. Can't wait to meet LO, but I know I have to be patient. So just relax

  • Hmm...hard to say, but I wouldn't read all that much into it just yet. I was 2cm dilated with a lowww baby for three weeks and I still had to be induced. And then there are people who aren't ever dilated when checked at the doctor but go into labor spontaneously. I agree that it is very frustrating!
