Re: Weekend Ticker Check - In 3/11-3/13

  • Week/Fruit: 34/butternut squash (eww)

Rants: So many coupons for buy buy baby but all in store! Even their completion coupon! Now I have to call and see if I can some how convert them into online coupons.

Raves: MIL is graciously getting us a maid service for some real deep cleaning. DH has been doing a good job keeping up with the basics. Thank you bedrest for making me feel so useless!

Symptoms: lots of baby movement = major lightning crotch, contractions, too many BMs, gassy, usual hip/leg/back pain.

Upcoming Appointments: NTS Monday Thursday and regular doc appointment on Thursday (the usual)

Questions For the Group: nothing right now

GTKY: What book do you feel like your baby absolutely has to have a copy of (if any)?
the set of the Little Golden Books my mom saved from when I was little. There are a few other classics but can't remember the names.
  • Loading the player...
  • Week/Fruit: 35/ coconut, I think

Rants/Raves/Symptoms:it feels like there is a bowling ball (or perhaps a coconut) sitting on my bowels. It's gross and makes me feel even less appealing.

Upcoming Appointments: I just had one yesterday. Back again in 2 weeks.

    Questions For the Group: nope.

GTKY: (Lately I've been stealing these from ticker changes earlier in the week because I have no motivation to think of different questions..)  What book do you feel like your baby absolutely has to have a copy of (if any)?
I feel like every kid needs a copy of Goodnight Moon... And my favorite off-shoot, Goodnight Opus.
  • Week/Fruit: 38/Pumpkin (tomorrow)

    Rants/Raves/Symptoms:
Friend just messaged me today to tell me that I absolutely have to inform her when the baby arrives so she can make sure to see me at the hospital. I told her we aren't having any visitors at the hospital and we will post a Facebook announcement when LO arrived. We also won't be planning for any visitors outside of immediate family for the first couple of weeks. This news was met by a temper tantrum about how unfair it is to keep everyone away from the baby when they've waited so long to meet him and that I'm being selfish for not sharing him with anyone. Me: Um I've been carrying him for nine fucking months, and I'm unwilling to expose him to outside germs. Also, I'm incredibly introverted and after labor I really don't think I can handle having people in my space when I'm adjusting to a major life change. You'll get over it.

Rave: Dunkin Donuts has a new burrito and it may be my new favorite thing... Except for Reese's peanut butter eggs. Which are also my favorite thing...

Symptoms: Well I've finally hopped on the hemorrhoid train, and yellow discharge is a new symptom for now. (Waiting to hear back from the nurse's line at the Dr's office about it. We'll see if they actually call me back this time)

Upcoming Appointments: Wednesday another U/S. I'm not excited since I've stated I don't want to do anymore of them, and they ignored my requests on the subject matter because "that's just how we do things."

Questions For the Group: Had anyone else been bombarded with that postpartum psychosis story on their social media sites? It's freaking me out a bit...

GTKY: What book do you feel like your baby absolutely has to have a copy of (if any)?
All the Dr Suess books. And Mo Willems. And The Hans Christian Anderson and Grimm's fairy tale collections. (Not the watered down American versions of them either, but the originals) And of course, Pat the Bunny, which I already have for him thanks to my parents, because that was my favorite book for YEARS! Now when he gets older I hope he enjoys Castle in the Attic and Battle for the Castle as much as I did. I still have my copies of both from when I was in elementary school :)

    Week/Fruit: 35/spaghetti squash

Rants/Raves/Symptoms: Rants: lots of pain - felt like baby dropped yesterday, straight onto my cervix. It's actually painful to get up and walk around now instead of just mildly uncomfortable. Also, my left shoulder and elbow are seriously jacked from sleeping on my side, and my left hand keeps going numb as a result. Continued insane swelling in legs and feet. And mild nausea has returned like in second tri where I'm not close to throwing up but I just don't want to eat most foods, especially meat, after about 5pm. Raves...nearing the final countdown? I can't think of much this week; I've been in a foul mood for most of it.

Upcoming Appointments: OB appt yesterday which was all good other than gaining more weight (which dr thinks is water retention). Starting weekly appts next week.

    Questions For the Group: nada

GTKY: What book do you feel like your baby absolutely has to have a copy of (if any)? Goodnight moon was always one of my favorites growing up - we've got a copy from our registry :)

  • Week/Fruit: 34/butternut squash

Rants/Raves/Symptoms: Don't really have any rants this week. Rave - my first baby shower is this weekend, and I'm super excited to see some of my girlfriends that I haven't seen in a long time! I'm not really excited to see some family members though. That sounds pretty awful, but they usually stress me out. Symptoms - I've been super tired this week. My feet are large, and I lost my ankles. Discharge. I've been wearing a thin pad so it won't soak through my underwear.

Upcoming Appointments: Regular check-up on the 21st.

Questions For the Group: Nothing that I can think of right now.

GTKY: (Lately I've been stealing these from ticker changes earlier in the week because I have no motivation to think of different questions..)  What book do you feel like your baby absolutely has to have a copy of (if any)? Children's Bible stories. I don't remember a lot of books growing up, but I remember reading stuff like Noah's Arc with my mom so I definitely want my little one to have a collection like that. My mom is a slight hoarder when it comes to my stuff so she probably still has the one I read growing up.
  • Week/Fruit: 34 / summer squash

Rants/Raves/Symptoms: Woot!! Constipation gone! Leg cramps gone! Swelling gone! I lost weight and I can wear my wedding ring again! OMG I can sleep well at nights it's so freakin heavenly!!!

Upcoming Appointments: Growth scan on Tuesday, I have weekly biophysical profiles / NST appointments that last about 1 and 1/2 hours each time. Bad side, I miss lots of work. Good side, I can flex my hours and I pretty much get an ultrasound pic every week. This kid already has a photo album of ultrasounds.

Questions For the Group: What breast pump are you getting?

GTKY: (Lately I've been stealing these from ticker changes earlier in the week because I have no motivation to think of different questions..)  What book do you feel like your baby absolutely has to have a copy of (if any)?
"Love You Forever," "The Giving Tree," "The Wonderful Things You Will Be."

  • @rebeloneI got Medela from my insurance. Seems to be one of the most common ones.
  • AEG84AEG84 member
@rebelone I went with the Hygeia Enjoye (one of 4 available through my insurance). It's a closed system, so could be sold or given to a friend when I'm done using it. They also offered the Medela PISA, which is their most popular choice, and two crappy systems.

  • Week/Fruit: 37 (winter melon) tomorrow

Symptoms: GI "distress", contractions and BH, sciatic nerve attacks

Rants: LO is head down but keeps barrel-rolling. Yesterday he had his back down the right side of my uterus (facing my left) and was punching/kicking the left side. It was pretty crazy - you could see little feet! I could push the left side of my stomach all the way flat.

Raves: it's most universities' spring break next week so my sister will be back from her grad school in DC! We all went to the same undergrad 2 hours from home, so it's really weird for her to be so far away. She's hoping baby comes sometime this week so she can meet him in person before summer. I honestly wouldn't be opposed to him coming late next week (almost 38 weeks) at this point.

Upcoming Appointments: every Tuesday now til the end. The typically don't do cervical checks until at least 38 weeks unless something comes up, so probably just a quick check in/Doppler.

    Questions For the Group: nope.

GTKY: What book do you feel like your baby absolutely has to have a copy of (if any)? Our bedtime book is The Going to Bed Book (Boynton) and it's about ready to be replaced, otherwise we have a ton that will be shared.
Each kiddo also has their own baby book and I made a "first year" shutterfly book for DD with the story of her pregnancy/birth and then a spread of pictures and milestones/favorite things for each month that I have re-designed for DS.

I HATE visitors in the hospital.  I don't see why people feel the need to visit someone there.  I refuse to visit any of my sisters because I'd rather them stay away when I have a baby. I've even told people to not visit and they show up anyway.  I don't think I'm going to tell anyone baby is here until I'm home.
  • See, I like visitors in the hospital after I've given birth but I can see why people would want to keep their babies away from that for the first month or two. I come from a big family so it's normal in our setting to come visit the mom at the hospital and bring them to the next party so everyone can meet the baby. Since we have a big family we'll have a birthday party once or twice a month celebrating 2-4 birthdays at once so always about 20-30 people in one house. That's how we grew up. And since I'm one of the only ones in the family that has a big enough house I've been hosting these parties.

Week/ Baby Size: 34/ quokka (look this thing up - cute!)

Symptoms: Is falling asleep on the couch nightly a symptom? :) minor feet swelling

Rants/ Raves: Talking with my boss Tuesday about leave plans. This is probably both a rave and a rant - I'll let you know for sure next week :-p Going to organize the piles of baby stuff today. Happy day off to me :/

Upcoming Appointments: Next Friday and then the weekly appointments begin.

    Questions For the Group: none

GTKY: What book do you feel like your baby absolutely has to have a copy of (if any)? Lots of must-haves, including Guess How Much I Love You.

@rebelone right? Way cuter than butternut squash! Ovia app for the win. It looks all smiley and I'm jealous of all marsupials - I wanna birth a tiny baby and then finish growing it in a pouch - sounds way more doable than this way :)

  • Week/Fruit: 33/Durian (sunday)

Rants/Raves/Symptoms: Pretty sure baby is transverse. Her movements are hitting every side nerve possible. Sciatica is still horrendous, as is the RLP, and about once an hour or two, I have a very intense contraction. I hope that doesn't happen every hour for the next 6 weeks.  Still no name.  We just can't agree on anything. I can't even picture her with any one name.

Upcoming Appointments: The 24th. I'm going to ask the dr to check her position and growth.

GTKY: What book do you feel like your baby absolutely has to have a copy of (if any)?  Any book, really.  I guess, if I really think about it, Brown Bear is one book that I always replace once it's beyond repair.

  • Week/Fruit:  35/ squash (on Sunday)

Rants/Raves/Symptoms:  Rants: HELLO Hobbit feet! Somehow I thought I'd escape the swollen feet since my sister did but alas no. Raves: Getting some kick-@ss quality sleep lately!  Been falling asleep easily after getting up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night, thank goodness.  Symptoms: this am I had a little freak out (TMI!) because I felt some wetness down there when I got out of bed but I'm pretty sure it's VD. Stay in there, baby!

Upcoming Appointments:  Just had one on Tuesday, all good. I got in 2 weeks then weekly after that.  Just regular check-ins and doppler.

Questions For the Group: Nothing.  @rebelone I got the Medela PISA from my insurance.

GTKY:  What book do you feel like your baby absolutely has to have a copy of (if any)?
My husband has his childhood copy of A Light In The Attic and I have my childhood copy of Where The Sidewalk Ends, so those will be nice to revisit. I was a HUGE reader as a child so for me, pretty much any and all books are an absolute. We'll be going to the library a lot and baby got quite a book stash already from baby showers, even though we didn't specifically do a book thing. Hooray!

I am so HAPPY to hear that your leg cramps are gone. You were having such a hard time with those! Yay for sleeping at night!
  • Yeah I'll probably end up with a Medela PISA through my insurance too. None of the Spectras are covered and I think the Ameda Purely Yours is garbage, that's what I had last time. And I have no idea what the heck a TOMY is.

Yeah, the Ameda was one of the other options through my insurance. Reviews are terrible. The fourth was one I'd never heard of but 5 mins of googling was enough to pass on that.

I had really hoped that I could get an Ardo Calypso pump - those have fantastic reviews by some baby pages that I follow - but Cigna won't pay anything unless it's one of the 4 they offer.

    Week/Fruit: 33 weeks! Durian

Rants/Raves/Symptoms: period-like cramping, heartburn, even more waddling! Still waiting for the magnesium supplements to stop the charlie horses in the middle of the night.
AK118 falling asleep on the couch nightly then moving to the bed around 3am is my new thing.
On the upside, I've been having cookies and snacks daily. Yummy food has become my happiness! Also loving the attention from strangers. There's something about babies, esp. the 1st baby, that seems to make people happy and smile.

    Upcoming Appointments: 34th week appt

GTKY: What book do you feel like your baby absolutely has to have a copy of (if any)?
Dr.Seuss's most famous books (got em as a shower gift)
    Shel Silverstein
Rohl Dahl's books, esp. the BFG and Matilda
Folk tales from my home country

Week/Fruit: 36 weeks tomorrow. I don't  even care about the fruit comparisons anymore. All I know is he's the size of a baby. LOL.

Rants/Raves/Symptoms: insane swelling in hands, leg cramps have come back, and  BH have also appeared. Increased thirst, night sweats, swollen feet and ankles...

My rant (actually more of a concern) is that I'm back on bedrest due to red flags for preeclampsia.

Upcoming Appointments: Monday for NST and a bunch of other stuff.

    Questions For the Group: None

GTKY: (Lately I've been stealing these from ticker changes earlier in the week because I have no motivation to think of different questions..)  What book do you feel like your baby absolutely has to have a copy of (if any)?

My LO has to have his first bible. It's tradition in my family that this is the first book every child receives.

  • Week/Fruit: 34/Butternut squash

Symptoms: SPD pain/pelvic floor dysfunction, erratic sleep

Rants/Raves: I started PT last week for my SPD pain and its helping a bit. I learned that my pelvic floor muscle contractions literally push in the wrong direction. I think it's related to my episiotomy from DS because I've had some problems ever since. I'm hoping to avoid another this time around.

Upcoming Appointments: Thursday for 34/35w regular visit.

    Questions: N/A

GYKY: We've got a nice library of childhood favorite staples already - Love You Forever, Put Me in the Zoo, The Giving Tree, Guess How Much I Love You?.. and so many more. We LOVE to read.

    i love you forever
    velveteen rabbit
  • Week/Fruit: Saturday was 35 weeks/coconut

Rants/Raves/Symptoms: I've gone from little jabs and spurts of discomfort and pain to just general uncomfortableness all the time... DH's new nickname for me is Lightning Crotch McQueen, and contractions are coming about every hour right now. I must rave about my GD diagnosis (which I have been complaining about being a total crock of $#it) my Dr basically laughed when she saw my numbers and told me to just test a couple of times a week to make sure nothing spiked out of the ordinary! Stupid bogus GD... but yay for not having to prick my fingers 4 times a day every day anymore!

Upcoming Appointments: Had two last week - Dr said as long as I make it to 36 weeks, she is A-OK with baby coming at any time... ummmm, I'm not! Next appointment in 2 weeks then we go weekly.. yikes!

    Questions For the Group: None

GTKY: What book do you feel like your baby absolutely has to have a copy of (if any)? Guess how much I Love you was the one must have for us... so precious and we used it in our maternity photos too!
