Scratching

i cut DS nails about once a week or I'll cut them as needed but no matter how often I do he still scratches himself. He has cuts all over his forehead and nose because when he gets tired he rubs his face constantly. I'm not talking just red marks I mean bleeding and scabs type cuts. I put on mittens so he can't but then he sucks them so much they get soaked and his hands get raw from being moist all the time. Any advice?

Re: Scratching

  • File after cutting? We have the same issue.

  • Agreed, I cut then file.
  • I cut and file, yet she still scratches herself. Hands are just too fun nowadays!
  • We're having the same problem! No matter how much I look for answers no one seems to have any advice beside cutting and filing, which I do. I hate keeping her hands in mittens because she's just starting to grab but there really isn't much else I can do. i will say that I've starting trimming and filing every night. Hopefully she'll grow out of it soon.
  • LO has started scratching me when he doesn't want to go to sleep. My chest is awful.
  • I have scratches all over my left boob from baby scratching the crap out of it.
  • @lyankowiLO has started scratching me when he doesn't want to go to sleep. My chest is awful. But I'd rather he scratch me than his face. He's only drawn blood once on his face
  • Anna is the same. She scratches herself at least once a day. She does it while trying to fall asleep . I try to cut her nails every other day and file. But she's got wolverine nails , they just seem to pop out

  • I file everyday
  • I have the same thing with my baby too. We file them, but he still does it, so mittens or socks go on his hands and he soaks them because he sucks on them. But also without the mittens or socks on his hands he also gags himself on his fingers a million times a day lol. we think he might be at the early stages of trying to get a tooth though as well, so maybe that's why too.

    Me: 35, healthy

    DH: 35, male IF

Married 6 years on Feb  27th 2016. TTC since we got married.

Were going to go the adoption route, but decided to try IVF with donor embryos once or twice.

After 5 years of waiting, hoping, researching, doctors, etc we tried the procedure.

    DS was born on 11-24-15!!

  • Mine does the same.  He has huge hands so the mittens don't fit him.  We just started putting socks on his hands and that works well.  We do not let him sleep with them on though for fear of one lodging in his mouth.  I was able to find sleepers with cuffs at Old Navy in 6-9 month size (yes I have a giant baby who is already growing our of 9 month clothes) that he sleeps in.  I hate keeping his hands in socks all the time though since he is starting to grab so sometimes I just put coconut oil on his head and it's so slippery he can't grip enough to get a scratch. :)

I never thought about coconut oil, I will have to try that.
