That's what I've done with last 3 test including today. I've never had GD so I'm not worried about it with this one. My test was at 1:15 so I had a late breakfast and then started fasting afterwards. Just don't eat a lot of carbs or sugary foods. Good luck!
Yeah, I had asked about this too. I was told to fast with my first two, but now my doc's office does the test in house and he said no need to fast because it's supposed to just be "at a point in time" test.
But I just barely failed the one hour last time and passed the 3 hour no problem, so I'd like to just eat what is best to avoid having that close failure and dealing with the 3 hour again.
I did mine today and was actually told I could eat breakfast, just have something low in sugar before hand (I chose plain scrambled eggs about 1:45 before my test). Recommendations between doctors do seem to vary greatly, I'd say just do what they said and hope for the best (and good luck)!
My OB said not to bother with fasting. I was late waking up, and my test was in the morning, so I ended up just having a cheese stick before the 1-hour test. My results were fine.
With my first I had to fast for the 1 hour and failed by one stinking point. Then passed the 3 hour no problem. With my second my new doc said no fasting and she thinks that's why I failed the first time. I passed non fasting with flying colors. No fasting again this time since I'm seeing the same doc
This is a post prandial (post meal) test, and is considered the least reliable of all methods. (Glucola drink, jellybeans and fruit juice are other measurable options I've heard.) Generally you fast overnight (6-8 hours), wake up to a lovely big meal and get your blood drawn an hour later, at least by our lab standards in Ct, but it could differ elsewhere.
If you generally eat healthy and have no family history of diabetes, I say don't worry about it and enjoy breakfast! Your OB knows best. I'm taking the org. grape juice option just because I love sugar and my MW can dose it better than a meal.
I just got my drink today at my appointment for my 1 hour test next appointment in 4 weeks. My doctor said to eat breakfast, but nothing too sugary. She said cereal or toast is fine.
I am going for this one. Basically it was explained to me as a screen test for the 3 hour one. It has low set point for failing and if I do then I will go for the 3 hour.
Didn't think there was any parameters around eating so I'm going to re read the requisition
For my one hour, they don't recommend fasting. You drink the super sweet solution in office, sit in the waiting room for an hour, then have your blood drawn.
I can't eat or drink anything other than water after midnight the night before. Luckily, my test is at 8am tomorrow morning, I shouldn't be too affected.
Mine, next Monday, is a 2 hour test. I've always done the 1 hour before, so this is new. But I have to fast 7-8 hours before. Only minimal water after midnight and my test is at 8:15am. I'll be starving by 8:30, but have to wait till 10:45 before I can eat (they say it actually takes 2.5 hours) ugh, not looking forward to this.
My midwife not only doesnt have you fast, but you also just choose a drink off her a list and drink it at home 1 hour before your appointment. I was debating between apple juice and ginger ale and decided in the moment. No results back yet.
I'm sitting here too and have been fasting since midnight. The nurse declared that she is not giving me the drink because I am 26 weeks and not 28. Now I'm waiting to see ob and nurse said if ob approves, she'll give it to me. I just want to yell at the nurse to either give the drink or some food before I go nutso! I wish this place would get it together!
I was told no need to fast, that its just a snapshot in time, that being said I probably won't have my typical instant oatmeal & OJ for breakfast (my appt is at 9am) I'll probably have eggs just so that I'm eating protein & not extra sugar.
I just took my one hour--the directions were not to fast, but also not to eat too many sugary foods before. I had eggs for breakfast. I went in, drank the glucola (the nurse thought I was weird for bringing a straw, but it helped me to minimize the taste and the sugar on my teeth...) and waited an hour, then they drew my blood.
My doctor must already think I have it, because he talked to me a LOT about my weight/diet/diabetes during the appt (for the record, I have gained 22lbs total, 8 in the last 6 weeks) and I am measuring 5 weeks ahead by fundal height. So he is sending me to my high-risk doctor early for my next ultrasound. So I made it through the test, but we'll see if there's an issue.

I'm currently sitting in the waiting room with 46 minutes to go before my blood draw. Mine is the 1hr non-fasting test. Frosted Cheerios probably weren't the smartest decision this morning but they sounded so good!
heading to mine now! They've changed it a lot since my last one 6.5 years ago- non fasting one hour and I drink the glucola, go up for my appt, then back to lab for blood draw. I like that they do it all together!

That's really weird. I was only 24+4 when I did mine yesterday and they said as long as you're between 24 and 28 weeks it's all good. Glad the OB gave them a talking to!
I found out today I'll have mine in 3 weeks at 28/6. No fasting. I had to fast 2 years ago with my last one, so this one is different. My mom still doesn't get why the do them, they didn't do them 30 years ago

No its not new. For the screen you don't have to fast. But if you don't pass the screen and you have to take the 3-hour one then you will have to fast for that
I just had mine yesterday at 25 weeks. No fasting, I just ate eggs for breakfast. Kaiser hasn't called so I assume that means I passed. (Dr. Said they would call if I didn't, usually same day).
I don't have to fast for mine, either...I just can't eat a ton before it. I'll probably eat 2 hours before the test just so I don't starve during the hour wait.

The 3 hour is a fasting test.
