Bumbleride Flyer vs. Indie

I'm on the bumbleride website, and I've noticed a lot of you have chosen the Flyer over the Indie. Why do you perfer the Flyer? Can't decide.

Re: Bumbleride Flyer vs. Indie

  • I chose the flyer for the reversible handle feature. It's been great and I love it!
  • Loading the player...
  • We also decided on the flyer b/c of the reversible handle. (and several other features) We tried out both models in a local baby store, and the flyer is easier to maneuver, weighs less and is slightly more compact. I say go with the flyer hands-down.
  • Hmm. . .I guess I will have to try them out to know. The reason I'm kind of leaning towards the Indie is because of the one front wheel that swivels 360-degrees. I will end up pushing through a lot of snow and rough terrain (we're hikers) and it seems more off-roady.

The flyer wheels go 360 also. You can set them to either go straight or swivel 360. But yeah definitely go try them out in the store - that's the only way you'll really be able to decide which is right for you!

  • Guess its down to the store, then. The closest one is an hour and half away, but I really want it!

  • We also picked the flyer b/c of the reversible handle and i found it easier to fold.  We figured we would get a good jogging stroller when our baby is 6 months anyways - they don't recommend jogging with a baby til then anyways,

  • the flyer has small tires, right?  I'm a big fan of large tires. They will go over anything.  I'd get the Indie any day vs. any small-tire stroller.
  • Yeah, the front tire on the Indie is big, and I am not a fan of manoevering strollers with small tires. I also am not in a position to afford to get another good stroller six months down the road. The stroller we get is the stroller we're using until its trashed,.

  • We have the '06 model of the Flyer, so they may have changed a bit...but I love mine for the most part.  I also choose it for the handle feature (we opted not to use an infant carrier and went straight for the convertible carseat) so this feature made it nice when DS was small.

One gripe I do have, and must warn you all, is that because the piviot point is off center when the handle is reversed, it can make it tricky to go over bumpier pavement or terrain.  You know the "push the handle down and put the front wheels in the air" maneuver?  Not really easy to do when it is in this position.  I learned this when I was walking with my son when he was 3 months and some of the sidewalks are crappy in my town.  Also, it is'nt the smoothest ride over semi-bumpy terrain.

But...the other reason we wanted it--the adjustable handle bar for tall people--is great.  Easy to maneuver in normal conditions...not terribly heavy.

  • We plan to get the Indie so that we won't have to get a separate jogging stroller.

The Buy Buy Baby near us only has the Flyer in store, and our BRU has neither in store.  Where did you all find them both in the same store???

  • I actually haven't seen them in any store, I'm just still looking online, you could page one of the above posters who says they tested them both.
