When did you start adding rice cereal to your lo's bottle? My LO will be three months soon and has s protein intolerance so he is in similac alumentim. It is super broken down and he eats every two hours.
It's not recommended to add cereal to a bottle and I certainly wouldn't do so without a doctor's recommendation. DS has multiple protein intolerance and the doctor had us start giving him rice cereal when he was four month, not in his bottles but we mixed his formula into it and spoon fed him to get more calories in.
ETA if he's eating every two hours he needs to eat every two hours. I don't know how severe your little one is but with protein intolerance there is intestinal damage and malnutrition that happens before it's caught. They tend to compensate until it heals and that can take months.
Adding it to a bottle is an old school method which is not recommended, however I know several people that added cereal to bottles or just fed them at 3/4months. I however will not start until 6months likely unless doc says different. My LO has reflux and spits up a lot so people are pushing us to try cereal in the bottle but I'm just not sold on long term effects.
My pediatrician had us add cereal to my sons bottle at 10 weeks because he has reflux and spits up a ton. He is on Zantac and nutramigen formula. Talk to you pedi about it before you start.
DD is on Zantac as well and my doctor had recommended starting rice cereal at age 4 months - 6 months. I will be starting her on rice cereal at 4 months just because it helps with reflux.
DD is 15 weeks and we had her try some rice cereal with a spoon the other day. She's so interested in food I though, why not?! She seemed to really like it but still has the tongue thrust reflex so it was hard for her to keep it in her mouth. We only gave her a few spoonfuls. We'll try again next month.
We never gave DS rice cereal, and no food at all until 6 months. Plan to do the same this time with DD. Neither had any intolerance or health issues though...
We were out on similac spit up for a couple of days by our pediatrician. It has rice cereal in it, so it is a little thicker. Again, this was at the recommendation of our pediatrician. We have since gone back to a different type of formula, but you need to discuss this with your pediatrician.
Unless recommended for some other use, my dr said its not necessary until 6 months, but for sure not until baby can hold his own head up. Something about throat collapse?
